COULD EARN MiLLIONS THANKS TO SPANISH TEAMS ELIMINATION
Real Madrid got a last gasp draw against Shakhtar in Poland and managed to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. Up to now, they are the only one of the four La Liga teams who managed to progress to the next round.
Without going any further, Real Madrid could get more money if the other three Spanish teams get knocked out early. Barcelona and Sevilla are in major trouble in their groups while are also fighting to make the last 16.
If the three clubs get knocked out of the group stage, Real Madrid could earn up to 11.7 million euros thanks to the market pool, a measure which UEFA distributes among the Champions League clubs and which is measured thanks to the performances of clubs which represent a particular country.
According to 'AS', all Spanish clubs are guaranteed an income of 3.9 million euros regardless of whether they make the last 16 or not. However, Real Madrid could benefit if Atletico, Barcelona and Sevilla do not make the last 16.
If they finally get eliminated, Real Madrid will get another 4.7 million euros as none of the Spanish clubs will be able to get the money from the market pool and all that difference will end up going to Real Madrid's coffers.
