Rebel SKM leader Binod Basnett rejoins SKM shortly after joining opposition SDF in February

Rebel Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) Party leader Binod Basnett has rejoined SKM shortly after joining the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) in February this year.

Basnett was Chairman of Skill Development Department, GoS, prior to his resignation from SKM.

He had joined SDF on February 15, 2024, at Makha during SDF's joining event.

However, just over a month of him joining SDF he has switched his loyalty to SKM again during party's "Vijayee Bhawa Mass Joining Event" being held at Dentam, West Sikkim on Wednesday.

Former Secretary in Sikkim Government Tshewang Gyasto Bhutia has joined the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Party on Wednesday during SKM's "Vijayee Bhawa Mass Joining Event" being held at Dentam, West Sikkim.

Bhutia was the Secretary in Rural Development Department prior to his decision to join SKM.

JAC condemns Melli attack.

The Joint Action Council condems the heinous and brutal attack on former speaker and celebrated politician Shri KN Rai and his team at Melli today.

The visuals of the attack on the senior citizen is disturbing and saddening.

JAC advocates violence free politics and requests the Government and Sikkim Police to act swiftly and harshly against the culprits.

Sikkim with its history of peace and dharma doesn't deserve to see such bloodbath for petty politics. It is a wake up call to political parties to look within and realign their politics in true Sikkimese spirit of non violence and brotherhood.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday launched a World Bank-assisted programme aimed at providing economic growth opportunities for women and youth.

The Integrated Service Provision and Innovation for Revising Economics (INSPIRES), conceived by the Planning and Development Department, was unveiled by Tamang here.

"Sikkim INSPIRES represents a collaborative and comprehensive approach as we march ahead on this journey, which is imperative for all of us. Let us join hands and realise the vision of a prosperous Sikkim," he said.

Sikkim CM thanks PM, FM for release of ₹283.10 crore to state. He said the funds will help in the economic development of the Himalayan state.

The Himalayan state suffered a massive natural disaster in October this year as a flash flood in the Teesta river ravaged road infrastructure and communication network in addition to washing away a hydropower project dam at Chungthang in North Sikkim.
Sikkim depends heavily on the central government for funds for development and capital expenditure with its own sources of revenue generation remaining scarce.
