Hon'ble MP Shri Indra Hang S***a Welcomes the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024

Today, Shri Indra Hang S***a, Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) representing Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, participated in the discussion on the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha. Expressing his strong support, Shri S***a welcomed the bill, which aims to strengthen disaster management frameworks.

Shri S***a further emphasises the bill’s significance, particularly for vulnerable regions like Sikkim, which face frequent natural disasters such as landslides and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs). He stressed the urgent need for enhanced preventive measures to mitigate the risks posed by GLOFs, which endanger lives and livelihoods in the region.

Further highlighting the importance of local governance, Shri S***a has called for a framework to facilitate involvement of MLAs and panchayats in disaster mitigation planning and decision-making processes. He understand that their on-ground knowledge and community-based insights are essential for developing effective and sustainable disaster management strategies.

Commending the government’s efforts, Shri S***a has expressed optimism that the amendments in the bill will strengthen the disaster management system and benefit vulnerable regions like Sikkim. He reiterated his commitment to working collectively to build a safer and more resilient future for all citizens.
