I watched an interview with the Chairman, Sahad Stores, Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa and it was really revealing and eye opening. He amongst other things had these to say about his businesses:

He has never taken a bank loan.

He doesn’t rent locations for his businesses, all the locations where his businesses are situated are owned by him.

He was forced to abandon closing his shops during every prayer time.

He pays all his staff a daily token and offers free meal to them everyday throughout Ramadan fasting.

He pays yearly bonus to all his staff.

He answers all phone calls and said whoever has his phone number should feel free to give it to whoever asks.

He’s got an open door policy, he’s always accessible to whoever wants to meet with him.

He’s got 3 branches in Kano, 1 in Dutse, 2 in Abuja, Kaduna and Nassarawa States ready for opening, Bauchi under construction.

He’s built a hospital in Abuja as big as Murtala Mohammed Hospital in Kano, it will soon be opened.

He’s married to 4 wives and have 19 children.

He doesn’t carry out adverts on his businesses, claiming people’s patronage is already overwhelming him.

He relies on turnover, not high prices.

He is constantly increasing salaries of his staff.

He closes his businesses for some days once every year to take stock of profits and pay the required Islamic Zakat (alms tax).

6. No election cases after swearing into office of the winner.

There are 134 million active bank accounts in Nigeria. When narrowed to BVN ownership,the account holders turned out to be 52.1 million according to data from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System. This should have informed the CBN that out of 200 million Nigerians, only 52.1 million have bank accounts and a large percentage of that belongs to corporate bodies not individuals.

There are also 1.1 million POS in Nigeria,about 93% of it are concentrated in urban areas.

When you have roughly 148 million people without bank account you have a glimpse into the kind of chaos CBN wants to plunge the economy.

It didn't come as a surprise therefore that the national assembly has waded into the matter by asking CBN to suspend the exercise. To go cashless, CBN must improve on rural banking. It is not the fault of rural dweller that he does not have a bank account because there are no bank in his immediate environment.

It is not the fault of rural dwellers that even in villages where there are banks and POS, that there are no network in the location. It is not the fault of rural people that most villages are without electricity and we all know POS work with electricity recharge.

I have no sympathy for CBN because in the first place it is the one that plunged us into economic crisis. High inflation and poor exchange rate and dwindling foreign reserve are symptoms of mismanagement and bad economic policies.

We can't save the naira without a large foreign account saving, and we can't have economic health with multiple exchange regimes,a creation of corruption in the CBN management. Dollars are allocated to the wrong people while BDCs are deliberately killed. What we have in the absence of BDCs are government officials family and friends and party men that have access to official Dollar becoming the defacto BDCs in the country without either control or regulations. You can't have a stable exchange rate with people selling Dollars at their own bidding.

Bandits have killed 15 villagers in three local government areas in Kaduna state.
Eleven residents were killed at Giwa Local Government while two were killed each in Kajuru and Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
