Borno: Buhari’s CoS Gambari opens 804 houses built by UNDP, Zulum’s Govt

… House-owners gifted 2,674 cattle, 100k each, food, clothes

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, on Saturday in Mafa town of Borno State, commissioned a combined number of 804 houses for the resettlement of displaced members of the Ngarannam community and neighboring villages.

Although the project is for 804 houses, a total of 564 were completed.

The 804 houses were houses by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Borno State Government.

Borno State Government is building 304 houses from which 204 were completed with 100 ongoing, while the UNDP has 500 units of houses funded through a Regional Stabilization Facility (RSF) from which 360 were completed while 140 were ongoing.

The UNDP’s housing estate, designed with a health centre, police post, school and market, was for the resettlement of Ngarannam community, while Borno’s houses are for resettlement of a number of villages neighboring Ngarannam.

From both projects, a total of 564 houses were completed out of the combined 804 targeted by Borno Government and the UNDP.

The UNDP had, in July 2019, developed a Regional Stabilization Facility (RSF) with support from Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom (UK), the Netherlands and the European Union (EU).

The RSF was created to facilitate the implementation of a Regional Strategy for the Stabilization, Recovery & Resilience of areas affected by Boko Haram attacks around the Lake Chad Basin made up of communities in Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, and Chad. The RSF contributes towards the restoration of security and relief to communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

Ngarannam community in Mafa was attacked and destroyed by Boko Haram some years back, forcing community members to become displaced.

Zulum orders vocational skills at 3,226 Almajiri schools

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has ordered the integration of vocational skills in over 2,775 Sangaya centres widely known in the northern part of Nigeria as Almajiri schools and 451 Islamiyya Schools across the State.

Zulum gave the order on Tuesday at the Government House when he received an update on the validation and registration of Sangaya Schools in Borno State presented by the Governing Council of Arabic and Sangaya Education Board.

The Governor noted that with the introduction of vocational education, numeracy and literacy skills, Borno State Government intend to streamline the informal and formal education system to qualify Sangaya schools products to get admitted into colleges and universities.

Zulum also observed that the integration of vocational education will help to reduce the number of the out of school children and Almajiri’s roaming the streets in all parts of the State.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Arabic and Sangaya Education Board, Khalifa Ahmad Abulfatahi presented the findings of the validation and registration of Sangaya schools conducted across the 27 local government areas of the state with exception of Kala-Balge, Guzamala and Abadam.

He said the board has registered 2,775 Sanjaya centres with 12,309 teachers and 224,068 pupils. Of the 224,068 pupils, 128,789 are day learners while 97,279 are boarding learners.

He added that the board also identified 451 Islamiyya schools operating across the state.

24 primary school teachers allocated houses at quarters Zulum built

… Famous Igbo teacher among beneficiaries

Twenty-four school teachers have been allocated flats at a newly commissioned quarters built by Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration in Maiduguri.

The quarters was commissioned by President Buhari some weeks ago when he visited Maiduguri for the 2022 World Humanitarian Day.

The teachers quarters at Bulumkutu along airport road is one of over 600 capital projects delivered by Zulum.

Borno State Government allocated the fully furnished 24 units of the houses to Primary School Teachers from Maiduguri and Jere Local Education Authority (LEA) during a brief ceremony on Wednesday at the quarters.

Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, Borno State Commissioner for Education, while handing over the houses to beneficiaries, disclosed that Borno government has constructed similar edifices in Banki Town of Bama Local Government area and Mafa.

He also said Zulum's administration will extend such projects to other Local Government Areas in order to provide accommodation for hardworking teachers in the LGAs.

The commissioner further added that beneficiaries were selected based on merit from different Schools within the vicinity of the quarters. He charged teachers to take good care of the facility as it is an institutional property.

Meanwhile, The Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Engr. Yuguda Saleh Vungas, whose ministry constructed the quarters, while handing over the keys to the Honourable Commissioner for Education Engr., Lawan Abba Wakilbe, for onward allocation to teachers disclosed that the houses consisted of 12 units each of fully furnished two bedrooms, a parlour, kitchen and two self contained toilets, while 12 are fully furnished one bedroom, a parlour, kitchen and toilet.

NECO 2022: Borno candidates access results, as Zulum releases N337M for 21,827 public schools’ students
..pays outstanding 40 millions for 2018

National Examination Council (NECO) has released Borno Candidate's results as, Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Friday approved the release of over three hundred million naira to offset fees owed for 21,827 students of public secondary schools who wrote this year’s (2022) examination across the state.

The State’s Commissioner for Education, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, disclosed this on Friday at the Musa Usman Secrateriate, during a presentation of cheque to officials of NECO.

The Commissioner, said that the money, totalling three hundred and thirty seven million, ninety two thousand, four hundred and eighty five Naira, (N337,092,485) was already in NECO's account.

After presenting the symbolic cheque to Mr. Aliyu Uthman Jajere, Borno State Coordinator, of NECO, Wakilbe announced that the results are already released, therefore candidates have already started accessing it.

"Government is paying N337,092,485 out of which N297,064,810 is for the settlement of state and Local Governments share, which is a subsidy of 75% of the 2022 NECO Examination fees for 21, 827 students studying in public schools across Borno State."

Meanwhile, the Commissioner further disclosed that, the state government have paid another sum of Forty million, twenty seven thousand, six hundred and seventy-five naira (N40,027,675) to settle outstanding NECO fees for the year 2018.

The Commissioner, in view of the relative peace enjoyed in the state now and the resettlement drive of governor Zulum, has also appealed to the National Examination Council to extend the 2023 examination centres to six more Local Government Areas in the state.

GOV ZULUM SWEARS IN CHAIRMAN AND COMMISSIONERS OF CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

— Say Promotion benefits of all Civil Servants to be paid in January 2023

Inline with his Administration's policy objectives of strengthening the civil service in the state, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State Professor Babagana Umara Zulum mni FNSE yesterday the 5th of October 2022 Swore in the Chairman and Commissioners of the Civil Service Commission.

The event took place at the Council chambers of the government House Maiduguri

The board has Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio mni as Chairman. While, Barrister Yakubu Bukar, Justice Zaire, Engr. Zarami Dungus and Alhaji Abba Fugu as Commissioners respectively.

While Barrister Yakubu Bukar and Justice Zaire takes the appointment for the second and final term, Engr. Zarami Dungus and Alhaji Abba Fugu are coming for the first term.

In his address, the Governor said their appointment was based on merit and inline with the administration policy objectives of recovering reforming the service for optimal performance.

He urged them to carry out their assignment without any fear or favor as his administration will support them at all times. He equally gave them directives to sensitize the civil service data and come up with a comprehensive nominal role.

The Governor also announced that the recovery project of the state and the 25-year development framework and 10 years strategic plan, the state Government will soon commence the digitization of the service data.

The Governor further said, all Civil Servants promotion benefits will be paid by January 2023 while arrears will be paid subsequently in a sustainable manner.

In his vote of thanks on behalf of the appointees, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio mni thanked the Governor for having confidence in them and assured him of discharging their duties with absolute loyalty and dedication.

Aisha Buhari heads Tinubu/Shettima Women Campaign Team

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has been named head of the Tinubu/Shettima Women Presidential Campaign team of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

She is expected to lead a team of about 1,200-member women's campaign wing of the party for the 2023 elections.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the party's flag bearer and Hajiya Nana Shettima, the wife of the APC presidential running mate are to serve as chairperson and co-chairperson of the women’s campaign team respectively.

These appointments were contained in a statement on Saturday in Abuja by Rinsola Abiola, daughter of late Chief MKO Abiola, who is also named in the media and administrative committees of the campaign team.

Hon. Asabe Vilita Bashir, a former member of the House of Representatives from Borno who serves as national coordinator will be assisted by Lauretta Onochie, a senior aide in the Presidency as deputy national coordinator.

The women’s campaign in the North-West Zone will be coordinated by Dr Zainab Baugudu, wife of the Kebbi Governor while a Falmata Zulum, the First Lady of Borno State, will be in charge of the Northeast.

Olufolake Abdulrazaq, wife of Kwara Governor will coordinate efforts in the North-Central and Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-olu, wife of the Lagos Governor, will superintend over the South-West.

Imo First Lady Chioma Ikeaka-Uzodinma will also coordinate the South-East while Linda Ayade, wife of the Cross River Governor, will spearhead the women’s campaign in the South-South.

The statement also indicated that wives of Governors in APC-controlled states will serve as state coordinators in APC sttates, while notable APC women in non-APC-controlled States will take charge.

Florence Ajimobi, widow of the former governor of Oyo State and Zainab Ibrahim, the APC Deputy National Women Leader, among others, were chosen to coordinate activities in States not controlled by the APC.

National Honours: Buhari approves CON for Zulum

The President, President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the conferment of CON (Commander of the Order of the Niger) as national honours on Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume, announced this in a letter he conveyed to the governor.

“I have the honour to formally inform you that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammad Buhari, GCFR,
has approved the conferment of the National Honours on you, in the rank of CON (Commander of the Order of the Niger)”, Akume wrote.

The minister, in the letter dated September 19, 2022, with reference number Ref: FMSDIGA/NHA/001k/T/90 said the honours investiture will hold in the morning of Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.

National Honours are the highest honours Presidents of most countries confer on citizens who make exceptional contributions in service to their country.

On Tuesday, August 28, 2021, President Mohammed Bazoum of the Republic of Niger decorated Governor Zulum with his country’s Second-Order National Honour, “de Grand Officer Dans I`Ordre”, which is the equivalent of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, in Nigeria’s ranking of national honours.

Zulum has more than 20 awards majority of them from highest ranking newspapers in Nigeria and from high level professional bodies and academic institutions including from the University of Ibadan, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, amongst others.
