This Saturday, community groups in Peachland and Kelowna are hosting a FREE online and in-person event with some great speakers about the future of BC's forests and watersheds. Sign up to tune in online (link below) or if you're in the Okanagan, come on out and attend in person. It should be a great discussion. I'll be there doing some filming.

Arguments have wrapped for the Nuchatlaht Nation's title case, but they are still fundraising for legal costs. They are just $750 away from their original funding goal. Please donate what you can and help them cover the cost of taking the BC government to court to get their land back (which they never should have had to do).

has continuously inhabited the northern half of Nootka Island, on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, since time before memory. For millennia, Nuchatlaht people have harvested wood and bark from ancient cedar rainforests, eaten sea-foods from their shorelines, and taken good care of the natural...

I'm thrilled to share my Water Logged film on Seeker. They've got over 8 million followers on Facebook and 5 million subscribers on YouTube (link in comments), so this is going to get this story out to a massive audience, way outside the typical BC enviro bubble.

HUGE thanks to all the GoFundMe funders who made this possible. I should have another short forestry doc out later this year from the same trip I took through the BC Interior. Stay tuned.

The landmark Nuchatlaht title case is well underway in BC Supreme Court. Recently, Friends of Nuchatlaht organized a town hall and art build in Vancouver at Roundhouse Community Centre. We heard from leaders of the nation, Tyee Jordan Michael and house speaker Archie Little, Judy Wilson from the Union of BC Indian Chiefs, as well as Jack Woodward, the lawyer representing the Nuchatlaht in their title case. And Nuchatlaht allies also took part in an art build to create signs and banners for the nation. Here's a recap of the event!

On Monday, March 21st, Nuchatlaht First Nation is taking the B.C. government to court to reclaim their territory on the northern part of Nootka Island, which their people have inhabited for thousands of years. This is going to be the first Indigenous title case in BC since the landmark Tsilhqot'in decision and the passage of BC's UNDRIP law. But the BC government is still arguing in court that the Nuchatlaht "abandoned" their territory. As their attorney Jack Woodward says, "They didn't abandon their territory. It was stolen from them."

Check out the video we made for Nuchatlaht to help tell their story. Donate to their legal fund if you are able. And please show up to the Vancouver Law Courts at Nelson and Hornby on Monday, March 21st to show your support for the nation. There will be a rally starting at 8:30am on the steps of the courthouse. Hope to see you there!

In case you missed it, here is the replay of my film screening of Water Logged and live discussion with Jennifer Houghton and Herb Hammond. It was a great conversation. Check it out! (Forgive the occasional dropouts of Herb's connection, he always comes back within a few seconds.)

The Jackson Wild Forest Film Showcase is now live. I'm excited to check out the other films! I didn't end up winning the award but, as they say, it's an honour just to be nominated. Here is the direct link to my short film, Water Logged. I will post the link to all the other films in the comments below.

This film follows the residents of Grand Forks in the aftermath of several devastating spring floods, and connects the dots between climate change, clearcut logging and flooding.

The town of Grand Forks, BC has suffered catastrophic flooding 3 of the past 4 years. As a result, Grand Forks resident Jennifer Houghton, along with over 100 of her neighbours, is being forced from her home.
