Its baseball season, as we opened our spring training (winter clinic) for youth baseball last night (02.24) at Metro West in Ashland -- Lot of great talent coming up thru the pipeline.

Metro West has provided ample space to get lots of baseball in for each player - don't miss out.

!PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT!: The Town of Hopedale Water Department discovered a sizeable water main leak/break just west off of the bridge on Mill Street before Laurelwood. The Hopedale Fire Dept. will need to lower the level of the water in the Pond to conduct a repair. The Town will be issuing a reverse 911 to notify residents in the area. Please be advised that area water service will be impacted and could be off for most of the day tomorrow, 2/7/24, to conduct the repair.

Just after 1am, Ladder 1, Tanker 2 and Car 1 responded to the town of Mendon for a house fire. Mendon Fire Department arrived to a fully-involved attached garage. No injuries were reported. The fire was under control in about an hour. Strong work by all involved. Milford Fire Department, Upton Fire & EMS, Northbridge Fire Department, Millville Fire Rescue, Bellingham Firefighters Local 2071, Uxbridge Fire Department, Douglas Fire Dept, Sutton Fire.

Last post of the day; from prior posts, you may be aware that the Town Administrator spent the day with the Hopedale Police Chief and our public safety officials helping to coordinate storm response.

I'm not a great photographer, but I snapped this from the windshield of the cruiser and found it particularly moving. As school was letting out early due to the storm, Chief Giovanella and I came upon a street where a school bus could not pass due to a downed wire, and was not able to finish dropping the kids off at their homes.

At that point, Chief Giovanella got out of the car, and personally walked these students to their respective homes, making sure to ask them about their day and make them feel at ease.

While I know with the great group we have these types of things happen regularly, and that these men and women don't ask for publicity, but it's important to recognize this - and perhaps share, particularly the week of Christmas. Stay safe everyone as we continue to work through the remnants of the storm. Hopedale Police Department
