Ahead of his participation in the panel discussion on Data Journalism at the ongoing Global Media Congress in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo spoke to the media, including Kenya's , on various themes including the impact of Artificial Intelligence on media operations, the future of the media and opportunities for collaborations.

Mr Omwoyo also met the Director General of the Emirates News Agency His Excellency Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi on the sidelines of the meeting where they discussed, among others, professionalising the media and potential collaborations.

Kenya to the World: The Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo today visited the Standard Group PLC stand at the second edition of the Global Media Congress that kicked off today in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Mr David Omwoyo also visited the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) stand where he experienced the workings of a fake news detector on the sidelines of the Global Media Congress.

Promoting Professionalism: The remains committed to supporting journalists in their endeavours to create platforms for enhanced professionalism and sustainability. The CEO David Omwoyo today graced the official launch of the Siaya Press Club in Siaya County where he implored members to uphold ethical values in journalism. The Council will also support the establishment of a digital information centre where journalists will file their stories in a conducive environment.

Siaya County Governor commended the Siaya scribes for launching the Press Club, terming it “a major milestone”, while appreciating the role journalists play in shaping public opinion. He assured media workers of enhanced access to information on county matters.

New Dawn for Media Regulation and Content Moderation in East Africa
The East Africa Press Councils (EAPC) was formally launched at the East African Community headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania this morning.

The EAPC has been established following the successful working relations established among media regulators in the region, bringing together regulators and media development agencies from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia.

The association will, among others, promote and protect free, independent, professional and accountable media in East Africa, media pluralism and diversity and strengthen and promote independent media regulatory bodies in East Africa.

It will also create awareness and promote self-regulation as well as create a platform for media regulatory bodies to share experiences and exchange information on emerging issues in media regulation.

In line with the implementation of the national tree planting initiative presidential directive of planting 15bn trees by 2032, the Media Council of Kenya in partnership with Konza Technopolis Development Authority have commenced the greening project where more than 250 trees were planted.

The greening initiative was a culmination of a two-day training for the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops-Catholic Media Managers on Climate Change Adoption where David Omwoyo called upon media houses to allocate more space for climate change reporting calling for action on environmental conservation.
