Great job!

From Police Chief Bill McGrath:

SRO DOESN’T CHOKE UNDER PRESSURE! HE SPRINGS INTO ACTION AND SAVES KPHS STUDENT FROM CHOKING INSTEAD.

On Thursday, School Resource Officer Todd Schwalbe was having a typical day, floating back and forth from the elementary schools to KP High when, all of a sudden, the day wasn’t so typical anymore!

Officer Schwalbe was alerted that a KP student who had been enjoying his lunch was choking!

SRO Schwalbe went to the rescue, performing the Heimlich maneuver on the young man, effectively dislodging a piece of Salisbury steak from his blocked airway.

Officer Schwalbe called WFD Rescue to the scene to evaluate the student who ended up doing just fine.

And then? Well, SRO Todd reverted back to his typical self on a typical day, ready and waiting in case things get not so typical again!

Great job SRO! Even Cruiser had to congratulate you!

Happy to share that we have secured a $231,125 grant for transportation infrastructure needs, part of the state’s $100 million distribution. Teaming up with the recent $407,819.02 Chapter 90 appropriation, this spells great news for Norfolk’s roads and bridges in FY 2024. This funding, greenlit through the FY 2024 state budget, is a huge boost for our community. The distribution formula considers road mileage and the traditional Chapter 90 criteria. Norfolk’s getting $129,170 based on road mileage and $101,955 through Chapter 90.

From National Grid:
It’s normal for outage numbers and Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) to fluctuate. Work volume, the cause of the outage, and the extent of the damage can all affect our time estimates.

During a storm event with widespread damage, we will often use global ETRs until estimates for individual communities can be refined. We are currently updating and refining ETRs for all impacted areas and will continue to do so throughout the day Tuesday.

Rest assured our crews continue to work around the clock as quickly and safely as possible.

Crews will stay on as long as needed but be advised that this is a storm and conditions continue to change. Please help us to help you by staying off the roads if possible and give crews and police room to work.
