Taking inspiration from the Hildegardean tradition of visionary courage and fearless advocacy for truth, SSC established the Hildegarde Awards for Women in Media and Communication in 2007 to celebrate women’s achievements in the mass media and allied fields. The awards ceremonies coincide with international Women’s Month. Today, it is the only awards of its kind in the Philippines that consistentl

y recognizes women’s achievements in media and communication. The awards were envisioned as a way through which women’s ways of doing media can be documented over time so that these best practices cans erve as models and duplicated by future media practitioners. Without exception, all of the Hildegarde awardees of the past years were trailblazers, women and men who, like Hildegarde, manifested a fearless proclivity for breaking barriers despite the challenges. The awards are given in two broad categories: the Hildegarde Award for Lifetime Achievement in Media and Communication, and the Hildegarde Award for Outsatnding Achievements in the fields of Advertising, Development Communication, Print/Online Journalism, and Broadcast Media.
