Once again, the call to service and leadership struck through my eyes. โ๐๐๐๐ ๐กโ๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ค๐๐๐กโ ๐๐ก?โ I wondered. Little did I know that four days and three nights of camp would transform us into better Lasallian leaders and more refined versions of ourselves. As we unpacked our baggage at Balay Kalinungan, it became our home for the next few days. Excitement buzzed in the air, and we were ready to embrace the journey ahead. This was more than just a camp; it was a journey of self-discovery and leadership development.
The โZeal for Service: Lasallian Leadership Questโ program is designed to empower junior high school students to discover and develop their leadership potential within the context of Lasallian values, focusing on service. We were immersed in experiential learning activities facilitated by the Youth Empowering Youth (YEY) Initiative, headed by Sir Ted Villanueva, the Executive Director. It also included uplifting educational talks, sharing sessions, and project proposal-making with invited guest speakers who are experts in their fields.
With only fourteen participantsโten from the USLS-BEU and four from SJSLSโthe camp was able to create a close-knit environment. Within just the first two days, we had already connected and become one Lasallian community. From sharing meals, washing dishes together, visiting different organizations in Bacolod City, solving tricky riddles, to sleeping in our dorms, we grew together and became family.
Because of this profound connection, we delved deeper into self-discovery through learning from each otherโs experiences and ideas. Personally, I saw life and leadership in a new light. Leading is not simply about being in the spotlight; it is about casting that spotlight for others to express, grow, and shine.
Utilizing the knowledge and training we had gained from the previous days, it came down to what we had all been preparing forโthe Project Proposal Elevator Pitch. After about six hours of planning and provisions that lasted all night, the ZFS participants were able to successfully come up with and present twelve proposals. The following afternoon, during the closing program, we were awarded to recognize our efforts in the project pitch, including awards such as best presenter, most unique, most feasible, and most promising proposals, to name a few.
The main highlight of the camp, however, was the โsocials night.โ We celebrated with fun games and performances. Finally, after numerous strenuous activities and workshops, we were ready to go home and rest. Then, it โ๐๐ก me: the real value of this camp did not solely revolve around the seminars or discussions, but the bonds we formed and the memories we created together. It was in these moments of laughter and camaraderie that we truly experienced the spirit of teamwork and ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ โ๐๐.
Thank you for this unforgettable journey, ZFS! With faith, service, and communion, we will continue to serve our communities as Lasallian servant leaders. Though the path may be challenging, together we will make this world a better place, one step at a time.
