Yellow Team dominates NSTP Day 2025

With an accumulated score of 543 points from the different sports and games, the Yellow Team (MadinaDALAG-on) ruled the playing field during the "National Service Training Program Day 2025: Games and Wellness" on Feb. 8.

Winning in all but two events, the Yellow Team was followed by the Red Team (Mahigugmaon) with 369.5 points, Blue Team (Mahidaeton) with 365 points, and Green Team (AnimoBerde) with 327.5.

The half-day event commenced at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum, with sports analyst Ayel Estrañero as the inspirational speaker.

In accordance with the Commission on Higher Education Memorandum No. 3 s.2012, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Administration organized a Tuition and Other School Fees Increase Consultation Meeting for the Higher Education Unit (HEU) at the University Coliseum on Feb. 6.

During the one phase dialogue for the Academic Year (A.Y.) 2025-2026, USLS Vice Chancellor for Finance, Ms. Charo Mae Cordova, presented tuition fee adjustments, revealing a proposed increase of up to 5%.

Cordova explained that the projected hike is a response to recent inflation in the Philippines, adding that it is necessary for the continued development of university facilities.

The said consultation was attended by student representatives from various programs and year levels, as well as parents and guardians, with an aim to inform them of any proposed changes to school-related fees.

Last year, USLS implemented a 6% tuition increase for A.Y. 2024–2025.

With 153 lawmakers signing the impeachment complaint, the House of Representatives (HoR) has secured more than enough signatures to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte according to HoR Secretary-General Reginald Velasco on Feb. 5.

Set to be finalized in the plenary, Duterte faces raps over the misuse of public funds, culpable violation of the constitution, and betrayal of public trust.

Only 101 signatures are needed to advance an impeachment proceeding to the Senate which will serve as a quasi-judicial body deciding whether to acquit or convict the vice president.

Addendum: The impeachment complaint against Duterte was formalized with a total of 215 signatures, making her the first vice president in Philippine history to be impeached.

Featuring products such as feeds, fishes, and varieties of plants, the USLS Green Ranchers Club with the Agribusiness Department organized the "12th Agribusiness Trade Fair" at the Gate 1 Parking Lot from Feb. 4-6.

"Our goal here is to gather local businesses, especially our entrepreneurs, where they can showcase their local products in our school," Green Ranchers Club President Kyla Marie Gabasa highlighted.

With the 9th Artians’ Month officially kicking off, the College of Arts and Sciences' (CAS) showcased its commitment to blending analytical and artistic disciplines in a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence.

Starting the day was a solemn Opening Mass at the Montelibano Chapel, followed by the blessing of the new CAS Faculty Room 2 marked by the passing of office keys and the establishment of house rules, and the launching of the Artians’ Month at the CAS Office Lobby to set the stage for a month of creativity and exploration.

Additionally, the Dean of CAS, Dr. Rowela Chiu, encouraged everyone to join the activities prepared by the students and the council, be part of the synergy, and celebrate the boundless potential of the college.

Ignited by their passion for the arts, the Santermo Writers Guild and the IWAG Imagemakers Collective of the USLS-The Artists' Hub launched the "Box Shaped Hearts" photo and poetry exhibit at the Negros Museum's Puppet Theater on Feb. 1.

Serving as a kickoff event for the month-long Berde Fest, the exhibit will run for the whole month of February, following a theme that explores the perspective of love in all shapes and sizes.

Aiming to empower Lasallian publications, The Spectrum held its first-ever Lasallian Publications Journalism Seminar, attended by campus journalists from different college and departments at the Cody Conference Rooms A and B, Feb. 1.

Among the parallel talks were "Becoming a Campus Journalist" by former moderator Michael Baylosis, "The Art of Storytelling" by former Editor-in-Chief Lance Christian Juarez, and "The Foundations of Layout and Creative Media" by former Creative Director Mikey Vincent Vicente.

From the influence of art and media to the impact of long-form journalism, Lance Christian M. Juarez, former Editor-in-Chief of The Spectrum, emphasized the power of narrative journalism during his parallel talk, "The Art of Storytelling."

Exploring the intricacies of compelling entertainment narratives, the discussion tackled the craft of writing, as well as the effective strategies for overcoming writer’s block.

Outlining how one can capture the power of visual storytelling as an effective channel for campus journalism, former Creative Director of The Spectrum Mikey Vincent T. Vicente shared his expertise in a talk on the technicalities in the production of published works.

His parallel session entitled “Foundations of Layout and Creative Media” also dissected the necessities and elements of the creative process behind engaging outputs.

The discussion thoroughly elaborated the essential priorities that a campus journalist must always remember while navigating the paths of a challenging society.

In order to cultivate learning about world rankings and research metrics, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Center for Research and Engagement Publication Office launched departmental journals on the USLS' website under &flourish at Mutien Marie Audi A on Jan. 30.

Sharing his insights on the whats and hows of publications, Guest Speaker Prof. Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III tackled the publications' types, reviews, and meta-analyses.

To mold responsible Lasallian online users, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Discipline and Formation Office, in collaboration with the Gender and Development Center and the Center for Alumni Relations, conducted an orientation titled "Respect, Protect, Empower: Advocate for Safe Spaces and Cyber Responsibility" as part of the Discipline and Formation Program.

The session, led by Atty. Rhodora P. Lo, focused on promoting awareness on sexual harassment and discussed the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, as well as the Bawal Bastos Law or Safe Spaces Act at the USLS Coliseum, Jan. 30.
