"Glorious Sebastian, martyr, and saint, I call on your strength and courage to help me through this difficult trial.”

Through St. Sebastian's courage in preaching the Gospel, we are inspired to remain steadfast in faith, guided by the spirit of fortitude with wisdom and hope.

On the feast day of our patron saint of Bacolod, let us pray for strength in body, mind, and soul as we spread Christianity in our community.

Agricultural roots wither under the weight of corporate greed as wealthy companies tear apart the lands, leaving dwellers to fall victim to land-grabbing disguised as industrial expansion.

With billion-peso deals stripping the vulnerable people of their birthright, bear witness to how their livelihoods are turned into collateral damage.

Step foot into the plains of Candoni, where the fight for land is a fight for survival itself, and till the narratives of the farmers standing against oppression on their long-cultured lands.

Unrelenting surges in societal norms crash against the shores of self-becoming.

Amid the marginalization of q***r identity in an eternal war, the powerful anthem of Sirena by Gloc-9 sparked a movement that gave a voice to the LGBTQIA+ community’s struggles and inner turmoil born from unacceptance.

In response to urgent calls on the lived realities of young women, the Senate approved Senate Bill No. 2897, expanding the Safe Spaces Act to cover gender-based online sexual harassment, including issues related to Artificial Intellectual and deepfakes, Jan. 15.

Under this law, internet companies are mandated to remove harmful content within 24 hours of receiving notice and to preserve relevant data for six months for ongoing cases.

The new amendment includes a new definition of grooming as predatory conduct aimed at children, whether in person or through electronic devices, ensuring stricter scrutiny of adults working with minors.

Furthermore, it aims to expand the definition of public spaces to include streets and alleys in rural areas, fields, farms, coastal areas, and multi-purpose halls, with violators facing imprisonment for one to six months or fines ranging from P10,000 to P100,000.

Humans are not the only ones who tread this realm. Spirits, too, dwell among us, lurking just beyond our periphery. Most linger quietly, but some rise to wreak havoc.

Demonic possession doesn’t always manifest in frightening screams and contorted limbs often depicted in mainstream media. Oftentimes, it is the consequence of much deeper forces frequently overlooked.

Together with the Chief Exorcist of the Diocese of Bacolod Rev. Fr. Brethen Gamala, cast out the misconceptions about exorcism that penetrated the minds of many here: https://tinyurl.com/HUBRISVolume69Number2

Where divine facades crumble and oppressors shudder, we come forth.

Amidst the neck-and-neck showdown, the Colegio San Agustin - Bacolod (CSA-B) Eagles clipped the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Stingers in Game 3, 63-61, clinching the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association Mens Basketball Championship, at the USLS Coliseum this evening.

The first two points of the match were from free throws due to the game being halted within seconds into the first quarter with both parties called out for multiple violations, prefacing the heat that will be imminent during the succeeding quarters, including a player being carried out by a stretcher.

Scores were tight in all four quarters, yet CSA-B Eagle’s consecutive baskets at the final half of the fourth quarter sealed their victory.

As the blaring trumpet of angels trembled across the heavens, the sinner’s fingers danced across the piano keys, rising to a fevered crescendo.

While these sacred hymns may have entranced us, it was the resounding pulse of the drums that stirred our spirits inciting us to rise and challenge the fictitious gods.

Conceived from the depths by The Spectrum, the β€œHUBRIS” Spotify Playlist calls you to transform the anguished cries of the past into a symphony of rebellion as you pen your own story.

Stand fearless for these songs of defiance summon you: https://tinyurl.com/HUBRISSpotifyPlaylist

While we ascend from limbo, our bodies are bathed at last in the embrace of the sun, its warmth a gentle awakening after countless generations in the dark.

The wind whispers through the rustling leaves, we feel the delicate pulse of lifeβ€”so complex, yet so breathtakingly beautiful in its simplicity.

You are no longer merely a witness to the world, you are the one who shapes it.

An expanse so infinite, yet the path ahead is veiled in mist. Countless souls drift here; even then, solitude wraps around you like a second skin.

Time feels suspended… or is it? Throughout two diurnal rotations, take the reins and guide yourself through the labyrinth of the unknown.

We are all in limbo, adrift in the ebb and flow of the human condition. What burdens us is not the face of struggle but our indifference to itβ€”our failure to confront what lurks beneath.

Deadly wildfire wreaked havoc in Los Angeles, California, killing at least 10 people and evacuating almost 180,000 residents, meanwhile destroying over 10,000 buildings since it broke out last Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Although it is not yet confirmed what caused the fires, rapidly changing weather conditions and unusually strong winds attributed to climate change continue to pose challenges to containing the flames.

"Are you a leader by choice or a leader by chance?"

Guest speaker Leslie Abello raised during the Lasallian Formation Session themed "Zeal for Service: Beyond Being a Student Leader", at the Miguel Lobby on Jan. 10.

Organized by the Office for Student Affairs (OSA), the program aimed to reintegrate the Lasallian values in the leadership of the university's student government, councils, and organizations.

Furthermore, the OSA also announced the updated guidelines for student activities, including criteria for club accreditation and new policy on activity hours.

The flames that seared us to damnation no longer scorch, but now forge our broiling strength to melt the chains that bound us.

What once were cries of agony are now the battle cries of the awakened, braced to topple the faux deities who dared to reign.

With three days remaining, the scalding embers beneath our bare feet will soon give way to the earth’s cool embrace. Steel your hearts to turn the hell they built for us into the fire that will bring their empire to ruin.
