Lagos Police Foil Fake Kidnapping Plot, Arrest Four

The Lagos State Police Command has foiled a staged kidnapping and arrested four people involved in the scheme.

The command's Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

The statement partly read, "Detectives of the Lagos States Police Command have arrested Margret Itodo ‘f’ aged 25, Agnes Ogbeh ‘f’ aged 23, Esther Anyanwu ‘f’ aged 24 and Anthony Chinakwe ‘m’ aged 24 for faking the kidnap of Agnes Ogbeh.

"On March 19, 2024, Agnes Ogbeh, resident in Akure, had travelled to Lagos and was reportedly kidnapped in Lagos.

"The family back in Akure received a video showing Agnes and one other tied, gagged, and groaning with blood droplets around them.

"The ‘kidnappers’ demanded N5m for the release of Agnes.

Don't Leave Boxing, Anthony Joshua Advises Ngannou After A Devastating Knockout

Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua has destroyed his Cameroonian opponent, Francis Ngannou to victory in a heavyweight bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Joshua knocked out Francis Ngannou with a devastating second-round finish to shatter any prospect of a sensational upset and continue his march towards becoming a three-time world champion on Friday.

After the fight, a video of Joshua telling Ngannou that he is an inspiration, and advising him not to leave boxing was shared on X (Formerly Twitter).

Joshua said, "You are an inspiration, Don't leave boxing again." Ngannou replied, "No I will not." Joshua continued, "Don't leave boxing do it, don't leave boxing."

Joshua took the mic and delivered another heartfelt word in the ring.

Troops intercept 27 sacks of illicit drugs in Badagry

Troops of the Nigerian Army in conjunction with a team from the Nigerian Customs Service have uncovered 27 sacks containing suspected drugs in the Badagry area of Lagos state.

The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Olalekan Olabisi Ayeni and shared on their official X handle on Tuesday, March 5.

It reads: "Nigerian Army (NA) Troops in conjunction with a team from the Nigerian Customs Service operating in the 81 Division NA Area of Responsibility demonstrated exceptional vigilance on Saturday, 2nd March 2024, by intercepting two boats carrying items suspected to be drugs. Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops conducted a stealth operation at Ajido in Badagry, Lagos state and successfully uncovered 27 sacks containing the suspected drugs. Regrettably, the suspects managed to evade arrest by jumping into the river upon sighting the troops.

"In a separate operation, the troops intercepted smugglers carrying 77 sacks of Petroleum Motor Spirit at Fabre area in Badagry. The 77 sacks of Petroleum Motor Spirit have been handed over to the Nigerian Customs Service, Seme, while the sacks containing suspected drugs have been handed over to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Seme Command.

"The General Officer Commanding 81 Division Maj Gen MT Usman on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff has commended the troops for their professionalism. He further appealed to all law-abiding citizens in Lagos and Ogun States to continue to support the troops and other security agencies with credible information to combat any criminal activities that may threaten the peace enjoyed in Lagos and Ogun States."

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has lost his father, Phillip Enyeama.

He made this known in a tribute in a video of himself and his late father playing Table Tennis via his Instagram account on Saturday, February 24.

FG Not Sure of Crime To Charge Emefiele With -Akpabio

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Sunday said the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu did not know the crime to charge a former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele with.

According to Akpabio, Tinubu's administration met the Nigerian economy in a mess which he claimed was caused by policies carried out by Emefiele.

Akpabio made this known in a video shared on Channels Television's X while speaking during a thanksgiving service by Senator Barinada Mpigi in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday.

He said, “So, the kind of debt and economic mess that we are in, a lot of people will not understand but I remember President Obama saying that you cannot know Washington until you get to Washington.

“So, by the time we went in to look at the economic situation of the country, it was terrible. You know that the former governor of the Central Bank. We did not even know what to charge him with. Whether to charge him for putting foam on top of the bill or to charge him for illegal possession of firearm or to charge him for printing notes without income. I don’t know what we are going to charge him with.

“But what we can is that yes there is hunger today because of the policies and actions that they took, and we recognise that, and I think every political party should recognise that there is hunger, and we are battling to ensure that Nigerians sleep with their eyes closed.

“Yes, there is insecurity, we are battling to ensure that Nigerians can take three square meals a day. But be rest assured that we campaigned for this job, we campaigned around the country, we will not let you down, we will get to the bottom of it, all we need is your patience.

“Those rots that have happened in Nigeria for so many years for almost 60 years cannot be solved in six months."

Emefiele is currently being prosecuted for alleged criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony.

PHOTOS: Nigeria Ready To Host African Central Bank -Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria is ready to host the African Central Bank in line with the vision of the Abuja treaty.

According to Tinubu, this is aimed to prepare the Nigerian youths for 21st century economy.

This was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, and shared on his page on Saturday.

Addressing leaders at the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Saturday, Tinubu stated that his administration would engage the African Union Commission in collaboration with member states to ensure that the bank takes off as scheduled in 2028.

On education, which is the theme of this year's summit, Tinubu noted that education is the core ingredient in the process of evolving creative solutions to the unique challenges long confronting the continent.

According to the statement, Tinubu said that his administration is devoting ample resources to education at all levels.

The statement read, "As a continent and as individual nations, we face strong headwinds and difficult hurdles threatening to complicate our mission to bring qualitative democratic governance and economic development to our people. Many of these obstacles, such as climate change and unfair patterns of global trade, are largely not of our making.

"The drive for a peaceful, strong, and united West Africa is bigger than any one person or group of people. The bonds of history, culture, commerce, geography, and brotherhood hold deep meaning for our people.

"Thus, out of the dust and fog of misunderstanding and acrimony, we must seize the chance to create a new people-centric era of trust and accord.

"To all who care to listen, I declare that if you come to the table to discuss important matters in good faith, you will find Nigeria and ECOWAS already sitting there waiting to greet you as the brother that you are."

Abducted Baby Sold For N800,000 Rescued In Lagos Market

A baby, allegedly sold by a maid for N800,000, has been found in a market in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.

An X user, , in a now deleted tweets, had on Saturday raised an alarm that a maid hired through an agency absconded with the baby.

The maid identified as Ruth Okezie from Anambra State, reportedly absconded with the baby from the home in Shomolu around 2am on Saturday.

After the report went viral on social media, the maid was said to have been found in Ikorodu, without the baby, where she confessed to selling the baby for N800,000.

In a post on his X handle on Monday morning, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the baby was rescued by the police after she was abandoned in Alade Market in the Shomolu area of the state.

He wrote, "Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

"The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.

"Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run."

He wrote, "Good news Twitter fam! The baby has been found. Munachimso has been found!

"She has been reunited with her parents in perfect health! Glory to God forever! Thank you so much Twitter fam for coming through with your retweets! God bless y'all!"

Man Set To Marry Three Women Same Day In Benue

A Nigerian identified as Tersugh Aondona is set to marry three women on the same day in Benue State.

According to the invite, the wedding will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, (today) at Lante Kukwagh Comprehensive Secondary School, Jato-Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of the state.

The invite also revealed the names of the wives to be Blessing, Nancy and Sulumshima.

The celebration is to start by 6pm till dawn.

One Harry Nyam, who first announced the wedding on Facebook, wrote, "31st January is finally here. All roads lead to Jato Aka today for our man, Tersugh Aondona AKA Aterry-baba.

Yul Edochie narrates how he was called into ministry

Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has held his first online service after the announcement of his new online ministry, True Salvation Ministry.

The actor announced the launch of his online Ministry, True Salvation Ministry last week, adding that he would be delivering sermons via YouTube.

During the online service on Sunday, January 28, Yul shared how he was called and when he felt God's direct guidance, citing the car accident he had on Ore road as the turning point which led him to fully embrace God's calling.

Yul said he heard compelling voice urging him to dedicate his life to serving God and humanity, adding that the revelation marked the beginning of his "second life."

Yul said in part: "As far back as 2012, 2013, I'll meet a couple of men of God, pastors and they will always tell me that you are destined to be a minister of God, you can't run away from it, you are going to be a minister.

"As time went by I started to hear the voice myself like anywhere I am, most of the time when I'm in an enclosed place, just me, I'll be hearing that voice telling me you are going to work for God."

Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, on Monday, unveiled 500 units of two-bedroom semi-detached houses for people displaced by the terror group, Boko Haram, in Logumani, Ngala Local Government Area of the state.

Social media celebrity, Tunde Olaoluwa Adekunle, popularly known as Tunde Ednut, has reacted to a birthday message from Peter Obi.

Ednut took to his Instagram account on Monday to correct the former Anambra State governor saying, “I am an entertainer and not a blogger."

Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, sent his congratulatory message in a series of tweets shared on his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, describing Ednut as an entertainment blogger and global internet influencer.

Tunde Ednut turned 38 on Saturday, January 20.

PHOTOS: Lagos Police Parade 34 Suspected Cultists, Others

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 34 suspects for various crimes including armed robbery, stealing, cultism and unlawful possession of fi****ms.

According to a statement posted on the official X handle of the commmand on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, disclosed this at a press briefing held at the command's headquarters on Tuesday.

Fayoade said that the suspects were arrested in different parts of the state between November 22, 2023, and January 13, 2024.

He added that items recovered from the suspects include 16 fi****ms, 72 live cartridges, 75 live ammunition, one expended cartridge, one pistol magazine, six axes, four daggers, one digger, five cutlasses, two vehicles, one POS Machine, fake registration plates, and charms.

Included in the report was the arrest of a group of suspected cultists who were apprehended on December 17, 2023 based on credible intelligence on the plan to retaliate their leader’s death on other rival cult members in the Ayobo area of the state.

The arrested persons include Quadri Mukail, Adedoyin Azeez, Olayinka Ayodele, Orefunwa Olamide, Olabode Idowu and Anuoluwapo Ojo.

Also, on January 13, 2024, two men, Ifeanyi Nwodo, 39, and Dainel Johnson, 32, were arrested for trying to set up their occultic shrine named ‘Indian Occultic Temple’ around Agunfoye area of Ikorodu with the intention of defrauding victims with the belief that the oracle has powers of making them rich and successful.

Several items including moulded human head, qmd crafted human effigies were found in their shrine.

In September 2023, the command paraded a fake Commissioner of Police for impersonation and unlawful possession of police warrant cards and police camouflage cap, among 12 others for various offences.

Human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana, waa on Thursday, seen alongside some members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ota Branch, protesting against the brutality and harassment of lawyers while carrying out their professional duties.

They were seen wielding placards with different inscriptions such as "Ota Bar Says: Police brutality of lawyers is a criminal offence," and "Police brutality and harassment of lawyers carrying out their professional duties is an offence."

PUNCH Online reports that a Lagos-based lawyer, Olumide Sonupe, was hospitalised after he was said to have been detained by the police while seeking the bail of his client at the Moshalashi Police Station in the Alimosho area of the state on December 30, 2023.

The state Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has since ordered the removal of the Divisional Police Officer, Gowon Estate Division, Austin Arase, following the conclusion of investigations into the allegations made against the DPO.

'He is a nice man and a man of God'- Oshodi-Oke reacts to BBC report

Nollywood actress, Ronke Ojo, also known as Oshodi-Oke, has dismissed recent allegations against the late founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, TB Joshua.

On Monday, the BBC released a documentary featuring purported eyewitness testimonies of r**e, fraudulent miracles, torture, and forced abortions allegedly attributed to the deceased prophet.

Ronke Ojo shared a video on her Instagram account on Friday, January 12, to recount her encounter with the late clergyman.

She said: “I want to tell the world what the late Senior Prophet TB Joshua did for me and my daughter. Initially, I don’t believe in prophecy, I am not that kind of person because there are so many scammers out there.

"But when I went to church that fateful day, my daughter had Asthma, to God be the glory, he delivered her.

"Something came out of her mouth which I didn’t believe, and my junior sister experienced something similar. That was when I started going to TB Joshua’s church.

"Apart from that, he was a nice man to me and my family. I just want people to know that for me, he is a nice man and a man of God."

Infinix Gifts Latest Phone To Lady Criticised For Waking Up At 4.50am To Cook For Husband

Infinix Nigeria has offered its latest device, Infinix Hot 40, to the Nigerian lady who was criticised on X for saying that she wakes up at 4.50am daily to cook for her husband.

The smartphone company disclosed this in a tweet shared on its X handle on Saturday, with the caption, "Hi, we love that you use one of our phones currently.

Responding to the tweet, she wrote, "Dear Hope it's for me and my husband?"

The Nigerian woman identified only as recently went viral after she revealed on X how she began waking up at 4.50 am to cook for her husband.

She revealed that the reason for her waking up that early was because her husband told her how he had been eating the food of his female colleague at work.

Nigerians have also donated money and different items to her.

PHOTOS: Soldiers kill 10 bandits, rescue nine kidnapped victims

The troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Hadarin, on Wednesday, killed 10 terrorists and rescued nine kidnap victims, including women and babies during clearance operations in Katsina and Zamfara states.

According to a statement posted on the official X handle of the Nigerian Army on Thursday, this was recorded in the dry season clearance operations commanded by the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Mutkut.

The statement partly read, "On the 3rd January 2024, the combined troops of the OPHD conducted an offensive operation in identified terrorist enclaves at Batsari and Safana LGAs of Katsina state, neutralizing 10 of the terrorists while others fled with gunshot wounds.

"The troops also recovered one AK-47 Rifle, ammunition, seven dane guns, three locally fabricated guns, and other dangerous weapons as well as communication gadgets, mobile phones and military uniforms while four motorcycles recovered and destroyed insitu."

The statement added that in a separate operation on the same day in Zamfara State, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji conducted a search and rescue operation at Dansadau and Dandalla villages in Maru LG of the state

It read, "During the operation, nine kidnapped victims were rescued which includes; five women and four babies.

"The victims were abandoned by the terrorists who fled after a gun duel with the resilient troops. The rescued victims were immediately reunited with their families at Magami."

This is the first operation's report released by the Nigerian Army in 2024.

In December 2023, PUNCH reports that troops from the 1 Division Nigerian Army neutralised 14 insurgents and rescued kidnapped victims in its operations in Niger and Kaduna states.

In the same month, troops of the OPDH also rescued 13 kidnapped victims and arrested 11 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Zamfara State.

Man Arrested For Attacking Lagos Officials With Charms

The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Gbolahan Oki, has disclosed an attack on officials of the agency with weapons and charms while on routine monitoring exercise along Musical Village, Awolowo Road in the Ikorodu area of the state.

This was revealed in a statement on the page of LASBCA on Thursday.

According to the statement, the assailant has been handed over to security operatives for prosecution.

The statement further noted that Oki disclosed this in the Ikeja office of the agency while condemning the increasing attack on officials of the agency on official duties.

He noted that no amount of intimidation or harassment will make the agency go back on its mandate in ensuring safe and secure buildings across the state.

He said, "These assailants not only obstruct our staff but also hold them hostage for hours, these acts of hooliganism will not deter us from carrying out our duties.

"Thankfully, we managed to overcome these attacks without any casualties. Our staff's resilience and quick responses have played a crucial role in overpowering the assailants and preventing more severe consequences."

In the statement, Oki called on the general public to support the agency in its mission to curb the menace of building collapses across the state.

It read, "Incidents of harassment and attacks tend to jeopardise the agency monitoring activities and can potentially pose significant threats to the public.

He urged the citizens to collaborate in ensuring the safety and integrity of structures that will foster a secure environment for all.

The PUNCH reports in December 2023, that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, warned artisans to avoid building projects without the supervision of the Lagos State Building Control Agency to avoid building collapse.

In response to her post, Yul in a post on Instagram on Tuesday, called on May to refrain from manipulating public sentiment against him, emphasising that he has endured enough and will not tolerate it in 2024.

Expressing his frustration, Yul emphasized that he has been silent for too long, in a bid to protect May's image, while she appears to be actively working against his.

He concluded with a firm declaration that he would not tolerate any further manipulation or attempts to tarnish his reputation in the new year.

He said, “Stop manipulating people on social media to hate me and feel pity for you. I will not take it in 2024. I’ve been silent for long, and I’ve been doing my best to protect your image, while you are doing all you can to destroy mine. Enough.

“God forbid, if you had lost your life while undergoing breast enlargement surgery, which you didn’t tell your husband about, what would people have said? 'Yul has killed that innocent woman, "Abi? Everybody will be insulting me. Who signed the consent paper? I was out of town then, working. You told me you weren’t feeling too well. I was saying sorry, I didn’t even know what was going on, till much later.

“And you still came out on social media in your calm voice, telling people you had been sick and recovering.

“And they were pitying you and insulting me. Why didn’t you tell them the truth, that you went for breast enlargement surgery? Enough of the manipulation. You have done enough.”

May and Yul Edochie, have three children together.

The couple made headlines last year when Yul embraced polygamy and introduced his new wife, Judy Austin, with whom he welcomed a son, Star Duke Munachimso Yul Edochie, in 2022.

The PUNCH reported the passing of 16-year-old Kambolichikwu, first son of May and actor Yul Edochie, who passed after he slumped while playing football in school.
