"IPOB should drop agitation, organize themselves and support me in the 2023 Presidential election and I will address all their pressing needs.

"These youths are agitating because they have no jobs that will keep them busy and that is the number one thing I will do to calm their nerves. Engage them with meaningful means of livelihood and watch the agitation die off.

"As a youthful Governor, i have the interest of IPOB at heart and believe you me, IPOB won't regret supporting me as i take over the leadership of this country come 2023."

The Mugbamugba War – Second Attempt by Yorubas to Regain Control of Ilorin

After the Fulani Jamma murdered Are-Ona-Kakanfo Afonja and seized control of Ilorin, Abdulsalam, the son of Shehu Alimi, became the first Fulani ruler of Ilorin.

Abdulsalam ruled with the title of Emir and not Oba which proved that the Yorubas had completely lost control of Ilorin, a Yoruba town, to the Fulanis.

In a bid to restore the control of Ilorin in the hands of the Yoruba people, Toyeje, the Baale of Ogbomoso and the new Are-Ona-Kakanfo, led an attack on Ilorin to expel the Fulanis but failed

After sometime, between the months of March and April when garden egg (Igba) was ripe for harvest, another attempt was made by the Yorubas to chase Fulani people out of Ilorin but failed again.

During this period, the whole land was already devastated by the previous wars and consequently there were no farms for foraging. Ilorin had also ran out of food, so both sides had no food to eat than garden egg (ìgbá) thus the war was named Mugbamugba.

The Yorubas suffered untold defeat in the Mugbamugba war. They did not know how else they could fight the Fulanis who were expert horsemen with potent charms. Monija, the king of Rabbah and a mercenary fighting on the side of the Yorubas, fled to his town leaving the Yorubas to their fate.

To crown their victory, the Fulanis of Ilorin attacked all towns in the directions of Offa, Erinle and Igbona. The Olofa of Offa with Asegbe (his Ilari) escaped to Ikoyi.

Brief about "Killi-We" Nwachukwu, from Oboro Umueze Ogwa, South-East Nigeria

“Killi-We” Nwachukwu was for more than two decades celebrated as a homegrown Nigerian “superman.” Some of his legendary feats of strength included lifting buses, having cement blocks crushed on his head, and allowing cars to drive over his body.

Superman Killi-Wee Nwachukwu was the strongest man in Nigeria–Philip Emeagwali

Killiwe in action
He was a superman who was going from place to place to perform. People paid to watch him. I saw him perform at our primary school in those days. I think his real name was Nwozuzu Nwachukwu (or something like that). I heard that “Killi We” was a nickname he got after a fight with a certain man, one commentator said.

A great natural Superman! Nwozuzu Nwachukwu (Son of God). “Killi We” was a nickname he got after a fight with a stubborn man “Tick man” who refused to pay him his money for a truck load of goods he conveyed from the market to the man’s home.
He used to push a wooden two wheel truck with which he carried goods for people. Then, Truck vehicles were not around, or were not affordable. So, after dropping off the goods, the man would not pay what Nwachukwu charged claiming it was too high. He tried to walk away and Nwachukwu grabbed him by the hand insisting he must pay. A fight ensued and he pinned the man to the ground. The man’s wife ran in and came out with a wooden pestle to assist her husband. Nwachukwu snatched it from her, lifted the woman up and pinned her on top of her husband on the floor. Powerless, she started screaming, Killi We Nwachukwu, Killi we Nwanchukwu” meaning, Nwachukwu, kill us!

In the early 90’s, we were asked to pay some money so that he will come and display his power. We gladly paid the money. On the D day od his assuMed coming, we waited, we couldn’t see him, so, we left. The following day in school, some students that were patient enough narrated how he came, how he carried four students on each of his hand and some many power acrobat . Menn….. It was like a hell to me that I didn’t wait to see this man.

He is real. That was anothr commentator.

And yet another.
He existed. Back in eighties, he came to our school, we paid 50 Kobo to watch him. He carried 10 bags of cement on his stomach and toyed a 504 peugeot SR with a rope on his teeth. Story had it that when he died, his body was deposited in Aladinma mourtuary, he in the night, will carry don all other corpeses and strech himself on them. He continued this till he was rejected by the morgue. He was real.

I remember hearing stories about Giant Alakuku as a child. But I don’t recall ever seeing him.

I remember Killiwe. He was a fat dude and used to tour the country performing stunts like grabbing cars by the bumper and preventing it from moving as someone stepped on the pedal.

I also remember a Seven-Seven song about Killiwe:

“Killiwe Nwaozize Nwachukwu
Abeg make you help me carry my load”

Great Ibeabuchi alias Pistor Killer of Ngodo Isuochi the Lion of Africa who was a great Superman who contested and won the mighty Kill-We Nwachukwu in the sixties.

List Of UN Demands To Nigerian, Kenyan Govt Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest, Extradition.

The Nigerian government had in June announced Kanu’s arrest and ‘extradition’ from Kenya to continue to face trial in Nigeria.

The United Nations Working Group has asked Nigerian and Kenyan governments to explain how the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and subsequently extradited.

The Nigerian government had in June announced Kanu’s arrest and ‘extradition’ from Kenya to continue to face trial in Nigeria.

He is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him at the court in response to years of the campaign for the Independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB.

The IPOB leader was granted bail in April 2017 for health reasons but he fled Nigeria following an invasion of his home in Abia State by the military.

However, the United Nations Working Group on arbitrary detention, under the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR), demanded explanations regarding Kanu’s illegal arrest and abduction in separate letters to the Nigerian and Kenyan governments on August 26, 2021.

The UN group noted in both letters that it also sent the British government, and the Nigerian or Kenyan government as the case may be.

The group comprises scholars and experts who specialise in human rights issues and related laws.

It noted in both letters that it received information “concerning allegations of enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention, torture and ill-treatment of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, by Kenyan security officials, as well as his illegal rendition to Nigeria, to face trial for terrorism related charges, which are believed to be linked to his leadership of the ‘Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’ group. It asked the government to respond to the allegations of Kanu’s illegal abduction, ill treatment and others”.

It noted that as part of the allegations, “In May 2021, Mr. Kanu travelled to Nairobi, Kenya. On 19 June 2021, he went to pick up a friend from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and was allegedly abducted. For the next ten days, Mr. Kanu’s fate and whereabouts were unknown.

“It was later reported that during his enforced disappearance, Mr. Kanu had been arrested at the airport’s parking lot, by a group of armed men in uniform believed to be Kenyan officials, without warrant or judicial order, who handcuffed and blindfolded him and pushed him into a vehicle. He was then taken to a private house, where he was detained for 8 days and allegedly subjected to torture and ill-treatment. During this period, Mr. Kanu was chained to the floor at all times, regularly beaten with a cloth over his mouth to prevent him from screaming, taunted and called a ‘terrorist Jew Biafran’, denied access to bath and toilet facilities, requiring him to urinate and defecate where he was chained, and was fed bread and water once a day.

“After 8 days of arbitrary detention in Kenya, Mr. Kanu was driven to the tarmac of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, handed over to Nigerian security officials, without any form of extradition or judicial process, and taken aboard a private jet to Abuja, Nigeria. On 29 June 2021, Mr. Kanu appeared before the Nigerian Federal High Court, in Abuja, in handcuffs and leg restraints, and was arraigned, without access to legal representation, based on previous charges brought against him in 2015.”

The UN group, therefore, stated that: “In view of the urgency of the matter, we would appreciate a response on the initial steps taken by your Excellency’s Government to safeguard the rights of the above-mentioned person in compliance with international instruments.”

From the Nigerian Government led by Muhammadu Buhari, it requested that it should “Please provide any additional information and any comment you may have on the above-mentioned allegations.

“Please provide detailed information on the current state of health of Mr. Kanu and the measures undertaken, or forseen, to prevent any irreparable damage to his life and personal integrity and to ensure that he has access to the medications and medical treatment required by his health conditions.

“Please provide detailed information on the circumstances under which Mr. Kanu was arrested, forcibly disappeared before being handed over to Nigerian authorities and transferred from Nairobi to Abuja. Please also clarify any international cooperation measures that may have taken place to arrest and transfer Mr. Kanu and provide any international arrest warrant that may have been issued against him, prior to his arrest.

“Please provide detailed information on the factual and legal grounds of the arrest and detention of Mr. Kanu, as well as formal charges against him, and the legal provisions used to charge him.

“Please provide full information on the period between 19 - 29 June 2021, during which Mr. Kanu was subjected to enforced disappearance, including his whereabouts and the conditions in which he was held, on the informal detention facilities during this period and explain how this is compatible with the international human rights obligations of Nigeria. Please provide information on whether an investigation was carried out into the alleged enforced disappearance of Mr. Kanu during this period of time, and whether those responsible have been held accountable.

“Please provide information on the measures taken to investigate the above-mentioned allegations of torture and ill-treatment perpetrated against Mr. Kanu during his detention in Nigeria and to hold those responsible accountable.

“Please provide full information on measures which have been taken, or which are foreseen, to guarantee the conduct of criminal proceedings by independent and impartial judicial authorities, in full compliance with the norms of due process recognised by international law, and the observance of fundamental safeguards, including unrestrained and confidential access a lawyer, to consular assistance, and to an independent medical doctor, as well as regular contact with his family.

“Please provide information in details of how your Excellency’s Government’s counter-terrorism efforts comply with the United Nations Security Council resolutions 1373 (2001), 1456(2003), 1566 (2004), 1624 (2005), 2178 (2014), 2341 (2017), 2354 (2017), 2368 (2017), 2370 (2017), 2395 (2017) and 2396 (2017); as well as Human Rights Council resolution 35/34 and General Assembly resolutions 49/60, 51/210, 72/123, 72/180 and 73/174 in particular with international human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law contained therein.”

Meanwhile, in its letter to the Kenyan government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, it requested: “Please provide any additional information and any comment you may have on the above-mentioned allegations.

Kanu, and provide any international arrest warrant that may have been issued against him, prior to his arrest, and the authorities who arrested and detained him in Kenya.

“Please provide detailed information on the factual and legal grounds of the arrest and detention of Mr. Kanu, as well as formal charges against him, and the legal provisions used to charge him.

“Please provide full information on the period between 19 - 29 June 2021, during which Mr. Kanu was subjected to enforced disappearance, including his whereabouts and the conditions in which he was held, on the informal detention facilities during this period and explain how this is compatible with the international human rights obligations of Kenya. Please provide information on whether an investigation was carried out into the alleged enforced disappearance of Mr. Kanu during this period of time, and whether those responsible have been held accountable.

“Please provide detailed information, where available, on risk assessment carried out by the Kenyan authorities to ascertain the risk Mr. Kanu may incur, including being subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment as well as arbitrary detention upon his extradition to Nigeria, and how this assessment is compatible with the international standards.

“Please provide information on the measures taken to investigate the above-mentioned allegations of torture and ill-treatment perpetrated against Mr. Kanu during his detention in Kenya and to hold those responsible accountable.”

“This communication and any response received from your Excellency’s Government will be made public via the communications reporting website within 60 days. They will also subsequently be made available in the usual report to be presented to the Human Rights Council,” the UN group added in both letters.

Did you know?

Despite the unpreparedness, inadequate weaponry, lesser number of fighters of the Biafran Army, despite the support of Russia, Egypt, Britain and the Soviet Union for the Federal side, the Federal troops had more casualties than the Biafran troops during the Biafran Genocide of 1967-1970?

When war is brought to your domain, you have somewhat have an advantage. The snake is only powerful and has more advantage than the Eagle when the Eagle is on land. But when the Eagle changes the battle ground and takes the snake to great heights, its own domain, it wins.

The weapons that had weakened the defunct Biafra were the blockade and mass starvation of the citizens. Biafran Soldiers fought while starving.

The deliberate indiscriminate air raids , bombings and shootings, recorded in many areas, targeting markets, churches, houses and mass gatherings that resulted in the death of a large number of civilians, were also a weapon to weaken the breakaway state.

A popular soldier on the Federal side had confirmed the war as a genocide and an attempt to exterminate the Igbo in his statement "When we move in to the Igbo territory, we shoot at anything that moves, even trees"

One had said that the Igbo deserved to be exterminated.

Also, some of the population in the breakaway state, sabotaged the Biafran dream, selling their own people out to the opponent troops.

History helps reconcile the past with the future. It helps avoids the repitition of past mistakes if known and applied.
Sadly, whether deliberate or not, the younger generation of Nigerians are deprived the privilege to learn about their past. History is no longer taught in schools!
