After a long deliberation that lasted for more than 4 hours between the leaders of NLC and TUC and top government dignitaries which included the Vice President, Kashim Shetima, Senate President, Speaker of House of Representatives, DGSS, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defense Staff, Minister of Labour and Employment, Minister of Power and Housing, Minister of Transportation, Chief of Naval Staff, all the State Governors, the Inspector General of Police and other respected stake holders, it has been unanimously resolved that today is Sunday and tomorrow is Monday.

UDUS: How 22-year-old Ilorin-lady emerged best-graduating student in Biochemistry with 4.87 CGPA

Initially, Haleemah Hamzah, a 22-year-old indigene of Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara state wanted to study Medicine and Surgery at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS). Despite scoring 284 in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2018, her course of choice was changed to Biochemistry.

Due to Haleemah’s passion for medicine, she worked hard in her 100-level so as to be among the top five students of her department with the hope of crossing to medicine. But, her hope was dashed when she found out that crossing into medicine is not realistic in the university.

Fortunately for Haleemah, her dedication to learning earned her 4.82 Grade Point (GP) out of 5.0 grading system in 100-level. Going forward, she had 4.85 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in 200-level, 4.90 in 300-level and finally graduated with 4.87 CGPA.

“We were much in the 100-level that had first-class, but as time went on we dropped drastically in the 300-level. The level was regarded as the hardest but that was when I had the perfect 5.0GP,” Haleemah narrated. Her wish since 2018 was to be among those that will give testimony to academic excellence.

While talking about her motivation to chase academic excellence, she said, “In 2019, I saw a lady who graduated as the best-graduating student of her school. Since then, I aim at being the best graduating student of my set. This was my motivation right from time. My parents are intellectuals, especially my mom. She graduated with distinction and made it to the top five in her class even at the postgraduate level while engaging in other tasks. I am always motivated by her level of intelligence.”

Malyaki, also known as Mutt Yaks, who passed away last night at the National Hospital in Abuja.

M***i Yaks was an inspiring figure in our community, known for his poise, calmness, and eloquence in preaching the words of Allah and the teachings of our beloved prophet. His preaching style, reminiscent of M***i Menk, earned him widespread admiration and the affectionate nickname "M***i Yaks." Despite his young age, he attended conferences in several countries, making significant contributions to Islam religion through dawah.

The Janaza prayer will take place at 10 am at Justice Muhammad Aliyu Maiyaki's second residence, Fadipke, Dutsen Kura Gwari, Minna.

May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdausi. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to guide and inspire us.

Urgent Action Needed: NANS Call to Kano State Government to Settle ASUU Demands and End Strike

National Association of Nigerian Students Students, are calling on the Kano State Government to take immediate and decisive action to address the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

This come from the deputy senate president Comr Huzaifa Sabo Usman which urge the government to engage in good-faith negotiations with ASUU and settle their demands to ensure a swift resumption of academic activities at our state universities.
Our scrutiny of the situation reveals a clear breakdown in communication and a lack of commitment to finding a sustainable solution.
The continued strike action is causing immense hardship for students. Valuable learning time is lost, jeopardizing academic progress and potentially delaying graduation. This disruption has a domino effect, impacting families struggling with educational costs and the overall development of our state.

We understand the challenges faced by both parties. However, we believe that prioritizing education and the future of our students should be paramount. Here's what we demand:

A commitment from the Kano State Government to address ASUU's legitimate concerns. This includes fair compensation for lecturers, improved funding for universities within the state's jurisdiction, and ensuring a conducive learning environment for students.
Open and transparent communication between the government and ASUU. Collaborative dialogue is essential for reaching a mutually beneficial agreement that prioritizes quality education.
A swift resolution to the strike action. We urge the Kano State Government to take the necessary steps to ensure a prompt return to normalcy for our universities.
The future of Kano State's youth and the overall development of our society depend on a functional and well-funded education system. We call on the Kano State Government to act decisively and work collaboratively with ASUU to end this disruptive strike and ensure uninterrupted access to quality education for all students.

Together, let's prioritize education and build a brighter future for Kano State!
