Stakeholders in the tobacco industry have been urged to adhere to the guiding industry labour laws.
Speaking during the launch of the Tobacco Industry Agriculture Labour Practices Code in Lilongwe, Minister of Labour, Agnes Nyalonje says government is committed to ensuring that every child is protected to not fall victim of child labour.
She further emphasized that the code will among others ensure zero tolerance to all forms of forced labour and human trafficking.
The launched practices code has been developed with support from Elimination of Child Labour in Tobacco - ECLT Foundation.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Michael Usi has called on players in the fish industry to ensure the availability of fish at affordable prices to benefit rural Malawians.
The Minister was speaking in Lilongwe during a High level multi-stakeholder dialogue session on the national plan of action for small scale fisheries in Malawi that is currently underway in Lilongwe.
Usi said it is quite disheartening to see most Malawians failing to access fish and miss out on it's valuable nutrients due to high prices on the market.
On his part, FAO Country Representative Dr. Chen Zhijun, commended the government for taking an active role in promoting fish farming.

The Ministry of Tourism says it is geared to ensure quality service delivery in the tourism industry.
Speaking in Lilongwe during an interface with the Presidential Delivery Unit, Principal Secretary in the ministry, Chancy Simwaka says there is need to provide training to those in tourism industry to up their game.
Simwaka cited poor road network and expensive airline charges among others as some of the challenges rocking the tourism industry.

Malawi has signed a charter signifying that it is now the official member of the African Mineral Strategy Group.
The signing ceremony between Malawi and the African Mineral Strategy Group has taken place in Lilongwe with Minister of Mining, Hon. Monica Chang'anamuno signing on behalf of the Malawi.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Minister of Mining says Malawi stands to benefit alot by being a member of the group as it will protect the interests of miners among others.

The Mwapata Institute, a local think-tank, is calling on the government to expand its social protection initiatives to shield vulnerable Malawians from external shocks. Professor Levison Chiwaula who is a research director at the institute, emphasized this crucial need during a press briefing today at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
Chiwaula highlighted the inadequacies of current social protection schemes, particularly the low disbursement amounts and short durations of programs like social cash transfers.
These recommendations stem from three comprehensive studies conducted by the Mwapata Institute with support from Irish Embassy, focusing on the impact of climate-related shocks and rising costs on social protection programs such as subsidies and cash transfers.
