NAMIBIANS HAVE ELECTED THEIR FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT H.E NANDI NDAITWAH AGE 72 WITH 57% OF VOTES RECENTLY

Namibia, a country in Southern Africa has elected 72-year-old Nandi-Ndaitwah as its first female president.

The country’s ruling party, the South West Africa People’s Organisation, was declared the winner of last Tuesday’s disputed elections, ushering in the southern African country’s first woman president after a disputed vote that the main opposition has already said it does not recognise.

Vice-President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah took just over 57 per cent of ballots, followed by the candidate for the main opposition, Independent Patriots for Change, with 25.5 per cent, the election authority announced on Tuesday.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, becomes the first woman to rule the mineral-rich southern African country that has been governed by the South West Africa People’s Organisation since independence in 1990.

The November 27 election was extended twice as logistical and technical problems, including a shortage of ballot papers, led to long queues.

Some voters gave up on the first day of voting after waiting for up to 12 hours.

The IPC has already said this was a deliberate attempt to frustrate voters and it would not accept the results of the elections.

Its presidential candidate Panduleni Itula, 67, said last week there were a “multitude of irregularities”.

No matter the result, “the IPC shall not recognise the outcome of that election”, he said on Saturday, the last day of the extended vote.

Opposition rejects poll

Itula said the IPC would “fight… to nullify the elections through the processes that are established within our electoral process”.

An organisation of southern African human rights lawyers serving as election monitors said the delays at the ballot box were intentional and widespread.

Of the nearly 1.5 million registered voters in the sparsely populated country, nearly 77 per cent had cast ballots in the presidential vote, it said Tuesday.

The election was seen as a key test for SWAPO after other liberation-era movements in the region had lost favour with young voters.

In the past six months, South Africa’s African National Congress lost its parliamentary majority, and the Botswana Democratic Party was ousted after almost six decades of power.

Namibia is a major uranium and diamond exporter, but analysts say not many of its nearly three million people have benefited from that wealth in terms of improved infrastructure and job opportunities.

Unemployment among 15- to 34-year-olds is estimated at 46 per cent, according to the latest official figures from 2018, which is almost triple the national average.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, a SWAPO stalwart known by her initials NNN, will be among the few women leaders on the continent.

The conservative daughter of an Anglican pastor, she became vice president in February this year.

Recognisable by her gold-framed glasses, she has tried to vaunt the wisdom of her years during the campaign, when she was often wearing blue, red, and green, the colours of her party, and of the national flag.

Among her election promises, NNN said she intends to “create jobs by attracting investments using economic diplomacy.”

56 SPECTATORS HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES IN A STAMPEDE AT A LOCAL STADIIM IN GUINEAN CITY OF NZEREKORE YESTERDAY DURING A FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

According to the report, the incident occurred yesterday December 1, 2024 at the N'Zérékoré regional stadium, during the grand final of the national foundation tournament, between the teams of N'Zérékoré and Labé.

According to Nimba Sport which provides the Information, this match took place under the patronage of the trophy of General President Mamadi Doumbouya (President of the Republic) and in the presence of a large government delegation, coming from Conakry, led by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Tiamou Bogola Haba, as well as Félix Lamah, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, and several national and regional executives.

The final began in an enthusiastic atmosphere, in front of more than 30,000 spectators, and took place in good conditions until the 68th minute. At this time, the central referee distributed a red card to a Labé player by mistake, then corrected his decision by awarding him a yellow card.

This decision provoked protest from Labé players, who left the field in protest.

After the intervention of the authorities present, the match was able to resume.
However, in the 83rd minute, the referee whistled a penalty in favor of N'Zérékoré, following a foul committed in the area by Labé.

This decision once again caused discontent among Labé players, who refused to return to the field.

Some Labé supporters, present in the stadium, threw stones on the pitch, triggering in return a reaction from N'Zérékoré supporters, who also started throwing stones. Despite the intervention of security forces and the use of tear gas, total chaos broke out, with stampedes which caused several victims, including deaths and injuries.

THE BURKINABEE MILITARY LEADER HAS YESTERDAY INAUGURATED THE COUNTRY'S FIRST COMMUNITY AND ONLY TOMATO FACTORY IN THE CITY OF BOBO DIOULASSO

The President of Faso, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE inaugurated, this Saturday morning, the Bobo-Dioulasso tomato processing factory, built as part of community entrepreneurship through popular shareholding.

This tomato processing factory, the first operational enterprise of the community entrepreneurship program, is today a reality and is part of us the Head of State's vision of promoting the creation of wealth through popular shareholding.
Called the Burkinabè Tomato Company (SOBTO), the factory whose work began in September 2023, specializes in the production of tomato paste, under the trade name “A'diaa” (flavor in the Dioula language). ).

“It has been 14 months since we started construction of the factory. Today is a big day.

I say thank you to the people who understood our mission and who subscribed massively,” the President of Faso spoke to the press at the end of the inauguration ceremony, convinced that endogenous development is the key to industrializing the country.

UDP CONDEMNS PRESIDENT BARROW’S DIVISIVE COMMENTS

UDP notes with grave concern that President Barrow perpetually dwells on tribal sentiments exposing his mindset that thrives on division and sees elected public office as an entitlement.

As a political party, and as citizens, UDP is duty bound to remind the President that it is out of place to single out a community or class of citizens for castigation based on their political choices.

Even more egregious is the singling out of the Mandinka community of LRR and labelling them as personal enemies, exposing them to hate, vilification, and political ostracization.

The presidency is the highest position of honour and privilege, and all citizens expect that the incumbent president will conduct himself with humility as a servant of the people.

The disgraced and exiled former President Jammeh employed the same disgusting tactics and went even further to threaten the Mandinka community with expulsion from their homeland and death.
The Gambian people rejected dictator Jammeh’s bigotry then, and they rejected this despicable attempt by the President and any future leader.

UDP believes that our linguistic diversity is a source of strength for our homeland. Gambians-are not blinded by political sycophancy and personal greed for power and wealth to know that tribal acrimony will be disastrous for the country.
Nothing is a greater threat to national security than attacking citizens for who they are.

It is noteworthy that history teaches that all failed leaders employ the same divisive tactics. Because they have nothing to offer to the people. Clearly President Barrow has little to show for the improvements he has made to people’s lives or explain the plans he has to improve the lives of the people of LRR, the only thing he can rely on to stay in power is by pitting citizens against each other.
In all his stops across the country, the president not once was heard talking about or defending his extortionist 2025 budget.
But that is not surprising, he sees the constitutionally mandated tour as an extension of his political activities and so conducts himself accordingly.

As a party, the UDP is squarely focused on policies that impact the lives of poor struggling Gambians and at this critical stage, when the executive has proposed a wasteful budget, we will not be distracted by utterances that further attest to a flawed character trait and clear manifestation for Gambians to come to terms with the fact that the man tasked with the role of improving their lives is not up to the task.
That fact should be clear to all.

After seven years in power, he has failed to improve himself, speaks with the same demeanour, and lacks a grasp of the most basic and fundamental issues.

If governments demand and receive tax revenue from citizens, which The Gambia government does, it is obligated to cater to the needs of those citizens without considering such obligation as a favour bestowed through political allegiance.

The president’s utterances in LRR threatening the citizens that without their political support, their needs would not be addressed is shameful and shows a lack of touch with reality.

The president is obligated to serve the needs of the people whether such people voted for him or not because the funds come directly from the people, or indirectly through grants and loans secured in the name of the people and not from the president’s pocket.

This conflation of the personal with the state is a manifest threat to democratic norms and unfortunately, this president has proven that democracy is an inconvenience.

As diverse people, we call on all Gambians to embrace our diversity and reject the politics of division and all politicians who trade in such.

WATCH AND LISTEN AS A CONCERN NIGERIAN EXPLAINS THE NEPOTISM PLAYS BY PRESIDENT TINUBU BY APPOINTING ONLY YORUBA TRIBE IN ALL KEY POSITIONS IN NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT AND THEREBY IGNORING MERIT AND QUALIFICATION.

OUT 250 PLUS TRIBES IN NIGERIA , THE THREE MAIN TRIBES INCLUDE HAUSA/ FULANI, YORUBA AND IGBO .

When it comes to employment at least 70% of jobs can be shared among three main tribes whilst the 30% remaining among the minorities and this will be balanced.

The current system of appointing only your tribes started mainly during the Buhari presidency and now continues in the TINUBU government.

If Nigeria's political system cannot change this nepotism practice of appointment in civil and military can plunge Nigeria into severe political upheaval one day .

It could be recalled during Obasanjo 's presidency in early 2000 he had appointed an Igbo woman Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
GCON between 15 July 2003 – 21 June 2006 as a finance minister and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was also appointed as finance minister by then president Good luck Jonathan

One of her greatest achievements was leading a team which negotiated a whopping $18bn debt write-off in 2005 for the country, helping Nigeria obtain its first ever sovereign debt rating.

The country's debts had dated back to the early 1980s, and had ballooned to more than $35bn due to penalties and late fees during the 1990s.

Her economic reforms had a far-reaching impact and saved Nigeria at a critical period, according to prominent Nigerian economist, Bismarck Rewane.

This included de-linking the budget from the oil price, allowing the country to save money in a special account when oil prices were high.

"It was this buffer that ensured Nigeria's economy survived between 2008 and 2009," Mr Rewane told the BBC.

Ms Okonjo-Iweala had given up a well-paid job at the World Bank and left her family in Washington, where her husband works as a neurosurgeon, to work in Nigeria, where unlike other ministers she did not have a large domestic staff or fleet of cars.

In fact she even liked doing her own cooking when she could, with cow-tail pepper soup being a favourite, a Financial Times interview revealed in 2015.

No-nonsense approach
But her reforms and especially her crackdown on corruption in the fuel sector, where some powerful importers - known as marketers - claimed huge sums of money in subsidies from the government for fuel they had not sold, came at great personal cost.
