Media Council pays courtesy visit to Media Academy
The Executive Secretary of the Media Council of The Gambia (MCG) on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Media Academy for Journalism and Communication (MAJaC).
Mr Junkung Jobarteh’s meeting with the management of MAJaC, led by Managing the Director, Mr Sang Mendy, centred on the work of the Media Council while exploring possible areas of collaboration between the two institutions.
He said: “Our mandate, in addition to receiving complaints with respect to ethical breaches, includes working with journalism training institutions in order to improve the standards of journalism practice and education.
He added: “In dealing with complaints, where we need expert opinion, we would want to rely on your expertise. So we need to work together and I invite you to register with the Council.”
On his part, the Managing Director of the Media Academy, Sang Mendy, welcome the visit.
He said: “For us, we wouldn’t want to be graduating students who would breach ethical standards. That’s where our partnership with you comes in terms of preparing our students enough.”
The two institutions agreed to develop a Memorandum of Understanding that will cover range of issues geared towards strengthening professional standards.
Meanwhile, the visit by Executive Secretary marks the beginning of the Council’s tour of media institutions.
