Here's The 4K Lowedown on "The Pope's Exorcist" (R - 2023 - Theater)
Genre: Horror/Possession

"Whatever you do...you only do because God allows it." I love possession movies...and the key to a good one for me are the exorcism scenes. In this one, the exorcisms are solid and even creative in some aspects. There were parts of this movie as a whole that I enjoyed...but it seemed like they took the story from The Exorcist and played it at double the speed. I think this is worth a watch for lovers of this type of film, but not one to go running to the theater for.

When an ex-soldier who discovers gold in the Lapland wilderness tries to take the loot into the city, N**i soldiers led by a brutal SS officer battle him.

"He killed seven of my men...did you tell him that?" This was really good! Grainy and visceral, this movie plays more like an old spaghetti western than a typical war movie. It is superbly violent, with brilliant practical effects. I don't think you need to go running to the theater on opening night for this, but it is worth a watch for sure. I will by the physical release as son as it comes out.

"Good ideas have no borders." Let me start by saying how much I hated Tetris. It was not a good game for me and this is why I bought a Sega Genesis instead of Nintendo. That being said, this was a really good film...Apple TV+ did it right. Solid all the way through with a great ending, I think they were a little heavy-handed with some of the story. If you have any interest in the game or even the cold war, this is a solid watch.

A convenience store worker receives a random call from a nearly blind woman who is running from her murderous ex in the woods. To survive, the caller must rely on someone she never met to be her eyes.

"Could you video call me and guide me to somewhere safe?" This was pretty good. On the one hand, you have a great story centering on the caller and what she's dealing with. On the other side is a story in the convenience store that I didn't want. I love Missi Pyle, but she does not work here, They could have left it with the convenience store clerk dealing with her own demons and that would have been enough. It's worth a watch, but there are some groaner moments.

"He wants the world to think that he's a bad dream that's come true." I liked this a lot! I have not seen the series, but I found I did not need it...the character development gives you just what you need to understand the movie. Andy Serkis was equal parts crazy and intense...he stole the show. This is definitely worth a watch...it has also made me want to seek out the series.

"There are many Albert DeSalvos out there...and your safe little world is just a delusion." I liked this...more of a Drama but it plays just like a Thriller in the Vein of Se7en or the Bone Collector. Only this story is based in fact. I like the unusual way they film ed the killed scenes...it led to using your imagination. This is a solid watch on hulu, but I would like to see a physical release of this as well.

After a series of tragedies, A couple moves back to the wife's childhood home. After he discovers an old portrait of a man who looks like him, he goes down a rabbit hole to discover his identity.

"Just take it as a sign...you are where you were meant to be." I liked the trailer for this and the first 20 minutes were very interesting...playing way better as a psychopathic thriller than anything else. But then they seemed to run out of script, as they took the last 20 minutes of movie time and stretched it out into 70 minutes in the vein of watching grass grow. This would have been better as a short film...as it is I don't think it it was worth a watch.

"The only thing that matters now...is our game." Blumhouse has given me both good and bad of late...this is one I really liked. I think this has enough for the horror fan, but this plays more as a thriller. Nothing was really explained here and normally it doesn't work for me...but with such a simple story, the whole not knowing part was kind of cool. I was left with many questions while the credits started rolling...one of which was, "When can I watch this again?"

"My God, the world is full of complete idiots who have managed to figure it out, and you are not a complete idiot." I really liked this...though it may not hold a candle to the book or original international movie. This is my Favorite of Tom Hanks in a few years...thank goodness it was at least better than Pinocchio. All thing's being equal, I think this was worth a watch.

"She's taking her medicine...it helps her body produce new healthy blood." Appealing to the most genre specific viewers, Blood Red Sky is equal parts action and horror movie, with an ending I expected and at the same time surprised me. Aside from Dominic Percell, this movie is pretty much a foreign film. I liked it, but this is only worth a watch if you are fans of the genre and type of movie.

"Do you ever get the feeling that people are incapable of not caring?" There was a lot of talk about Brenden Fraser's job on this...and then to see he won the Oscar for best actor made me want to watch it. His performance as well as the rest of the cast was amazing as expected...a beautiful, character driven story that completely delivered. I don't know if this will be more than a great one-time watch for me, but I'm glad I own it.

"Three million views in six minutes...that's money!" I liked this...it had a Beetlejuice feel in parts and the effects on the ghost were fun and refreshing. It wasn't very creepy nor was it acted well, but all in all, the movie was pretty solid. Considering all the garbage that Netflix can put out, this is a good watch. This is one I would buy on Blu-ray if it's ever released.

"I don't know where we are...but there's something out there...something alien." I found myself asking if this was a time travel movie by watching the trailers. It unfortunately spoils that right at the start of the film. The Sci-Fi effects were pretty good, but the movie as a whole felt a little flat. I was invested in the characters and the story works itself out nicely, but ultimately I can only say this is worth a one-time watch.

"Your heart's a long way from your knee...suck it up!" Although predictable, this was a heart-warming story was more about the growth of the coach than the players. Madison Tevlin stole the show as Constantino...I was a bit bored really until her character showed up. Whether I'd watch this again or not is a jump ball, but this is worth a one-time watch where the dialogue as well as the characters are genuine.

"To sing with the gods, sometimes you need a ladder." I liked this...the music is paramount here and even though most of it is lip synced by the lead it was still awesome. Stanley Tucci shines as Clive Davis and I even liked Ashton Sanders as Bobby Brown. However, they seemed to spend too much time talking about parts of her career and not enough time on others. You can tell this is the same guy that wrote Bohemian Rhapsody...I think this is worth a watch, but not as good as the Freddie Mercury story.

"There may have been a time where Damian has had your back...but that's not what he's doing now." This was a good third installment in the Creed franchise, but you can tell it was Michael B. Jordans directorial debut. I like the risks that he took...some worked, and some didn't for me. It was odd that my favorite boxing match didn't include Adonis, but I still liked how it played out. Mila Davis-Kent shines as the daughter here. This is well worth a watch if you have been a fan of the franchise as I have.

"What's that at the window...can't you see?" The trailer really hooked me...I was all ready to enjoy this. The beginning was good...with a lot of cinematography that reminded me of "Get Out". Then it devolved into a mess of a movie...and even worse an ending that I didn't like at all. This was just a slow burn that didn't have the payoff I wanted. While I can't recommend it as a good watch...this is a middle of the road movie for Netflix.

"You're so frozen these days I can't even tell if you're sleeping or awake." When I say this is very Cronenberg, many would understand that it means this is a twisted and disturbing movie. I love Mia Goth and hearing her natural accent was refreshing. This is a solid thriller, but with a weirdness that I can't say I liked. Again, very Cronenberg...well acted but with a story I can't get behind. If you are a fan of this style, this is worth a watch.

"So when something like this happened there was no language for it. And without language for it, there was a gaping silence. And in that gaping silence was the real horror." In an age where visuals are the key to a great movie, this is all about the dialogue. The script and acting are so masterfully done that it hooked me from the start. Claire Foy is absolutely breathtaking in her role and should have had a supporting actress nomination. This reminded me of 12 Angry Men...slow moving but worth a watch.

The artwork was done two different ways...one being your conventional DreamWorks stuff and when the fight scenes started it was all of a sudden Into the Spiderverse. This film from the Shrek franchise is worth a watch for sure.

"I've always imagined that my life was like a typical romantic comedy." This tragic story of love and loss was well made...with bits of Jim Parsons' Sheldon role sprinkled in for laughs. Sally Field really shines here as the mom. It is currently available on Peacock or rentable on Prime or Vudu. While on paper this doesn't seem like much, it is well worth a watch.

"That is one pudgy dragon!" The Dungeon Master in me loved this movie, though it felt more 5th edition and I was hoping for 3.5 (if you know, you know)! there are many creatures, spells, and items taken directly from the game and in some ways this could have been an adventure I wrote back in the day. If you are a fan of fantasy films or even played Dungeons and Dragons, than this is worth a watch.

"Not every movie needs a post credits scene." I liked this, but I didn't find it scary enough for me. This was filtered water and I just wanted to drink it from the tap. I found myself missing Neve Campbell, but Jenna Ortega is a gem and I loved the reemergence of Hayden Panettiere; which made the twist harder to pin down for me. The Scream franchise is all about blood, twist, rinse, and repeat...and this is no different. If you are a fan, then this is worth a watch.

"Friendship means little when it's convenient." RIP Lance Riddick. I loved this...a great 4th installment for the John Wick saga. Insert new bad guys...Bill Skarsgard was a low point for me but his outfits were equal parts Liberace and The Joker. Then you got Donnie F'n Yen...the first bad guy that looked like John Wick might lose against was awesome in his role. Is it the end? who knows, but I loved this so much I saw it twice in the theater.

"I want to help you get what's in here and just splash it onto there." This just wasn't my bag. This type of comedy definitely has an audience but unfortunately, I should not be counted as one of them. Being as objective as I can be I can say that the chemistry was good with the cast and the physical comedy was solid along with the parody on Bob Ross (he says inspiration, I say made fun of). I just didn't think it was funny at all and not worth a watch for me. There were people laughing in the theater (well one guy, but he was really loud), so what to I know.

"Oh yeah right...I never saw The Godfather." I have to say this started out a bit of a groaner...slow moving and I was unhappy with the lead in her role. By the time I was halfway through I noticed a change in the dynamic of the film and ended up enjoying the second half. There was some funny bits, good action, and a level of gore I didn't expect. I don't think this is a 'run to the theater' or 'buy it as soon as it's out' movie, but it's worth a watch. I would see it again.

"Hell yes I'm going to shoot him...he took a bite out of my ass!" This was fun...one of those movies that is exactly what you think it is. It was funny enough, had great gore, but not a very good script. Even Elizabeth Bank's direction couldn't turn this into an Oscar nominee. That being said, this is a good watch...worth seeing if you get the chance at a good price.

"If you're going to steal...steal a lot." This was alright...trying to be too smart for its own good made the story predictable al the way through. I just didn't feel the intensity to call it a thriller. but that's what it wanted to be. On paper, this seems like it would be a great movie...Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to that. I do think it's worth a watch on AppleTV+ if you're desperate for anything new.

"The Werewolf running wild in Nybo is no myth." I liked this...look up the legend of the Adlet; which is said to be the origin of the werewolf and there are some connections to this movie. I grade all werewolf movies by the transformation scene and this one was solid. If you are a sucker for werewolf movies and don't mind international films, this Norwegian movie is worth a watch on Netflix.
