A party for the Underground, held under-ground seems quite novel, with an early night rave being held in The Bees Mouth basement; Elation Industries first event went down a storm. Three DJ’s and a live act back to back, playing an array of house, techno, UKG and acid house for five hours, accompanied by incredible visuals and cheap drinks; it was already looking to be a hell of a night, and boy did they deliver.
It’s 7PM on a Friday night, and most people are going to the pub for a cheeky pint or two before they hit the club at 11. Not me though, I’m on my way to a rave. I walk down the not-so-crowded streets of Brighton, it’s quiet and a little bit early to go on a mad one for most people; but I think they’re missing out on a trick. I make my way into The Bees Mouth — normally the hub for all things jazz; but not tonight. When you walk into the bar, there doesn’t really appear to be much going on; but walk a little deeper into the joint and you can hear a faint beat…coming from the basement.
Bringing the London Techno scene to the heart of Brighton is a bold move. You don’t generally see a lot of that down by the coast, and apart from the usual suspects — Patterns and The Arch — nothing else really caters to the house and techno community that’s hiding away in Brighton. Elation Industries, however, are taking the first steps of bringing the early-night rave to this lovely sea-side city; hosting events across Brighton to cater to those of you who like a bit of unity and good tunes.
The night started off with newly formed duo and all round lovely chaps DZRT FRST; playing a carefully chosen two-hour selection of the grooviest deep house, soft techno and disco around; easing us into the evening ahead. Although only a few people were present for the first set of the night, that didn’t stop the DZRT FRST guys from delivering a set full to the brim with groove.
