Last week the Haig Park Community Centre was official opened. In honour of an incredible Canberran, Sue Salthouse, it has been named the Salthouse Community Centre.

A beautiful space to bring people together, thoughtfully designed with recycled timber from lakeside Wharfs and the old Tharwa Bridge, as well as bricks from the old park depot.

We all need a bit of TLC now and then, even sporting legends cast in bronze!

Mal Meninga and Laurie Daley have been braving the elements out at GIO Stadium for quite some time, so we called in Gillian Mitchel from Conservation Works to give them some love.

The works were cleaned, corrosion treated and then they both received a coating of microcrystalline wax and hit with the blow torch to melt it into the bronze. Once cooled, the works were buffed to bring out the desired colour and texture of the bronze. The work took two days as Gillian thoroughly cleaned the entire works, including Laurie’s teeth!

These amazing sculptures are permanent inhabitants of GIO Stadium, created by artists Cathy Weiszmann (Mal Meninga) and Peter Corlett (Laurie Daley).

Welcome to the Thunder Dome!

Aka - The Brave Cave

Canberrans’ access to a new ice sports facility is a step closer after the ACT Government announced it will support a detailed proposal from Cruachan Investments Pty Ltd and Pelligra Holdings Pty Ltd.

The proposed Tuggeranong facility includes two ice rinks that comply with International Ice Hockey Federation standards and curling lanes.

The proposal is to design, construct, own, operate and maintain the new facility, to be built on Rowland Rees Crescent in Greenway.

More information will be available in the coming weeks.

We're getting on with building Canberra's future.

That means investing in the infrastructure that's built for Canberra, to ensure the ACT of the 2030's continues to be one of the most liveable cities in the world.

A major project that's part of our plan is the duplication and upgrade of Athllon Drive.

Today we released a design contract for the southern section. That's good progress.
Once complete the project will include:

✅duplicating the road
✅new bus stops
✅intersection improvements
✅a new pedestrian underpass under Sulwood Drive.

Did you hear the good news?

Next year we'll consult on expanding the ACT Container Deposit Scheme.

We've got 366 million reasons why that's a good idea.

It'll include wine, spirit and cordial bottles.

A new player has entered the game.

This is Stinker, one of the Eastern Long-Necked Turtles who calls Nature Reserve home.

These turtles sq**rt a horrible odour from glands above each leg if they feel threatened, but they're awesome to see (and smell) from a distance.
