Saturday 12th October
27th Week in Ordinary Time
First Reading:
*Galatians 3:22-29*
Brethren: The Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.
Responsorial Psalm:
*Psalm 105:2-3, 4-5, 6-7 (R. 8a)*
R. The Lord remembers his covenant forever. or: Alleluia.
O sing to him, sing his praise; tell all his wonderful works!
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice.
R. The Lord remembers his covenant forever.
Turn to the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face.
Remember the wonders he has done, his marvels and his words of judgment.
R. The Lord remembers his covenant forever.
O children of Abraham, his servant, O descendants of the Jacob he chose, he, the Lord, is our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
R. The Lord remembers his covenant forever.
Gospel Acclamation

V.
Blessed are those who hear the
word of God and keep it.

Gospel:
Luke 11:27-28
At that time: As Jesus said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!" But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
Reflection:
In praise of Mother Mary:
The womb of Mother Mary was surely blessed because she bore within herself, him whom the whole world could not contain. Blessed too were the breasts which nursed the infant Jesus who grew in age, wisdom and grace. But Mary's blessedness went well beyond merely her physical relationship with Jesus. Her bond with Jesus rather because it was rooted in her openness to the word of God. She heard the word of God and pondered it in her heart. "Mary heard God's word and kept it, and so she is blessed. She kept God's truth in her mind, a nobler thing than carrying his body in her womb" (St. Augustine). Our openness to listen to what God is saying to us every day is what bonds us closely to Jesus.
SAINT OF THE DAY
Wilfrid
Born: 633 Northumbria
Died : 709 Northamptonshire
St Wilfrid was an English bishop in the 7th century. Born to a noble family, he chose to join a Benedictine monastery. At that time, Christianity in England was in a confused and divided state. St Wilfrid worked hard to bring the Church in England in line with the practices of Rome. For this, he often suffered under the hands of the local authorities. He also spent much of his time converting the pagan Saxons to Christianity.
