He is kept busy with his work . He first made a model of a toy boat which he called “The Sunseeker” and outside the boat it has lights which can be switched on and off.

Two prosecutors nabbed for corruption
By Sharon Chikowore
CHINHOYI - Two Karoi public prosecutors with the National Prosecuting Authority have been nabbed, accused of taking a bribe.
The two, Progress Maponde (31)and Milton Kadzumba(28), allegedly accepted a US$100 bribe on January 14, 2022 in exchange for a lighter sentence for a man accused of stock theft.
Appearing before Chinhoyi magistrate Tamari Chibindi, the duo was charged with criminal abuse of office, and remanded in custody to February 2.
The court heard that the prosecutors allegedly took the US$100 bribe
from the brother of the man accused of stock theft, Arthur Chikwerengwe to ensure a lighter sentence for the offence.
Indeed, the sentence passed in the case by the Karoi magistrates court was shockingly light.
While stock theft crimes attract a mandatory nine year jail term, Chikwerengwe was fined $28 340, and sentenced to 10 months in jail, of which six were suspended for five years, and the remaining four also quashed if he restituted US$180 to the complainant by March 17.
The complainant, Nolia Chiringwaringwa who was to give evidence on the stock theft case saw and heard the two solicitating for a bribe and reported the issue which led to the duo being arrested.

CUT student commended for his amazing art works
By Fortunate Gunde and Farai Chikore
CHINHOYI- A Chinhoyi University of Technology final year Visual Communications and Multi-Media Design student was recently commended for his amazing artworks, a combination of old and contemporary art, showcased during his debut Solo Art exhibition themed New Dawn.
Prominent business man and Zimbabwe Show Societies President Mr Godfrey Mavhankeni who was the guest of honour at the exhibition praised and acknowledged the raw talent that Simbarashe Mukwasi possesses when he officially opened the exhibition.
Addressing the gathering at the exhibition MrMavhankeni said he realized that most people underrate the visual art and design field like he also used to but he later realized its importance at a later stage.
“People they look down upon this field of art and design I would like to tell you that at our organization every year we do take students on attachment. I was one of the people who was looking down upon this field but when we engaged one of the students, we saw a change in terms of the impact yaanounzamuorganisation, advertising you know, hatizivizvinhuzvosetose.
“We are talented in different ways. Ndopatakazo tanga kuona the importance of this degree tirikudakukutendaivanhuveku Chinhoyi University of Technology for coming up with such a programme. I wish all of us we should appreciate the importance of that programme especially in our organizations. We have made it a point that we engage students from this department,” said MrMavhankeni.
The exhibition shows cased various forms of art works by the student with some of artworks making use of modern technology and designing software.
“The Art works are based on various types, styles and forms that Simbarashe has acquired in his art journey.”
Simbarashe specializes in Graphics designing, with his skills deeper into the branding zone and amongst his works are apparels including branded books, bags, written visuals in the form of scripts, cards, books and culture branded bags.
The branded bags are from his specialization project and are branded based on African games and patterns.
“Personally, I admire that commitment to advancing the combined agendas of an old system of art with a new form of contemporary art work. These are not always easily reconciled roles they can pull in different directions, proceed from different assumptions and appeal to different constituencies but we are here today witnessing the beautiful merging of these two dimensions.
“Art is a complex form of individualistic expressions which has been diffused in various ways over the years from DaVinci to Michelangelo, from Shakespeare to Chinua Achebe each and every person has his or her own view and thoughts towards art, expressing it is what matters the most. This is the key into making people see what you want them to see. We are witnessing a milestone achievement today and a major step in the future of art,” said MrMavhankeni.
The exhibition is a partial fulfillment of the Bachelor of Science honours degree in Visual Communications and Multi-Media Design, and represents the knowledge imparted, skills and experience gained in the four years of his studies.
Chinhoyi University of Technology lecturer Jocelyn Gwaii said exhibitions show case the skills that the students would have learnt in 4 years.
“These are practical courses so one has to be hands on.”
The exhibitions are organized personally by the students and are included in their final assessment.

Bogus nurse intake racket exposed
By Paul Pindani
CHINHOYI-The Ministry of Health and Child Care officials in Mashonaland West have urged perspective nursing students to follow the normal procedure of applying for nurse training vacancies after an alert Hurungwe teacher exposed a bogus nurse intake racket after applying for a non-existent nurse training intake online.
Mashonaland West Provincial Medical Director, Dr Gift Masoja told Telegraph that the Ministry of Health and Child Care does not use nursing recruitment agencies.
“ We advertise in the newspaper and prospective job seekers apply to that as there are no agencies required.
“Please don’t part with your hard-earned money. Follow the normal procedure applying for nursing,” said Dr Masoja.
The teacher wanted a nurse training place for her daughter and she applied online before realizing that she was about to be duped.
The teacher who requested anonymity for professional reasons told Telegraph that the scammers sent the application details to peoples’ inboxes as bait to lure them to apply for the nurse training intake.
“The Nursing school racket is milking unsuspecting people of their hard-earned money. These guys were fishing for potential candidates by sending some messages which they would acknowledge would have been sent by mistake as a bait to lure potential candidates.”
The teacher said she talked to them but was told that she cannot be enrolled because of her age. However, since she also wanted a place for her daughter, she kept in touch with the scammers.
A Dr Mike Matanda sent a message to her asking if she was still interested.
“ Hello, it’s Dr Mike, if you are still interested in a nursing place app me and will organize for you. We have orientation for January intake on Monday.
“Email me your academic certificates, birth certificate and ID to [email protected] before 3 pm tomorrow. Let me know when you send,” wrote Dr Matanda to the teacher.
The teacher said the scammers got an email that looks authentic at first.
“They have got an email which looks authentic and I sent my daughter’s certificates as I at first did not suspect anything sinister since I thought everything was above board,” she said.
Later he sent a message in the evening telling her that a place could be arranged for her daughter but at a cost of US$350 which she would pay within the first two months of her daughter starting.
“Unozobhadhara kana wagutsikanakutieverything is above board.
“If you are interested you will have to go and register either tomorrow or Friday. When you register that’s when you get your offer letter,” he said.
She was later told to go to Parirenyatwa Hospital with her certificates for registration.
“ Place at Parirenyatwa Hospital. You can go register tomorrow morning at 11am with Certificates, ID and passport sized photos.
“Bring US$35 for portal uploading, $5000RTGS for registration. Let me know wasvika will be assisting you,” he said.
Dr Matanda told her that she needed to deposit the $35 at Chicken Inn on Innbucks before doing the procedure at the nursing school.
“ Reason being the $35 is paid to IT guys at the MOHCC head office who will upload the application on the portal so the process can’t be done before it’s uploaded,” he said.
Dr Matanda added;” Let me give you details of Nathaneel Banda 18107104J18, 0718508269. Send on those details.”
She traveled to Harare for registration and did not mind paying the $5000RTGS registration fees and US$35, but what troubled her when she arrived was, instead of first paying the registration fees and offer letter, they told her to first pay the US$35.
“It was then that I realized I wanted to be duped and had to board a bus back home to Hurungwe.
“It boggled my mind how I was going for registration without police clearance and a medical report. That raised an element of suspicion in me that something is not right,” she said.
She said the other thing, is that they cannot open one’s portal before registration. What starts is the registration.
“I have been through many tertiary institutes where you first register not everyone who applies has their portals opened.”
Dr Masoja said the man involved in the scam is not a doctor.
He urged the community to report such cases of fraud to the police.

ZCTU calls for sanitary wear levy
By Farai Chikore
CHINHOYI--The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in Mashonaland West have called on the government to introduce a levy to be channeled towards producing sanitary wear, which the majority of girls and women, particularly in rural areas, cannot afford.
The proposal was submitted to the recently elected ZCTU Executive during a labour forum which was recently held in Chinhoyi.
Thousands of girls miss school during their menstrual cycle as they
would not have proper materials to absorb the period and avoid spotting.
Many women use unhygienic methods including unsterilised cloths and
other materials which make them susceptible to urinary tract infectionsand other challenges.
A ZCTU official from Mashonaland West, Memory Makanya proposed the introduction of the levy, whose proceeds she said would also be used to establish systems of disposing the sanitary waste.
Makanya said the government should consider the issue seriously, since the menstrual cycle was a natural phenomenon for women during their reproductive years.
“The sanitary wear levy should be ring-fenced so that it is used for manufacturing and free distribution of sanitary pads to all women, and
to fix the inadequate waste management facilities,” she said.
She said the sanitary wear should be distributed for free in retail shops, pharmacies, cosmetic stores as well as in schools and at work places.
The levy would apply to all formally employed workers and the funds
channeled to manufacturing companies, thereby creating thousands of jobs while safeguarding the health of women and girls.
Speaking to the media after the Labour Forum ZCTU President Florence Taruvinga said she accepted the challenge she was given by fellow women and all the resolutions will be taken to the national council for considerations and also promised that issue to do with women will be considered first.
“I’m happy with the women participation at this Labour Forum all that they have said will be taken into consideration. In doing so, it can create thousands of new jobs while safeguarding the health of a women both in and outside workplaces,” said Taruvinga.
In addition to allocating funds in the National Budget, the Zimbabwe government has instituted a number of measures to make sanitary wear affordable to the marginalized women, including removing import duty and Value Added Tax on the products.

Ministry push for gender equity in all sectors
By Sharon Chikowore
CHINHOYI- The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, is pushing for the inclusion of women and 50-50 gender equity in all sectors.
Speaking during a business consultative meeting in Chinhoyi on Tuesday, Cde Stembiso Nyoni said women should not be looked down upon in all sectors since they are also able to do the work men do and should rise and fight for their positions.
“We must fight for 50- 50 in every sector. Our constitution gives us that, so let’s rise and take that.
“If you leave women behind you have left the whole nation behind. Women must take the lead,” she said.
Minister Nyoni said women needed to be trained for different sectors and that as women there is need for a Zimbabwean umbrella board which represents women in Trade.
“We are here so that we galvanise you towards 2030. We need a Zimbabwean umbrella board for women that say women in production and women in trade.
“Vendors are being chased all over and I feel embarrassed and we must put a stop to that. We need to start organising vendors, registering them and training them.
“They are no longer called ‘vendors’ but are now called small traders,” said Minister Nyoni.
There were complaints from women during the consultative meeting, that some men are only putting their names on the offer letters of land they were given and exclude their wives which then causes problems whenever inputs are being issued and are told that they are not the owners because their names are not on the offer letters.
Women said it’s also happening in other forms of businesses where they will have started the business together with their husbands but then they are left out on registering the business.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde, Mary Mliswa- Chikoka, supported the issue of women taking their positions, rising without fear and helping each other.
“Women it is time for us to rise but you cannot do that alone, we have to be united as the whole province including all the women in rural areas and also include all races in our communities starting from as far as Siakobvu.
“As women we have to think outside the box, plan and train in the productive sector,“ she said.
Minister Nyoni also took the opportunity to talk about Gender Based Violence with the women and urged them to strive to stop and end it, by working together.
“GBV increased and let’s try as women to make sure it comes to an end. Let’s all work together to prevent GBV. Peace begins with us, with you, with me, with all of us. Let’s find out why there are so many cases of GBV in our communities and the reasons behind it,” said Cde Nyoni.

House gutted by fire in Chinhoyi
By Paul Pindani
CHINHOYI- A nurse at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital had his eight roomed house in Chinhoyi’s St Irves suburb gutted by a fire suspected to have been caused by a gas stove.
The owner of the house Tendai Kachidza, told Telegraph he was yet to come to terms with what happened.
Kachidza said he lost all the property he had worked for, save for some sofas that the neighbours managed to pull out of the house after breaking the security screen gate.
The unfortunate incident happened around 6:30pm on Tuesday.
Kachidza’s daughter was lucky to be alive after she was rescued by her neighbours from the raging inferno.
Kachidza said his 21-year-old daughter Munashe had left some water on the gas stove and fell asleep.
“I am still in a state of shock and disbelief. My daughter told me that she left a pot of water on the gas stove to boil, but fell asleep.
“Munashe told me that she remembers waking up to see the whole house engulfed by fire and heavy smoke.”
His daughter was rushed to hospital after inhaling too much smoke.
“She was rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where she is recuperating. However, she is in a stable condition,” he said.
An eye witness who requested anonymity castigated the local authority for not being sensitive to the residents’ plight and purchasing a fire tender.
He said the Municipality of Chinhoyi had misplaced priorities.
“This house could have been saved had our local authority had a fire tender. It’s very saddening indeed that a lot of property is being razed down to ashes because our council is not prioritizing purchasing a fire tender,” he said.
A neighbour called on the local authority to make sure that residents do not continue losing their properties to fire.
“I hope our council is going to be sensitive enough and swallow its pride and buy fire tenders.
“Chokwadi midziyonedzimbazvotsvatakatarisanechikonzerochokuti council is always found wanting when there is a fire because they cannot extinguish it nokutihavanachidonehanyanazvo,” she said.
A senior citizen said people just watched the house being razed because council does not have a functioning fire tender.
“All they are good at is wanting to buy expensive cars at the expense of service delivery,” fumed the 69-year-old citizen.
The Municipality of Chinhoyi Public Relations Manager Mr Tichaona Mlauzi told Telegraph that the local authority had got a donation of a fire tender from an organization called Operation Florina.
He said the fire tender was now at Walvis Bay in Namibia.
“We got a donation of a fire tender. We paid for it and is now at Walvis Bay.
“The fire tender will be transported to the border and our drivers will take over,” said Mr Mlauzi.
He said if all the necessary papers are done in time, the fire tender will arrive next week.

Govt avails $125m for women, community empowerment

By Tanaka Madochi

CHINHOYI-Government has availed $125 million this year to the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development for the empowerment of women and the community.
The funds will be distributed among the ten provinces through the Women Development Fund which avails loans to groups of women and the Zimbabwe Community Development Fund which gives loans to groups that include both men and women, undertaking various projects.
Speaking at a woman in business consultative meeting in Chinhoyi recently the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Director Mrs Tariro Chipepera urged women to apply for the loans under the two funds and do projects that enhance production in the country.
“In choosing projects let us try to deal with those that are more into production so that we can improve our country’s production,” she said.
The loans are supposed to paid back over 12 months, attracting a 10 percent interest per annum.
“When we are looking at vision 2030 yedu, ngatiitei ma businesses ariinto production, kwetezvekunohodhaitai ma business ekuchengetahuku, kugadzira ma detergents nemamwewoariinto production,” said MrsChipepera.
Those who want to apply for the loans were urged to submit their business proposals at district level before they are forwarded to the province until they reach the national level for verification and approval.
Last year the ministry received $65m for the funds and managed to fund 13 groups in Mashonaland West two of which are doing exceptionally well.
At the meeting the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Dr Stembiso Nyoni said her ministry is willing and ready to fund women in different types of businesses in Zimbabwe.
She said they are moving around the provinces to encourage women in production so that when they hold a national indaba everyone is aware of what they should do.
“I’m sure you are all aware of the vision of our President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) for 2030, that this country must be middle income and madzimai we thought if we don’t galvanize women to engage in production and meaningful businesses that will be a pipe dream for women, so we are here so that we galvanize you towards 2030, so that when 2030 comes the women are major players in that middle income,” said Cde Nyoni.
Women from different business organisations such as Arts and Craft, Young Women for ED, Fish industry, disabled representatives, CUT Women Entrepreneurship Development Unit, Mining, Piggery Association and others highlighted the challenges that they are facing and requested the ministry’s assistance.
The challenges include capital, registration of companies, lack of market places, work places, exhibition centers and licenses among others.
The Chairperson of the Mining, Vimbai Chipangura said, “takabvumidzwaku miner zvicherwazvatinogonana President veduasiit is taking too long for one to get a mining license, tinokumbirarubatsirorwenyuHonorable Minister.”
The women in business were told that their challenges had been heard and the ministry will do its best to help solve them.
