_Influenza A hits Zimbabwe.
Harare has recorded more than 1300 influenza cases. The more than 70% are from hig density areas Mbare, GlenView, Budiriro, Tafara, Glen Norah topping the list. 40 % of cases are children below 4 yrs.

Preliminary results so far show that Influenza A virus may be the cause of the current surge in Influenza cases.

Influenza symptoms range from mild to severe. Treatment of Influenza is mainly supportive since this is a viral infection. Respiratory distress may warrant administration of Oxygen and therefore those with severe disease may require admission. Most cases are however mild.

Prevention is mainly through vaccination. However people are also advised to stay warm and eat healthy food rich in vitamins and minerals
