“Still on cloud nine. ☁️🦌🏹

Last Thursday was a day to remember. The rut was on and I’m thankful I was in the right place at the right time.

Around 2:15pm I hear running and grunting. A young buck chasing two doe fly behind me so I whip out the camera and start to record them and before I know it 4 other bucks come busting out of the thicket chasing 2 additional doe. They were running around me like maniacs as I was focusing on the bigger one of the group. I drew maybe twice in that instance making small grunt noises to try to get him to stop and before I knew it they were all gone. All jacked up on adrenaline I stood there waiting and before i knew it they circled back to me. My buck ripped back through. I litterally had to yell at him to stop. He stopped at 10 yards I let one fly and watched him rush off.

Then the shot placement started to play over and over again in my head. I saw about 6” of the arrow sticking out of him as he ran away. It was far back and I started to think I may have put a bad shot on him. In my mind he wasn’t quartering as hard as one would like for an arrow entrance like that. I phoned some friends and got some texts out of the way and started doing my research on a possible deer tracker. An hour later, I got down and could only find a couple stops of blood at 30 and 40 yards. Because of my uncertainly I backed out and went home. After some conversations and some good friends talking me through it, we decided to go back that evening after my friend was out of the woods and the other was back home from work. After finding little drop after little drop, the trail started opening up more and more and there he was. It ended up being a perfect hard quartering away double lung shot which gave me so much relief and excitement. I am thankful for good friends and this gorgeous wide Michigan 7 point Whitetail.

It was an experience of a lifetime. Now we feast! 🥩”

Tuebor Tales with 🦃📜

Team Tuebor on the board! This hunt will be memorable for me, and not just the action of harvesting a turkey. Going back to Christmas, I was handed down my Grandfather’s 12ga Sears Roebuck shotgun. A family heirloom that is 60+ years old and not hunted with in 40. I never met him unfortunately due to his passing before i was born, but feel he was with me today.

I decided to head out for a quick hunt behind the house this evening (Sunday 4/23) to see if I could get lucky and catch a Tom as he headed to roost. I was skunked on opening morning and hadn’t seen anything show up for a couple of days on camera. Even with that recent history I felt something could happen tonight. I started with a call sequence on my new slate call, but had nothing call back. I sat for about 30 minutes and just as I was about to get up and head in (to get my boys ready for bed), I looked through the screen of my blind and saw a black blob. Not being able to tell if it was a bush or turkey I waited… it was a turkey. Two actually. I waited patiently to see if they caught my decoy I had set and sure enough they did. They came in right on a string. I picked out the bigger of the two and as soon as they reached the opening I shot and dropped him in his tracks. It was a short hunt, but one of the coolest hunts I’ve ever had using my grandfathers old gun. Definitely one I will remember the rest of my life.
