What is an AfrOtaku??

I guess if your on this page your one of two types of people. A - you already have an idea of what this word means or B - you have absolutely no clue what this word means and your here to find out. Fear not the goal of this post is to clear that up! So what is an AfrOtaku??

Well let’s start with was is an Otaku. Well I just googled and this popped up- “Otaku is a Japanese term for people with obsessive interests, commonly towards the anime and manga fandom. ”-Almighty Google. In the US its our loving term for Anime/Manga nerds. So lets get into AfrOtaku. An AfrOTaku is the black version of that. Oh! I see you in the back and I know what your question is... “why does there have to be a black version”. Well there doesn’t have to be. This term was strictly created to let other Black Otakus know there not alone. Wait you guys feel alone? Yes! We do...sometimes.

Have you ever been at a con or just in life and met a fellow AfrOtaku and they gave you the cold shoulder? Or reacted in a way that made you think they were scared to get to know you or embarrassed to be black and Otaku? Well I have and honestly I can say I used to be one of those people. I got sick of it. More so I wanted a stronger bond between all of us. So I started a podcast and network to bring us together where we can be ourselves and meet each other. A place where we can talk s**t about Goku in a way we feel comfortable. Whether that means saying why he’s a dead beat dad, why Vegeta is better, or explaining why future Trunks is the realest n***a ever created. All these things we may be able to express to some of our white counterparts but more times than not it requires some code switching (and minimal use of n-word).

So at the end of the day what is an AfrOtaku? Well not only is it a term that describes a Black Otaku. It also represents a community of Black Otakus that can be themselves, enjoy their fandom, and flame the s**t out of each other’s opinions.
