Our social media policy is simple. What to expect from us: Gozamos is an independent online magazine and community of bloggers, progressive activists, and journalists. We write what we are passionate about and bring thoughtful, unorthodox approaches to Latino cultural coverage; original articles and events; as well as timely posts that make us laugh or think (hopefully at the same time) and get a

dialogue going. What we expect from you: Keep it real, keep it respectful, keep it coming, and keep an open mind. Be a payaso, and you’ll need to dodge our virtual chancla.

"Join us as we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1992 UIUC Latina/o/x Student Movement on Sunday, May 1st at 1pm!

In 1992 Latinx students had 12 demands that were not addressed by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. On Cinco de Mayo the students decided to take over the Henry Administration building to leverage power structures not accessible to them. This community event is to commemorate our collective power. Today we have a Latina/o Studies Program and have increased some measures for Latinx students on campus. Let's also define what is possible for the future! “It is foolish to attack a race of people and not all of the issues affecting the society in which we live. This includes racism," Frazier said in a statement. ”The members of the Great Sioux Nation who visit our sacred Black Hills are often subject to this kind of behavior. Those members that choose to live on our treaty territory are often treated as a problem, no matter how we choose to live."

WEDNESDAY AT 6PM! Learn what it's like to serve on a school board.

School board members are vital representatives of our community, making critical decisions about the future of the next generation, including:

✅ ensuring ALL kids get the best education possible
✅ setting the standard for what is expected of teachers, students, families, and superintendents
✅ recruiting, hiring, supporting, and evaluating staff entrusted with our children
✅ implementing equitable policies that establish a safe, accessible and thriving school environment
✅ approving curriculum our kids learn
✅ managing district finances to ensure a sustainable future

Only 3% of school board members in the nation are Latinx and this panel features TWO Latina members!

Join us THIS Wednesday at 6pm on FB LIVE for a powerful conversation on what it means to truly serve as a board member!

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of three amazing board members, Elizabeth Ojeda-Jimenez SD100, Norma Hernandez Triton College Board and Adam Mounce D98.

Community member and civic leader Rocio Hernandez will also be moderating the panel.

Please share this event with your friends/family, neighbors and folks who may want to learn more about school board work.

The discussion will be recorded and a Spanish translation will be uploaded at a later date.
