: Bollywood fans have been left without access to hundreds of their favorite songs on Spotify due to a licensing dispute with Zee Music - India’s second-biggest domestic music label.

Fans have taken to Twitter to voice their frustrations as Spotify spokesperson told CNN that the company has tried to “find a creative ways to strike a deal” and would continue to negotiate in good faith.

✈️: Air India announced Tuesday (Feb 14) that the newly-privatized commercial airliner will be placing orders for 470 Boeing and Airbus aircrafts, underlining the surging demand for increased mobility in a nation with a swelling middle class 🇮🇳 🚀

Air India is ordering 220 Boeing aircraft valued at $34 billion. It is Boeing's third largest sale of all time, in dollar value, and its second of all time in quantity.

This purchase will support over 1 million American jobs across 44 states, and many will not require a four-year college degree, said President Joe Biden. "This announcement also reflects the strength of the U.S.-India economic partnership. Together with Prime Minister Modi, I look forward to deepening our partnership even further as we continue to confront shared global challenges—creating a more secure and prosperous future for all of our citizens.” 🇺🇸 🇮🇳

Air India, India’s largest international carrier and second-largest domestic carrier, is seeking to reinvent itself by expanding its operations and modernizing its fleet. The new jets will help Tata compete against India’s dominant carrier, IndiGo.

: A pendant worn by, and said to be a favorite of, the late Princess Diana has a new famous owner: Kim Kardashian.

The piece — called the Attallah cross and consisting of square-cut amethysts, circular-cut diamond accents and flowery details — came at a hefty price. According to a press release from Sotheby's, the reality star spent $197,453 on the pendant at the fine arts company's auction Wednesday.

"It is understood that the cross was only ever worn by the Princess, and following her death, it was never seen in public again until now," the release states.

K-POP FEVER 🥵: BTS mania has reached new l heights across the globe. Two Pakistani teenagers were found in Lahore, more than 750 miles from their home, a week after being reported missing.

The two girls, aged 13 and 14, planned to travel to South Korea to meet BTS as they were "extremely inspired by the band," the police official said.

In a video statement obtained by CNN, Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police Abraiz Ali Abbasi said that while searching the teens' homes, police found a diary that revealed their plans to go to South Korea, including train timetables.

Authorities advised parents to "monitor" their children's online activities.

WASHINGTON DC 📰 : Indian-Americans who constitute only about 1% of the US population pay about 6% of taxes, a Congressman from Georgia Rich McCormick told his Congressional colleagues on the House floor Thursday (Jan 12).

“I rise to this occasion to appreciate my constituents, especially those who have immigrated from India. We have a very large portion of my community that’s made up of almost 100,000 people who have immigrated directly from India,” he said.

According to the American Community Survey (2019), Asian Americans are the highest earning ethnic group in the US earning about $87k per household.

Diving even deeper, among Asian Americans, Indian Americans are the highest earners making about $126,700 on average per household, which would also attest to paying more in taxes.

“One out of every five doctors in my community are from India. They represent some of the best citizens we have in America, we should make sure that we streamline the immigration process for those who come here to obey the law and pay their taxes and be the most creative and productive in society,” McCormick said.

: American Girl unveiled its 2023 Girl of the Year on Thursday (Jan. 5th) and in a brand first, the title goes to a doll by the name of Kavi Sharma 🇮🇳

Kavi - an Indian American girl from New Jersey, loves to sing, dance and hang out with her friends. Just a short train ride away, her favorite place to visit is New York City — specifically Broadway. Kavi, who takes weekly classical Indian dance classes, and her tight-knit family also celebrate their culture through holidays, food and clothing.

“As we ring in a new year, we’re excited to have Kavi Sharma take center stage in our popular Girl of the Year lineup,” Jamie Cygielman, general manager of American Girl, said in a news release. “Just like all our beloved characters, Kavi’s culturally relevant and aspirational stories help inspire kids to shine bright in their own way and be proud of who they are.”

VELMA 🔍: We all remember Velma from the classic Scooby-Doo cartoons right?

The clever mystery solver will soon be starring in her very own HBO Max animated series.

However, don’t let her light-hearted beginnings fool you, because this show is not for kids. The Velma animated series is being promoted as an adult animated series that combines horror with comedy.

This new series was developed by Charlie Grandy, with Mindy Kaling serving as an executive producer. Kaling also voices the title character. Grandy and Kaling have worked together on various projects over the years, such as The Office and The Mindy Project.

Part of modernizing the show meant looking at it through a 2022 lens. In this series Shaggy will be black, Daphne will be Asian, and Velma will be Indian 🇮🇳

Kaling went on to explain to Popverse, that once she realized the show would be animated it opened up the possibilities in her mind. “Why not make the character Indian? We've been so inspired by Into the Spider-Verse and seeing these other characters - why don't we try that?”

Velma’s Indian heritage is something she shares with her voice actress Mindy Kaling. “I love this opportunity I have now to be able to have representation of modern Indian American teens,” Kaling said. “There is not a lot of representation of Indian American girls in 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s animation. And so what I loved about that character, she's the closest to what I can see. Smart, A-student, thick glasses that are always falling off, and skeptical. She has a lot of these amazing qualities, so as a kid watching the reruns of the original Scooby-Doo I felt like, 'Man I really identify with this character.' I love that she exists.”

Velma will premiere with two episodes on HBO Max on Jan. 12, followed by two episodes weekly 📺

YRF SPY UNIVERSE 🎬: That’s right, is all one big spy universe and we’re just living in it.

Over the last couple years, Yash Raj Films has been quietly building a Marvel-esq. blockbuster universe based around a series of action-thriller films that feature RAW agents as the main protagonists.

According to Yash Raj reps, 2012’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, starring Salman Khan was the first installment of the universe followed by its sequel, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ in 2017.

Hrithik Roshan’s character ‘Kabir’ from the recent 2019 blockbuster ‘War’ is also a part of this spy universe.

It is rumored that ‘Pathaan’ will be the first film to have characters appearing from both Tiger and War franchises.

: A chef from Glasgow, who claims to have invented the curry dish chicken tikka masala, has died at the age of 77, a family member told AFP on Wednesday.

Ali Ahmed Aslam is said to have come up with the dish in the 1970s when a customer asked if there was a way of making his chicken tikka less dry.

His solution was to add a creamy tomato sauce, in some versions of the story a can of tomato soup.

His death was announced by his Shish Mahal restaurant which closed for 48 hours as a mark of respect 🕊️

After nine top-5 finishes at the PNC Championship, including a trio of runner-ups, Vijay Singh and his son Qass have finally claimed the Willie Park Trophy, a red leather belt with sterling silver embellishments that’s similar to the original championship prize of the British Open.

The Singhs shot 59-59 to become the first team to shoot two sub-60 rounds in PNC history. They won $200,000 for their efforts.

“Everybody said to come here and have a good time,” said Vijay. “I have fun too, but we all want to win.”

: Desi kids don’t show this to your parents. A Sanskrit grammatical problem which has perplexed scholars since the 5th Century BC has been solved by a University of Cambridge PhD student.

Rishi Rajpopat, 27, decoded a rule taught by Panini, a master of the ancient language who lived around 2,500 years ago.

Mr Rajpopat said he had "a eureka moment in Cambridge" after spending nine months "getting nowhere".

"I closed the books for a month and just enjoyed the summer - swimming, cycling, cooking, praying and meditating," he said.

“Then, begrudgingly I went back to work, and, within minutes, as I turned the pages, these patterns starting emerging, and it all started to make sense.”

Sanskrit, although not widely spoken, is the sacred language of Hinduism and has been used in India's science, philosophy, poetry and other secular literature over the centuries.
