Ginpahayag ni Gobernador Eugenio Jose Lacson nga ginakonsiderar ang pagdeklarar sang state of calamity sa Negros Occidental matapos ang pagputok sang Bulkang Kanlaon sa Lunes, Disyembre 9.

Ginsiling sang gobernador nga ang pagdeklarar sang state of calamity magahatag sang kahigayunan sa probinsyal nga gobyerno nga magamit ang Quick Response Fund sini.

Nagpaandam man ang gobernador sa mga residente nga apektado nga lugar nga magsunod sa mga mando sang mga otoridad agud masiguro ang ila safety.

Ginpahayag niya nga nagpadala ang probinsyal nga gobyerno sang mga bus agud magbulig sa paglikas sang mga residente.

Suno kay Irene Belle Ploteña, head sang Provincial Disaster Management Program Division, naghatag man ang probinsyal nga gobyerno sang hot meals sa mga evacuees sa Bago kag La Castellana.*

KANLAON RESPONSE.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian arrives in Negros Occidental to look into the situation of the affected families following the eruption of Mount Kanlaon.

Joining the Secretary are Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG), Usec. Diana Rose Cajipe, DSWD Field Office VI Regional Director Arwin O. Razo, Disaster Response Management Division Chief Erlyn L. Garcia, and DSWD Field Office VII Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero.

Collaborating with Local Government Units, monitoring the situation of evacuees, and overseeing disaster response operations are the priorities for the visit./dswd6/AJ Ambos

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian arrived at the Bago City Hall today, December 10, for a coordination meeting with local officials and to oversee the situation following the eruption of Mount Kanlaon yesterday afternoon.

Vice Mayor Ramon Torres, together with Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, 4th District Board Members Andrew Martin Torres and Joeben Alonso, 5th District Congressman Dino Yulo, and representatives from various agencies were also present.

Bangod in-demand sa karon ang Facemasks ang DOH nakipag-angot naman sa Department of Trade and Industry agud mabantayan ang mga tindahan nga nagabaligya sang overpriced nga mga Facemasks.

Suno kay DTI Negros Occidental Chief Trade-Industry Development Specialist kag Division Chief Engiemar Tupas, may yara nagakaangay nga penalidad sa kung sin-o man nga madakpan.

TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

A new era for Filipinos dawned on December 10, 1898 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris through which Spain ceded the Philippines, its colony for over 300 years, to the United States for US$ 20 million.

The Peace Commission consisting of American and Spanish delegates met in Paris from October to December that year to discuss the terms of the treaty.

Much of their discussions focused on legal points and both sides maintained their respective hard-lined stand on the matter.

The Americans eventually prevailed following Washington's order to ensure Spain's cession of the entire Philippines. Such cession placed the country under American control.

Still, the U.S. agreed on allowing for 10 years entry of Spanish exports into the Philippines.

The Treaty of Paris did not go into effect immediately as several U.S. senators believed this accord was unfair to Filipinos.

However, the rise of Filipino-American hostilities on February 4, 1899 eventually led many of such legislators to vote in favor of the treaty. This change happened as they believed the propaganda that Filipinos initiated the hostilities.

Aside from ceding the Philippines, the Treaty of Paris required Spain's surrender of Puerto Rico and Guam to the U.S. The same treaty also required Spain to relinquish its rights to Cuba.
