Caution for all of our Wairarapa commuters tomorrow! MetService has issued a Road Snowfall Warning for Remutaka Hill Road (SH2) from 12pm to 7pm tomorrow (Tuesday 17 September). Rain turning to snow above 400 metres on Tuesday afternoon.

Sadly it wasn't to be for the Kea in 2024 but a big congratulations to Team Hoiho for taking the crown for Bird of the Year 2024!

Thank you to everyone who voted Kea as we turn our attention to focus on a strong 2025 campaign.

BREAKING: The hoiho yellow-eyed penguin has come from behind to snag the top perch for for a 2nd time! The hoiho won last in 2019 and joins the kākāpō in being the only birds to win twice.

Unlike last year this year's race was a lot closer with just under 1000 votes (and not like half a million) between the hoiho and the runner up, the karure black robin. Congrats to Tūhura Otago Museum for assembling an outstanding campaign team from across Dunedin.

A huge thanks to all of you who campaigned and voted for your favourite birds, and also all of you who chipped in to support Forest & Bird.
