Steven King (he/him) aka Carrier is East Coast electronic music explorer of many genres, and today we have released a new track. Tāwhirimātea started life as an improv live performance recorded at the opening of “Tāwhirimātea’s Battle” A group exhibition of Tairāwhiti artists to commemorate “one year on from Cyclone Gabriel”

Through slow and rumbling evolution Carrier explores the impact of Human interaction with the environment and the catastrophic consequences that this can cause as realised in the Tairāwhiti region. An ominous and brooding meditation from an artist deeply impacted by the very present promised future.

Em and I first met sometime in the 90's and Emma actually followed my footsteps somewhat working in Espressoholic.. Around 5 or so years ago we reconnected through an old school Friend that Emma ended up working with.

We essentially bonded again through Life, comedy, memes, Children and of course music and my mixes, especially my old 'Kool Out Vibes' mixes and it was always such a joy to receive a message from her "Hey J, currently checking out K.O.V. 5 while I cook dinner and loving it" and while I still struggle to understand why she can't be here in the physical to enjoy this,
I just know that Emma will be loving this and will understand it's my own way of saying goodbye. Being Friends with Emma was a wonderful journey and that's was this mix is.

I hope you all enjoy it.

RIP to a beautiful soul. Until we meet again trooper.

Black Mountain Transmissions is an audio series which focuses on long-form atmospheric dubs, recorded in a single key and with a consistent BPM.

Inspired by the intricate patterns found within a microwave circuit board, the project will feature ever evolving tracks that journey through the depths of industrial dub, infused with pulsating basslines, shimmering melodies and uplifting tonal moments.

The second instalment in the series is the hour-long Super Sentient, awash with cinematic flourishes, with swooping synths snarling and soaring over militant rhythms while melodies float on cavernous soundbeds before dissolving in to space..

The track was originally conceived for a live quadrophonic set in the After Dark zone at Splore Festival, Aotearoa on February 24th 2024. It was further developed at the Super Sentient ambient festival on March 9th 2024.

The bones of the live show were then further manipulated in the studio, where Super Sentient, named after the festival, took on other dimensions, absorbing experimental live elements as the dub process evolved.

Black Mountain Transmissions looks set to perfectly compliment my Translations remix series, allowing me to further explore the sonic universe free of constraints.
