Saturday’s feature game was between Petone and Old Boys University at Hataitai Park. A tight tussle saw Petone win the Marc Verhoeven Memorial Trophy by 19-10. First half tries to flyhalf Richard Evans and second-five Riley Higgins put Petone up 14-0, before a Callum Harkin penalty and try to new captain Kyle Preston saw OBU cut the deficit to 14-10 at halftime. The second half was tense and the try that won the match saw Higgins break up the middle before finding his Hurricanes U20 teammate and No. 8 Peter Lakai (Below) in support.

Massive result for Marist St Pats women beating Norths for the first time 41-5. Norths have won the Wellington women's championship 15 times. Marist have never won it. Hurricanes Poua star Georgia Daals came off the bench and scored three tries. Commentators Adam Julian and Brad Hudson spoke to Georgia last year.

Paremata-Plimmerton are Pharaohs of Round One of the Swindale Shield. Their 43-18 victory over Avalon sees them at the top of the table for the first time ever. The win snapped a 20-game losing streak in which they lost by an average of 47-12. Pai e Tama!

The E Tu Whānau Footy Show is back in 2022.Today the Swindale Shield kicks off with reigning champions Old Boys University Rugby Club hosting Petone Rugby at the neutral venue off Hataitai Park. Coverage starts at 2:00pm with kickoff at 2:45pm. Gordon Noble-Campbell with the call.
