Presidential Aide Hails Olukoyede's Ongoing Reform in EFCC

The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters in the office of the Vice President, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede on his steady reform in the Commission in spite of attendant challenges.

He gave this commendation on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the EFCC Management Retreat while making a presentation themed “Making a Success of the Anti -Corruption War in the Face of Daunting Challenges”.

The Presidential aide admitted that the weak and disjointed value system in the country has made it easy for corruption to strive but commended Olukoyede for making impact in spite of all the handicaps.

He called on anti-corruption agencies to collaborate more and build stronger energy and synergy against corrupt practices, stressing that enhanced public awareness would do more in tackling the menace of economic and financial crimes. “We must widely intensify public awareness on the damage of corruption because we cannot defeat poverty and insecurity unless we defeat corruption”, he said.

He also stressed the need for public ownership of the fight against corruption, maintaining that Olukoyede’s leadership of the EFCC would do the nation greater good. “I equally believe that there is a need to have a strong public presence where the Commission can garnish support from honest and patriotic Nigerians, I strongly believe that the leadership of your Chairman will succeed”, he said.

He specifically called for the establishment of special courts to deal with corruption cases to enhance accelerated resolution of cases and help the Commission achieve its mandate.

In his response, Olukoyede appreciated Baba-Ahmed for the advice and encouragement, he further stated that with the support of everyone, EFCC will succeed. “The challenge may be daunting and I believe if we are resolute, more people will support us.

The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 arraigned one Ukwueze Chidera Matthew before Justice F. O. GOV OTTI, STATE ASSEMBLY EX-SPEAKERS TOUR ROAD CONSTRUCTION SITES IN ABA, EXPRESS SATISFACTION

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has charged contractors handling various road projects in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state, to increase their pace in order to complete their work before the rains set in fully.

Governor Otti gave the directive on Friday while inspecting several roads being reconstructed by the State Government in Aba and its environs.

The Governor was accompanied on the tour of the project sites by former Speakers of the Abia State House of Assembly, who visited him under the auspices of the Conference of Former Speakers of Abia State.

Addressing crowds of excited residents, who beseiged him at the various stops he made, Governor Otti described the roads as strategic and of economic importance and implored the contractors to move faster and complete them for use before the rains fully kick in.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the contractors to deliver the roads according to specifications and applauded them for the good job they have done so far. He also thanked the residents and shop owners, who live and do business in the areas for their support and cooperation with the contractors.

"The contractors are trying but I want them to do more because I don't want the rains to meet them here. They have the capacity and I know they can achieve that.

"I want to thank you for supporting the contractors, giving them all the maximum cooperation. I also want to thank you for going through all the inconveniences to ensure this road is done to the highest standard," the Governor said, adding that the essence of the inspection was to ensure that the contractors comply with specifications and to see the level of works done so far.

Speaking on behalf of the former Speakers, Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka, who was Abia State Assembly Speaker during former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu's administration (1999-2007), said though the former Speak

I Ventured Into Uber Business To Feed My Family Abroad– Femi Brainard

Actor Femi Brainard shared his experience
living abroad as a Nigerian Celebrity.
He narrated his experience during an interview with Teju Oyelakin, also known as Teju Babyface, on his podcast.

Brainard explained the advantages and disadvantages of relocating, emphasising that it’s preferable to be esteemed and respected in Nigeria rather than becoming anonymous abroad.

He also said that his wife did not like the idea of living abroad.
While speaking with the comedian, Brainard noted that anytime he is driving, his Nigerian passengers in particular can’t help but stare at him in disbelief and wonder if he is the star they know.

The actor added that the curious ones would approach him to be sure he was the famous actor they knew in Nigeria.

Brainard said the bills are a lot and he has things like rent to think about while explaining that he was so broke to an extent that he went to the parking lot and burst into tears.

He said: “At times it would be so hard, I no go get Money for hand.
That day I went to the parking lot of our apartment, I cried, na me bring this woman here.
Yankee no know star o… I had to feed my family. I know these couple from the airport, the husband was like, ‘ask him if he is Femi Brainard and I said yes. The husband didn’t know when he reached at me and asked ‘bros what are you doing here”.
“As difficult as Nigeria seems to be, I would rather be a prince and a celebrity in a system that is not working than come to this place and be a nobody.
I am still bothered about rent.”

Why I don’t consider my failed marriages as failure – Funke Akindele

Nollywood producer, Funke Akindele has shared her thoughts about failures and why she doesn’t consider her crashed marriages as such.

In an interview with Wazobia FM, Lagos, Akindele explained that her mother taught her early in life that without failure, there can’t be success.

According to her, she just takes marriage “as it comes” while stressing how important her mental health and career are.

The actress added that her purpose is to live a meaningful life, inspire the younger generation and be there for her children and siblings.

She said, “If you ask me now can you tell me one failure, I don’t see it as a failure. My personal life – marriage, I just take it as it comes. My mental health is very important. My career is very important, darling.

“I have to make an impact. I have to empower a lot of people. I have to inspire young people out there. I have to stay strong for my children and my siblings. Why am I living? I have a purpose, so my head is up. Yes I cry, yes I break down, but after I cry, I just look in the mirror and say, ‘keep moving,’” Funke Akindele said.

10/01/2024

Ede State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu said, Obaseki was unknown, I gave him the structures needed, I feel betrayed he’s not supporting me.

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu has said he feels betrayed by his principal, Godwin Obaseki, for not supporting his 2024 governorship bid.

Shaibu stated this in an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, January 10.

“I feel betrayed by the governor. I feel very betrayed. When we go to church, there are certain biblical verses that are becoming to make meaning to me. There is this particular verse that has been going through my mind: ‘The heart of man is desperately wicked.’ When I see what the governor is doing, the verse now makes meaning to me,” he said

Claiming that he was persuaded to be the deputy governor to Obaseki, Shaibu said he added value to Obaseki’s government with political structure and finances.

“Actually, I was persuaded and there was no protest. I actually didn’t want to be a deputy governor. I was very comfortable in the House of Representatives. It took almost one month to get me to accept to be the deputy governor of Edo State. I accepted to add value to the ticket of Obaseki because Obaseki was not known and he was not one of the politicians. They needed a young, vibrant politician that has won election before and that can add political value to the ticket.”

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant said he was hurt that Obaseki was supporting ‘an outsider’ instead of him.

“I added value in terms of my political structure, my finances. All the vehicles that were used to campaign in 2016 are mine. I lost about 20% of my political capital in Edo North to support Godwin Obaseki, and in supporting him even as deputy governor. I supported the second term bid of the governor with my finances. Including how we got the ticket of the PDP, I contributed financially, both in naira and in dollars. If I say betrayal, it’s an understatement. I feel very hurt and betrayed.” he said

Man accused of knifepoint NYC r**e sprung on supervised release due to technicality
By Social Links forJoe Marino , Social Links forKyle Schnitzer and Social Links for Amanda Woods

A Brooklyn man accused of ra**ng a woman while his accomplice held two others at knifepoint was sprung on supervised release this week on a technicality, The Post has learned.

Mohammed Izzeddin, 22 – who cops say r**ed a 49-year-old woman inside an unnamed business near Ninth Avenue and 59th Street in Borough Park on Dec. 23 – was let go Wednesday after a judge ruled that prosecutors didn’t file an indictment on time, law enforcement sources and Izzeddin’s lawyer said.

“He ruled that there was a violation, so he had no choice but to release him on [his own recognizance] or supervised release,” Izzeddin’s lawyer, Lance Lazzaro said.

“So he chose supervised release. His hands are tied at that point.”

The violation stems from Section 180.80 in New York State Criminal Procedure Law – which requires that the District Attorney’s Office file an indictment no later than six days after someone is placed in custody.

Lazzaro argued that the DA missed the deadline because the 180.80 countdown clock should have started earlier than it was initially set at his client’s arraignment – and Judge Christopher Robles agreed.

His client wasn’t formally charged until around 1 p.m. on Dec. 28, but the countdown should have started the day before – because Izzeddin was already in police custody at 3 a.m. that morning, the attorney said.

Whenever an arrest is made before 9 a.m. on a given date, the law states that the technical arrest date is the day before, which applies to this case, Lazzaro said..............
