On Thursday, May 2nd 2024, the African Studies Students Association (ASSA) held its first congress for the 2022/2023 academic session. Held at the Drapers Hall, Institute of African Studies, the Congress convened to appraise the “The Dollar Gossip" event, held on the 24th of April, 2024, as part of the association’’s Village Square gathering.

Held at the Suzanne Wenger Garden of the Institute of African Studies, the event, which was titled “Dollar Gossip”, brought together faculty members, invited guests, and representatives from student organizations like the Indy Press, the Christopher Okigbo Press Club and the University Kegite Club.

In his opening address, the President of the African Studies Students Association, Mr Awoyemi Michael Ayomide, hinted that inasmuch as the event was an opportunity for students to enjoy themselves and get to meet one another, it was also a time to consider the very deep questions of patriotism which the naira crash against the dollar has implicated.
