Gen Z's 2024 Slogan: 'No Gree for Anybody' Advocates Caution Amidst Refusal Culture - *Peter Olasupo (Captain P2)*

The slogan for this year, 2024, as concluded by Gen Z is "No Gree for anybody." While it's essential not to accept anything that undermines our intelligence, it's crucial to exercise caution in specific situations. Refusing to yield to unjust demands or manipulation is essential, but it's also important to be mindful of contexts. Resist the pressure to say "No gree for anybody" in circumstances where it might have adverse consequences, especially concerning your employment or legal matters. Assess situations carefully before taking a stand and ensure it's appropriate and strategic. Wisdom lies in choosing the right time and place to assert your refusal.

Is Politics a lucrative business in Nigeria or not?

Politics as Big Business: The Nigerian Perspective

In Nigeria, the intersection of politics and business is not just a mere coincidence; it's a well-established reality. The concept of politics as a business has been deeply ingrained in the nation's political landscape for decades, with politicians often serving as entrepreneurs in their own right. In this article, we will explore the various facets of this complex relationship and how it has shaped Nigeria's political and economic landscape.

The Business of Politics

Nigeria, often dubbed the "Giant of Africa," is known for its vast reserves of natural resources, including oil. This abundance of resources has made politics a highly profitable endeavor. Politicians vie for positions of power not only to serve the public but also to gain access to the country's wealth. Elections become lucrative investments, where the returns often outweigh the campaign expenses.

1. Campaign Financing:
Running for political office in Nigeria requires substantial financial resources. Candidates must fund campaign rallies, advertisements, and voter mobilization efforts. The significant financial backing needed has given rise to a class of wealthy "godfathers" who finance aspiring politicians in exchange for future favors.

2. Patronage Networks:
Patronage is a fundamental aspect of Nigerian politics. Politicians often form networks of supporters, ranging from local leaders to business tycoons, who help fund their campaigns. In return, these backers expect influence and access to lucrative government contracts and resources once their candidate wins.

3. Corruption and Mismanagement:
Nigeria has grappled with corruption for years, with politicians at the center of many scandals. The pursuit of wealth and power often leads to mismanagement of public funds and the diversion of resources away from essential public services.

MY SATURDAY
Today was quite an eventful day for me! It all started at home, as I got ready to head to my alma mata, Adelagun Memorial Grammar School, for the old students' general meetings. It's always great to represent my set, reconnect with old seniors and reminisce about the good old days.

After the meetings, one of our beloved seniors (mum) from the 1985 set took us out to enjoy a delicious meal of Amala, Abula, and Ogunfe at one eatery. The flavors brought back so many memories of our school days.

From there, I joined in on the fun as the Ibadan branch chairman Dr. Kunle Busari treated us to some drinks. Personally, I'm a fan of soft drinks, so that hit the spot for me!

After our delightful meal and drinks, it was back to the office for me. I had to present "Awake with OOK," an agricultural-related program. It's been a busy week, balancing work and fun, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I must mention that as soon as I reached the office, it started to rain. But, as they say, I serve a living God, and it didn't dampen my spirits one bit.

Here's to more days filled with such a wonderful blend of nostalgia, good food, and fulfilling work!

Good night.

Warm regards,

AN OPEN LETTER TO NIGERIA’S LEADERS: FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE AND A CONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT.

Dear Esteemed Leaders of Nigeria,

I write to you today as a concerned citizen who shares a deep love for our great nation. Nigeria is a land of immense potential, and its people are resilient, resourceful, and hopeful. Yet, we stand at a critical juncture in our history, where the aspirations of our citizens for good governance, security, and equal opportunities must be met.

Our nation has witnessed its fair share of challenges, but it is within these challenges that we find opportunities for transformation. It is with this hope that I implore you, our leaders, to rise to the occasion and steer Nigeria toward a brighter future.

We understand the complexities of governance, but we also know that it is possible to create an environment where justice, accountability, and transparency are not just buzzwords but the pillars upon which our nation stands.

Here are some heartfelt appeals from the citizens:

1. **Good Governance:** We implore you to prioritize good governance that focuses on the well-being of every Nigerian. Ensure that our resources are used judiciously for the benefit of all, and that corruption is rooted out at all levels of government.

2. **Security:** The safety of our citizens should be paramount. We call for a concerted effort to address the security challenges facing our nation, making our streets and homes safe once again.

3. **Economic Opportunities:** Create an environment that fosters economic growth and job creation. Empower our youth with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive and contribute to the nation's development.

4. **Education and Healthcare:** Invest in quality education and accessible healthcare for all Nigerians. These are the foundations of a prosperous and healthy society.

5. **Unity and Inclusivity:** Promote unity and inclusivity among all ethnic and religious groups. Nigeria's diversity is its strength, and it should be celebrated and protected.

6. **Infrastructure Development:** Prioritize infrastructure development, including roads, electricity, and clean water, to improve the living conditions of our citizens.

Dear fellow Nigerians,

In the wake of the Presidential Election Tribunal Judgment yesterday, let us come together as one nation, united in our commitment to peace and progress. Regardless of our individual political affiliations (though I’m apolitical), let us remember that we are all citizens of this great country.

The election process is a cornerstone of our democracy, and the Tribunal's decision is a reflection of that process. It is essential that we respect the rule of law and allow the legal system to work as it should.

Now is the time for unity, understanding, and dialogue. Let us put aside our differences and work together to build a brighter future for Nigeria. Our diversity is our strength, and our shared love for this nation should always be our guiding light.

In the spirit of unity, let us promote peace, tolerance, and harmony in our communities. Let us engage in constructive discussions and seek common ground for the betterment of our beloved Nigeria.

Together, we can overcome any challenges that lie ahead and continue on the path towards a more prosperous and peaceful nation.

May peace and unity prevail in Nigeria.

Yours in Service to humanity,

Peter Olasupo

I had an interview with Omoyele Sowore last Friday. I quizzed him on several issues and Sowore didn’t hesitate to bare his mind on “ShegeCrazy” meted out on Nigerians by President Tinubu.

He also narrated his experience while in DSS custody (said he had conversations with Boko-Haram commander)

Politics is fluid; dynamic and multifaceted so is that of Oyo State as demonstrated by political gladiators in various parties in the 2023 General Election.

This week on , I narrowed down my searchlight on the All-Progressives Congress (APC), a one-time ruling party in the state which fell from glory as it were due to internal rumblings of so called Jagba politics.

Beyond the rhetorics and media propaganda obtainable at that time, I probed further on contentious issues with an insider and former governorship aspirant, Barrister Akeem Agbaje, who lost to Senator Teslim Folarin in the party's primary.

Elections may be over, however Barr Akeem Agbaje seems to have some scores to settle with the three time Federal lawmaker, Sen Teslim Folarin. He also bared his mind on other issues both local and national.

Recently, Osun state was in the news for an upheaval event surrounding the debacle between Governor Ademola Adeleke and Ajibola Basiru, a former senator over praying position during the Eid celebration prompting many to demand that leaders show respectable conduct of their affairs in public meeting.

Of course, the narrative pushed forward initially was an assassination attempt on the governor's life and how he escaped, however such report lacked sufficient information.

Aside this muscle flexing, there are more pertinent matters to discuss like the delay in the nomination of commissioners since the swearing-in of the governor last year as well as the controversy around the appointment of near cousin.

These and many more topics surrounding Osun State politics and governance in general were our focus on at the start of the week with my guest, an ex-military cadet & a former gubernatorial aspirant in the 2018 & 2023 elections in Osun State, Prince Solomon Ayodeji Eniola Oni
