Missing seven-year-old boy found dead in Kano

A seven-year-old boy, Khalifa Saminu Saleh, was found dead six days after he was reported missing in the Kuruma community, Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State.



According to Punch, Saleh's lifeless body was discovered at a canal in the community on Monday morning, April 8, 2024.
Khalifa’s distressing disappearance prompted an intensive and extensive search effort initiated by concerned authorities and residents. The incident was reported to the Rano Police Station in Kano. A resident who preferred anonymity said Khalifa was last seen on his way to the mosque to perform Salatul Tarawih prayers, a routine he was committed to as the mosque was situated near his family’s home.



"I know the boy very well; he is about seven years old and lives with his parents. His father, Alhaji Saminu Saleh, is a young businessman in Rano town,” the source told the publication.



Khalifa’s devastated father, Alhaji Saminu Saleh, expressed shock over the sudden death of his son.



He called for thorough investigations to determine and unravel the circumstances that led to his son’s disappearance and subsequent death.

Saudi Arabia Declares Wednesday Eid-el-fitr, Says Fasting Continue

The Saudi Arabia, on Monday, said the crescent of Shawwal has not been sighted, indicating that the fasting will continue on Tuesday.

It also added that the Eid-El-Fitr would hold on Wednesday, April 10 to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.

This disclosure was made on Haramin’s official page, an official platform for the Muslim community across the world.

“The crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.

“May Allāh allow us to utilise the remaining moments of this blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him, may He accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl & may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn,” it wrote.

However, Nigerian Muslims are expected to wait for the announcement of the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sa’ad Abubakar, later in the day.

The PUNCH reports that the Sultan on Sunday called on Muslims across the nation to look out for the new moon marking the beginning of Shawwal 1445 AH.

In a statement by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council in Sokoto, Sambo Wali, he urged individuals who spot the new moon to promptly inform the relevant authorities.

“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, , the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement reads.

Man Arrested For Stabbing Brother To Death

Operatives attached to Township Police Divisional headquarters have arrested Isyaku Babale 'm' aged 30 years old of Anguwan Dawaki, for an alleged culpable homicide.

The suspect was arrested following a report received by the Divisional Police Officer, Township Police Station Bauchi. Detectives from the division were drafted to the scene immediately. They rushed the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) but was certified dead by a medical doctor.

Therefore, this development prompted the detectives to initiate a manhunt for the suspect. Consequently, the suspect was traced and apprehended near Kasuwan Shanu area of Bauchi metropolis.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the detectives attached revealed that the suspect used a knife and stabbed his biological elder brother on the 31st March 2024 at about 0400hrs after an argument that ensued between them. The altercation started when the younger brother (suspect) asked his elder brother (victim) to stop taking Cold Patch liquid popularly known as 'Sholi' in their room because of the unpleasant odour of the liquid. Both of them became furious with each other and began fighting. Shortly after a mediation, the suspect ran and picked a sharp object suspected to be a knife and stabbed the victim in his stomach. Further investigations revealed that both the suspect and the victim used to engage in fighting with involving dangerous weapons against each other.

The Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, psc, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident to unravel more motives behind the action of the suspect and be charged to court for prosecution.

JUSTICE Sanusi Ado Ma’aji of Kano state high court sitting at Miller road, Bompai, has found Quandong Geng, a Chinese national, guilty of killing his girlfriend, Ummulkusum Sani Buhari (Ummita). Geng had invaded the residence of Ummita in September 2022 and stabbed her to death during an argument. He had fled the scene but was subsequently arrested by the police and arraigned. During cross examination in court, he had said Ummita broke his heart by getting married to another person as he had plans of settling down with her. Geng added that when they started preparation for their wedding, he bought her wedding dresses worth N1.5 million, sweets and other dresses they will wear on their wedding day and ‘Asoebi’ for her friends and N700,000 new notes for spraying on the wedding day. I went to Sokoto to see her family members where I spent N700,000. “On the 13th September 2022, she requested some money to be used in the house she is building in Abuja but I didn’t give her because I don’t have money then. “Since then, she stopped answering my calls because she thought I am broke. He said Ummita deceived him and got married to another person but continued to request money from him and there was a time she came to Kano, and she made sure that they met. He had said, “Besides huge amounts of money I used to spend on her, I used to take her out to places like Bristol Palace and Central Hotel to eat food. “I bought her house worth N4 million, a car worth N10 million. N18 million as capital to start business, and spent N500,000 worth of bags and shoes on her new shop and N1 million worth of laces and wrappers and a house in Abuja which she started building.” He added that he bought her gold wears worth N5 million, N6 million to go and process her certificate at Sokoto University and N1 million to install the solar system in their house. On Tuesday, the judge convicted Geng and sentenced him to death.

Katsina Bandits Kill Alhaji Lado During Ramadan Prayers

Bandits kill Alhaji Lado Mairuwa, abduct wife, 2 daughters

Bandits struck in Mairuwa village, Faskari local government area of Katsina State, on Saturday night, killing worshippers observing Ramadan prayers.

At least two persons were shot dead while another sustained injury during the attack.

Daily Trust gathered that one of the deceased persons was a prominent man simply identified as Alhaji Lado.

He was suspected to be the prime target of the assailants.

A source who described the deceased as a businessman, politician and large scale farmer, said the victim was killed when he refused to take orders from his murderers.

“They opened fire on him when they attempted to kidnap him but he refused to follow them,” the source said.

One of the survivors of the mosque attack told our reporter that the attackers kidnapped the wife and two daughters of Alhaji Lado.

An eye witness told our reporter that the other victim of the attack was a health worker he simply identified as Sani.

He worked at the Mairuwa Health Facility,” the witness said.

Katsina is one of the worst-hit states of banditry. Many attempts to keep the criminals in check have not yielded desired result.

Kuriga School Children, Who Were Kidnapped By Bandits, Have Been Released

In the name of Allah the Beneficient, the Most Merciful, I wish to announce that our Kuriga school children have been released.

Our special appreciation goes to our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for prioritizing the safety and security of Nigerians and particularly ensuring that the abducted Kuriga school children are released unharmed. While the school children were in captivity, I spoke with Mr. President several times. He shared our pains, comforted us and worked round the clock with us to ensure the safe return of the children.

Special mention must also be made of our dear brother, the National Security Adviser, Mal. Nuhu Ribadu for his exemplary leadership. I spent sleepless nights with Mal. Ribadu finetuning strategies and coordinating the operations of the security agencies, which eventually resulted in this successful outcome.

The Nigerian Army also deserves special commendation for showing that with courage, determination and commitment, criminal elements can be degraded and security restored in our communities.

We also thank all Nigerians who prayed fervently for the safe return of the school children. This is indeed a day of joy. We give Almighty Allah all the glory.

FG Arraigns Miyetti Allah Leader, Bello Bodejo For Terrorism

The Federal Government has arraigned the leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal H**e group, Bello Bodejo, for terrorism-related offence.

Bodejo was brought before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for allegedly establishing and supporting unlawfully an ethnic militia group – Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.

Bodejo was arraigned on Friday on a three-count charge filed by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), in which he was accused of violating the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

[b]Bodejo pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him, following which Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered that he be further detained in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

Justice Ekwo adjourned till May 27 for the commencement of trial.[/b]

Recall that the Miyetti Allah leader was arrested in Nasarawa State days after the organisation launched a vigilante group named, Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.

At the inauguration of the 1,144-man Fulani outfit on January 17, 2024, Bodejo said the move was to tackle banditry, cattle rustling and all forms of insecurity in Nasarawa State.

Following his arrest, the Miyetti Allah leader filed a fundamental rights suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge his prolonged detention.
