Anatomy of a cover.

I’ve been practicing and studying, and wanted to share my process into making the cover, and how much trial and error it takes to make a ‘simple’ design. I’m sharing process where I can, because half the process gets deleted as I go along and stuff gets redrawn.

Secrets of Sapporo $1 is now online for sale, ¥300 plus ¥100 shipping. I enjoy selling things for cheaper than a 7-11 sandwich. I've decided not to post this work online at the moment, and restrict it to physical sales. For the moment, I will only do domestic Japanese sales.

A publisher in the States will be printing a run of them to sell in America and Canada, and any Brits who want a copy, I can probably arrange that through private message.

I took three or four pics of the day without a clue what was in them until I had time at home to actually look at them. 100%, this is my favorite anecdote from yesterday’s event. I love it

The new book. For the first time ever, this was for Japan, not for Canada. I wrote it in English first, for my sake, but the cover is Japanese, the topic is Sapporo. I hope people enjoy it.

On sale on Feb 11 at the Parallel Museum at Snow Festival at Odori. It'll go on sale after that on Gumroad.

THIS WEEKEND! A new book from me! It's small, but it's very very new, very very different. What's it about? It's really hard to explain, but it's bilingual, and it's called 雨ゲム・The Rainy Game

So the Sapporo Snow Festival is on now, and on the weekends is a small press expo of sorts, and I'm the featured artist on Sunday (I don't really understand it, it's the first time this has been part of the Snow Festival).

I'm excited for the event. Sapporo is packed this year, the tourism is up to pre-COVID levels. There's a very good vibe in the city.

New strips I did for an anthology out some time next year. On a quick read, they seem pretty bland and pointless, but I feel I really captured the tone of the day where so many people are locked into the bubble of their hobbies/specialized interests and have a hard time interacting with people outside that bubble.

Mulberry Bay is simply the most obtuse title I could think of, trying to call back to the "mature" comic strips of my childhood which I couldn't understand and skipped over on the funnies page.
