Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Denounces Government’s Lockdown of Jama Masjid and House Arrest, Urges Support for Palestine and Kashmiri Prisoners in Social Media Address

Srinagar, Apr 05 :On the very significant religious occasion of Juma-tul-vida Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house arrest and not allowed to go to Jama Masjid and Jama Masjid was also locked for Namaz by the authorities. A press conference was called by the Mirwaiz at his residence in this regard which was again disallowed by authorities. Following is the text of the video message the Mirwaiz released on social media .

Today on the auspicious occasion of Juma tul-vida I would like to greet you and the Muslim ummah . It would have been a different experience if I could extend this greeting to you in person at Jama Masjid and you would be there to receive it . But for the fifth Consecutive year ,the state authorities have once again locked the gates of historic and central Jama masjid Srinagar and put me under house arrest. Juma-tul-vida has a great significance for us Muslims as it is a day of special prayers and supplications, to seek forgiveness, blessings, and mercy from Allah as the month of Ramadan nears its end, and offering prayers at the central Jamia masjid on the last Friday of Ramzan has great reward and favour with Allah . So Lakhs of people , including men women and children, from near and far ,from all districts of the valley , from rural and remote areas come to Jama Masjid on this day to participate in this specially blessed and rewarding Friday congregational prayer which comes once in a year.

It is extremely sad and unfortunate that the authorities snatched this opportunity from us and forcibly locked the gates of Jama Masjid not allowing this great religious congregation to take place , causing great distress, anguish and pain to you and me . We the People of Jammu Kashmir protest this authoritarianism and direct violation of our religious rights.

Repeatedly this centre of Islam in Kashmir is subject to enforced lockdowns by the authorities. And repeatedly I am put under house arrest on Fridays to prevent me from going to Jama Masjid . Each Friday is a day of uncertainty and anxiety for me as I do not know if I will be allowed to go to Jama Masjid or not depending on the will of the authorities. A few hours before noon I am conveyed what that decision is and if I can go to Jama Masjid or not . This is the most arbitrary and authoritarian way to function and is highly regrettable.
But as the Quran preaches “innallaha-maas-sabireen” Undoubtedly Allah is with the patient !so we have to follow this path of being patient.
Today we are all painfully aware of the great suffering that the people of Palestine are going through. Let us remember them in our prayers today that may Allah ease their suffering and pain and deliver them justice . Let us also remember thousands of our youth and political prisoners, leaders languishing in jail for years and pray for their health and early release .

May Allah protect all of us and have mercy upon us

Jummat-ul-Vida: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir to deliver sermon at Jama Masjid at 12:40 pm, prayer at 02:30 pm

Srinagar, Apr 04: The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has announced that the Jummat-ul-Vida prayers at the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar will be offered tomorrow at 02:30 pm while Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq will begin his Wa'az-o-Tableegh at 12:40 pm, In Sha Allah.

As per the decision taken by the Auqaf recently, this year's Jummat-ul-Vida will be observed as "Youm-e-Taubah Wa Istighfaar".

The Anjuman has urged the faithful to reach the Jama Masjid on time and and for devotees coming after 1.30 to bring prayer mats with them.

Chairs meeting to finalise arrangements at Jama Masjid Srinagar, directs Auqaf to ensure best facilities for worshippers

Srinagar, Apr 03: An extraordinary meeting of the officials and members of Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar was held at the head office of Auqaf under the chairmanship of its head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq.

In the meeting, arrangements were finalised for the facilities of worshipers in the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar in connection with Jummat-ul-Vida, Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr.

It is worth mentioning that after a period of almost five years, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir will offer prayers on Jummat-ul-Vida, Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr, and this time Jummat-ul-Vida will be observed as a day of prayer, repentance and forgiveness.

In the meeting, it was decided that the Jummat-ul-Vida prayer will be offered at 2:30 pm while Mirwaiz will start the sermon at 12:40 pm, and on Shab-e-Qadr, the Taraweeh prayer will be offered at 10:30 pm and at 12:00 am there will be a Majlis-e-Waaz-o-Tableegh, In Sha Allah.

The arrangements regarding providing all kinds of facilities to the worshipers during these holy days were finalised so that those coming from far-off areas can be provided with all possible facilities in the Central Jama Masjid Srinagar.

On the occasion, Mirwaiz instructed the officials and staff of the Auqaf to perform their responsibilities well in terms of electricity, water, cleaning, flooring and other internal arrangements, especially on the occasions of Jummat-ul-Vida, Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr so that no one faces any inconvenience or complains.

In the meeting, the J&K administration was urged to ensure the improvement of power supply, water availability and traffic system in the Jama Masjid during these blessed days and to take special care of cleanliness and hygiene around it.

The members, staff and officials of Anjuman Auqaf assured Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir that they will maintain the sanctity of the Central Jama Masjid as well as fulfill their religious and social responsibilities in an efficient manner so that the worshipers and devotees will not suffer any inconvenience.

The worshippers have been requested to bring their prayer mats with them on the occasion of Jummat-ul-Vida.

Sadaqat-ul-Fitr: Grand M***i Nasir-ul Islam clarifies, says Fitr amount ranges from Rs 70 to Rs 1025 per person

‘Rs 70 per soul to be paid by poor lot, Rs 750 by rich and Rs 1025 by richest, Rs 70 not for one and all’

Srinagar, Mar 30: Jammu and Kashmir’s Grand M***i Nasir-ul-Islam Saturday clarified that Sadaqat-ul-Fitr amount ranges from Rs 70 to Rs 1025 per person depending upon the financial position of the family.

Grand M***i Nasir-ul-Islam said that Rs 70 per soul Sadaqat-ul-Fitr has been misinterpreted by the people and it is believed that Rs 70 is to be paid by one and all. “That’s not the case. Rs 70 is for the poor lot who are fighting hard to make their both ends meet. Similarly, Rs 750 (which is equivalent to 3 kgs of Cheese) is for the rich class and Rs 1025 is for the richest class per soul (as per 3 kg rate of raisins).

Quoting Hadith, M***i Nasir said: “ Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Apostle enjoined the payment of one Sa' of dates or one Sa' of barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the 'Id prayer. (One Sa' = 3 Kilograms approx.)”

In another Hadith, “The Prophet ordered the people to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr before going to the Eid prayer.”

The Grand M***i appealed to the people to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr as per their financial ability and as per set rules which is Rs 70 for poorest, Rs 750 for rich, and Rs 1025 for the richest class (per soul/per family). He said that money should reach to the needy, destitute, orphans and widows and those in need ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr so that they too can celebrate the festival.

Stresses on Zakat and charity, Express sorrow over the loss of lives in Ramban accident

Srinagar, Mar 29 : Addressing people at the Friday congregation in Jama masjid , Mirwaiz Umar Farooq lamented that even in the holy month of Ramzan which is a time of spiritual significance when the faithful look forward to guidance and religious sermons to enrich their faith and practice, he is not allowed unimpeded access to masjids and is repeatedly put under house arrest. He said that yesterday as per the announced program he was not allowed to address the religious gathering at Aali masjid. Mirwaiz said that such actions also curtail the fundamental freedoms of expression and religion. Mirwaiz asked the authorities to desist from pursuing this cycle of unexplained detentions, and allow him to continue his religious work of dawah .

Mirwaiz emphasized the virtues and significance of Ramadan as highlighted in the Qur'an and Hadith, underscoring the dual nature of devotion during this holy month: spiritual closeness to Allah Almighty through prayer and the importance of financial generosity. He stressed that Ramadan calls us not only to spiritual worship but also to extend our financial support to those in need within our community, through zakat and charitable donations.

He shared that Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil has been a beacon of support for the less fortunate, including the impoverished, the ill, and those affected by disasters, for several decades. In light of this, he expressed hope that during Ramadan, the community would bolster this institution's efforts by contributing zakat and charity, thereby honoring both the spiritual and financial aspects of worship.

Mirwaiz also announced that a special waz o tableegh majlis would take place at Dastgir Sahib Sarai Bala on the 21st of Ramadan from zuhar to Asr prayers , marking the Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Ali(RA)

Furthermore, Mirwaiz expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of 10 lives in a road accident near Battery Chashma Ramban on the National Highway. He conveyed his deepest sympathies and solidarity with the bereaved families, sharing in their grief during this difficult time.
