Man Eater’ Leopard Hunted Down Finally In Uri

Beast Killed After It Injured Woman

Baramulla, Oct 9 (GNS): After giving sleepless nights to locals and keeping wild life teams on toes for more than a fortnight, “man-eater” leopard was on Sunday “hunted down” in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Wildlife team and police eliminated the man-eater wildlife beast after it attacked a woman namely Dilshada Begum (30) wife of Farid Ahmad of Latchipora. While woman was removed to GMC Baramulla for medical treatment, teams of wildlife and police, camping in the area from last more than a week achieved any success in eliminating the beast. Officials of the wildlife department told GNS that the movement pattern of the beast were highly dynamic and had been closely watched.

The officials said that after the killing of two minors, several teams were deputed on several spots in Uri and launched search operations to locate the animal. The animal had killed at least two minors before the officials ordered “hunting down” of the leopard.

On 16 September at 7.00 PM, a girl child namely Munzia Beigh daughter of Imran of Jabadar Lachipora Boniyar (Uri) was lifted and killed by a leopard. Her body was recovered from a nearby forest area late in the night on the same day.

Subsequently on September 22, at about 7.30 PM another child namely Ali Hussain son of Abbas Hussain of Dani Cholan Boniyar (Uri) was lifted and killed by the leopard and subsequently his body was retrieved after several hours search from the forest area. (GNS)

After 5 days, Kulgam operation called off due to bad weather

Kulgam, Jun 18 (KNO): The security forces on Saturday called off the operation at Mishipora-Kujjar area of Yaripora hamlet of Kulgam after five days, officials said.

The operation was called off due to bad weather conditions, they said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that after killing of two local Hizb militants on Thursday, no fresh contact was established with militants during searches.

The operation was called off due to inclement weather conditions, they said.

The operation started in the area on 14 June after specific inputs about the presence of militants.

Officials said that after initial exchange of fire on 14 June, the searches continued in the area and fresh contact was established with militants on 16 June.

On 16 June, police claimed that two militants were killed during encounter and identified one slain militant as Zubair Sofi of Mohanpora in Kulgam. The identification of the second militant was not known yet, they said.

They added that Sofi was involved in the killing of woman teacher Rajni Bala on May 31.

They further added that searches continued in the area for two more days, however, no fresh contact was established and finally due to bad weather conditions, the operation was called off on Saturday evening after 5 days—(KNO)

Bullet riddled body of Police official found in Pampore

Pampore, Jun 18 (KNO): A bullet riddled body of police sub inspector was found under mysterious circumstances in Pampore area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that body of police sub inspector was spotted in paddy fields of his native village in Samboora Pampore and accordingly police rushed to the spot and took body into their custody.

Day 04: Search operation continues in Kulgam

Srinagar, June 17:(GNS) Cordon and search operation has entered into fourth day at Mishipora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday .

A top police officer told GNS that after killing two militants yesterday, the cordon and search operation will continue as there is apprehension of more militants hiding in the area.

So far no fresh contact has been established with any hiding militants since yesterday, the officer added.

It's pertinent to mention that two militants of Hizb oufit including the one who was responsible for killing teacher Rajni Bala were killed on the third day of Gunfight in Kulgam.(GNS)

9-year-old Mumin yearns to play for team India

Kulgam, Jun 16 (KNO): Mumin Liyakat from Kulgam is one among many cricketers who dream of playing for team India.

To achieve his dream, he has been playing cricket every day before 9 am and after 4 pm.

“My favourite player is Virat Kohli and I am following his style,” he said, adding, “my family has been very supportive for me and are always encouraging me to play cricket”.

His father Liyakat Ahmad Dar told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that he left cricket in 2012 after he got injured in the playfield. But he also has been constantly guiding his son in the game.

“My son plays with a leather ball from day one and he has been practicing on cemented turf instead of an ordinary turf,” he said, adding that the ball on cemented turf comes with more speed and it gives batsman less time to react.

His coach Abrar ul Haq said that Mumin is full of talent and the way he plays shot at this very young age that too on cemented turf, it seems he is a born talented and will achieve his dream—(KNO)

IED found in Litter Pulwama, BDS on Job

>>> Srinagar, June 16: An Improvised explosive device was found by police in Litter area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Thrusday, officials said.

They said the the IED was dedected on the road side following which a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the area.

When this report was filed Police and BDS have already reached to the spot to assess it.

8 CRPF men, civilian injured in Kulgam accident

Kulgam, Jun 16 (KNO): At least eight paramilitary CRPF personnel and a civilian were injured when two vehicles turned turtle after collision at Nehama area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that CRPF vehicle bearing registration (HR55AE-2071) collided with an auto bearing registeration number (JK18C-8341), resulting in injuries to eight CRPF personnel and an auto driver.

He identified the injured CRPF personnel as Surinder Singh, K Satya, K Maha, Rakib-Ul-Islam, Rajinder, C Rama Krishna, Mishram Arvind, A Rajni while civilian was identified as Mohammad Akbar.

All rhe injured were rushed to hospital for treatment where their condition is said to be stable, he said.

Meanwhile, Police have taken cognizance of the incident and started investigation—(KNO)

Mother-son duo dies, two other family members injured after tree falls on their tent in Shopian

Srinagar, Jun 16 (KNO): In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a mother-son duo died while as two other family members were injured after a tree fell on their tent in Zaban Gali area of Shopian.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that during gusty winds last night, one big tree fell on Kotha (tent) at Zaban Gali in forest area of Shopian.

In the incident mother and son duo died on spot who were identified as Sharefa Bano wife of Nika Katari R/o Naidkor Kathhallan and her son idrees ahmad son of Nika Katari resident of Khatwalan in Tehsil Keller of Shopian district Shopian.

He further added that in the incident Nika katari and his daughter were also injured who have been hospitalized while as dead bodies are being brought to Kathhallan Keller for last rites.

Kulgam encounter: Search operation continues on second day

Kulgam, Jun 15 (KNO): Search operation continued for the second straight day on Wednesday after an encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Mishipora-Kujjar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the search operation continued on the second day in the Mishipora-Kujjar area, where the initial gunfight started on Tuesday.

He said cordon layers have been tightened to ensure militants aren’t able to flee. “Lights have been installed to keep a watch on the spot where militants are suspected to be hiding,” he said—(KNO)

6-yr-old boy electrocuted to death in Budgam

Srinagar, June 14: A 6-year-old boy died after receiving an electric shock at his home in Mujpathri area of central Kashmir's Budgam district on Tuesday, sources said.

They told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the boy identified as Uzair Hameed Sheikh, son of Abdul Hameed from Mujpathri received a electric jolt at his home this evening

The boy was soon after removed to sub district hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead on arrival.

A police official in the meantime also confirmed to KDC about the death of the boy due to electrocution. (KDC)

Kulgam, Jun 14 (KNO): After initial exchange of fire, no fresh contact has been established with militants at Mishipora in Yaripora area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday, officials said.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Mishipora area.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight, he said.

Meanwhile, officials told KNO that after initial exchange of fire no fresh contact has been established with the hiding militants.

More reinforcement has been rushed to the spot, lights have been installed and cordon layers have been tightened in the whole area and search operation is underway in the area, they said—(KNO)

Handwara family alleges murder of their daughter

Kupwara, June 13 (KNO): A 32-year-old woman was found dead at her husband's house under mysterious circumstances, with her family alleging that she was murdered by in-laws in Kakroosa village of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the women (name withheld) found dead under mysterious circumstances at her husband's home this morning. After hearing it, the family members of the victim have alleged that her in-laws strangled her to death as they had been harassing her continuously.

They also registered a protest demonstration and demanded stern action against culprits involved in her death. “Expressing hope that police will initiate action in the matter, a family member alleged that their daughter was being regularly tortured by her in-laws,” they said.

Srinagar June 12: LeT militant Adil Parray was killed in brief shootout in Kreesbal Palpora area of outskirts of Srinagar district on Sunday.

On the behalf of IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, The Kashmir Police Zone tweeted, " LeT militant Adil Parray of Ganderbal who was involved in killing of 02 JKP personnel Gh Hassan Dar in Sangam & Saifulla Qadri in Anchar Soura and injuring a 9 year old girl, killed in a chance encounter with a small team of Police,".

Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar told GNS that I have quoted his name several times as he was behind many killings and a important asset for LeT.

Gunny Bag defused at Rawalpora Srinagar, traffic being restored: Police

Srinagar, June 11 (GNS): Police and security forces defused a gunny bag at Rawalpora area here on Sunday.

Official sources told GNS that some suspicious gunny bag, was found at Rawalpora in area of the Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

Soon police and CRPF rushed to the spot and subsequently called Bomb Disposal Squad. As a precautionary measure, a police officer told GNS that traffic through the area was suspended.

A senior police told GNS that after defusing the suspicious gunny bag, nothing IED like material was found inside it. Traffic through the area has also been restored. "A case has been registered." (GNS)

30-yr-old non-local labourer succumbs to burn injuries at Sgr hospital

Budgam, Jun 12 (KNO): A 30-year-old labourer, who had suffered burn injuries in Budgam district, succumbed at Srinagar hospital on Saturday late evening, official sources said on Sunday.

Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a 30-year-old non-local labourer identified as Mohammad Ehsaan of West Bengal, who was working as a labourer at Plywood Factory at New Khanda Budgam had suffered grievous burn injuries due to hot water at the factory.

He was shifted to SMHS Hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his burn injuries, they said.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident—(KNO)
