GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE SURANKOTE ORGANISED ONE DAY SEMINAR ON MAATI KO NAMAN AUR VEERON KA VANDAN UNDER THE AEGIS OF AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV”
On 17th August 2023, GDC Surankote organized one day seminar on Maati ko Naman aur Veeron Ka Vandan under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with the theme “Meri Maati Mera Desh”. The event was graced by the presence of Sh. Mohammad Shahnawaz Choudary, DDC member who acted as the Chief Guest and Sh. Jahangir Hussain Mir, former Deputy Chairperson J & K Legislative Council as guest of honor whereas Prof. (Dr) Rani Mughal Principal of the college presided over the function. The seminar was attended by a significant number of students and faculty members besides prominent citizens, academicians and other dignitaries from the Pir Panjal region which included Nazir Ahmed Qureshi, Arif Kazmi who also spoke on the occasion. Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed Qazi, NSS program officer conducted the proceedings of the seminar.
Dr. Syed Wajahat Hussain IQAC coordinator extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests on behalf of the college administration. In his address, Dr. Wajahat paid homage to the martyrs and freedom fighters who laid their lives for India’s freedom.
The students who presented their paper included Iram Saba, Shaista Baji, Shazia Ashraf, Misbah Dar and Ashiq Khalifa.
Besides war veterans and families of martyrs, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, illustrious faculty, social workers and media fraternity were also felicitated by the college administration. War veterans and families of martyrs included Hon. Captain Farooq Ahmed, Hav. Ashaq Hussain, HAV. Gulfraz Ahmed, Hav. Shamas Din, Nayak Lal Hussain, Ashiq Khalifa brother Late Mureed Hussain Khalifa and Tazeem Akthar widow of Late ASI Niyaz Ahmed Qureshi.
Chief guest Sh. Mohammad Shahnawaz Choudary in his speech paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters who made tremendous sacrifices for the liberation of India. He acknowledged their unwavering dedication, selflessness, and determination in the struggle for independence.
In her address Prof. Rani Mughal emphasized that we should go beyond mere slogans and live with harmony and promote universal brotherhood for a prosperous nation.
Dr. Syed Ovais, HOD Chemistry presented a formal vote of thanks.
After light refreshment, a plantation was carried out in Amrit Vatika/ Herbal garden by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. Pertinent to mention that saplings for the plantation were provided by Showkat Ali Kohli volunteer/ Life member Pir Panjal Environment and Eco Development Society J & K (Regd.).
