We are pleased to inform you that Dr Thomaï Alexiou will honour our 4th International Conference on Language Education and Research that will take place on October 1st and 2nd in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Keynote speaker: Dr Thomaï Alexiou
Short bio: Dr Thomaï Alexiou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, School of English, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (expertise: 'Learning of English as a foreign/second language in preschool and school age'). She holds an MA in TEFL from Canterbury Christ Church University and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Wales Swansea, UK (full scholarship). She has taught English as a foreign language for about 10 years in Greece and Britain. She currently teaches courses in methodology of language teaching, pedagogical foundations in learning a foreign language and materials design for preschoolers. Since her employment she has been involved in research projects specialising on young learners such as PEAP (English for young learners educational project) and other areas such as DysTEFL2, CLIL-Prime etc. She is also the coordinator of the Modules ‘Teaching English to Young Learners’ (at the postgraduate level) at the Hellenic Open University.
Her research interests concern cognitive development and individual differences in foreign language learning for very young learners while her expertise is in early foreign language learning, methodology of teaching languages to young learners (preschool and primary education), and material development for young learners. She has been invited as a speaker and teacher trainer in Greece, Europe, Australia, Russia and the UAE and she has published widely in the field of second language pedagogy. She has also written and edited textbooks for students learning English as a foreign language. She is the co-author of Magic Book 1&2, Teaching packages for the teaching of English at Grade 3 in Greek state schools. Magic Book 2 has been shortlisted for the MacMillan Education Award for New Talent in Writing (ELTons 2014). She is currently the Academic leader and coordinator of the EAN project (Introduction of EFL at Greek state pre-primary schools, https://ean.auth.gr/).

Dear Colleague,

I sincerely apologise for the delay in the release of the December issues of the Journal of Applied Language and Linguistics.

The pandemic and then the war in Ukraine have affected seriously some of our staff and authors who were unable to meet the paper submission deadline. Though, the good news is that the December 2021 issues that include your papers are ready and you will receive them in pdf format for free due to the delay within the current week. Also, the JALL subscribers will receive the December 2021 issues by April 30th and their subscription will be renewed for 2022 for free.

On another note, we are delighted to inform you that the 4th International Conference on Language Education and Research (LERC2022) will take place in a face-to-face (for national and international presenters) AND online format (for the international presenters who are unable to travel to Greece only) on October 1st and 2nd, 2022. ALS House Delta-CELTA centres, the Research Centre for Applied Languages and Linguistics, the Journal of Applied Languages and Linguistics , Macmillan Education and Cambridge Assessment English are eager to welcome your paper proposals and yourselves to LERC2022.

These scholarships, funded by the University of Nicosia, give the opportunity for anyone with an interest in English Language and Literature and in Distance learning (MA in TESOL) to attend the 3rd International Conference on Language Education and Research.

It is not necessary to be a JALL subscriber to apply nor do you have to give a presentation.

​The award consists of:
· The first scholarship will be a 20% scholarship for the duration of studies (4 years) for the BA in English Language and Literature (€8,880 – 20% = €7,104 per year).
· The second scholarship will be 15% for the duration of studies (1.5 years) for the Distance Learning MA in TESOL (€6,300 – 15% = €5,355)
