Join us today when our guest will be local Montrealer Deborah Bassett. Deborah Bassett is a long-time animal rights and marine conservation activist. We'll be discussing Paul Watson's new organization the Captain Paul Watson Foundation and their recent voyage to stop the slaughter of endangered Fin Whales in Iceland.

Deborah has traveled the globe extensively raising awareness and funding for various environmental causes and social initiatives. She has volunteered in the field from tsunami relief in southern Thailand, to Habitat for Humanity in rural El Salvador, to jaguar conservation in the heart of Mexico's Selva Maya Rainforest. Throughout the years she has worked directly with such organizations as Amazon Watch, Global Green USA, Rainforest2Reef, Earth Island Institute, the Clinton Global Initiative, TEDx SF, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and the Captain Paul Watson Foundation.

As a freelance journalist she has also been a contributor to The Huffington Post, National Geographic, The Ecologist, and Elephant Journal.

Today on Ecolibrium at 11am on CKUT 90.3 FM I'll be having a feature chat with Pointe-Claire Mayor Tim Thomas about the efforts to protect Fairview Forest, heritage buildings, and his past as an academic who once wrote a book (that was published in 1997) all about the Montreal Citizen's Movement. The book is called A City With a Difference: The Rise and Fall of the Montreal Citizen's Movement and it was published by Vehicule Press. Tim did a bachelor of arts in history at Queen’s University, followed by a masters degree in public policy and public administration at Concordia University and a PhD in public administration and political science at Carleton University.
