Mary was blessed with the most special of places in Christ's life and in God's plan.
The last of the four Marian Dogmas, the Assumption of Mary celebrates that Mary was united, body and soul, with her beloved son unto heaven, and shows us to devote ourselves to Him with the hope of spending eternity with our Lord.

It was established in 2021 by Pope Francis to coincide with the feasts of our Blessed Mary's parents, Saints Joachim and Anne 🤍

Especially today, we celebrate our grandparents, great grandparents, and those in our lives who are a grandmother or grandfather figure in our lives.
Take today to be with them or to connect with their spirits - life is a blessing to receive their unconditional love, kindness, guidance and wisdom 💜

🤍 𝟭𝟯𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗻𝗿𝘆, 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗿, 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲.
Throughout his life, Henry was known as a man of great faith, and maintined a close relationship with the Church. He became Emperor in 1014, where he felt his primary duty was to strengeth the Church, spread Christianity and exemplify charity.
Henry successfully ended wars and uprisings, pardoned those who rebelled against him, and aimed to establish a stable peace in Europe. He was also fond of prayer and was deeply devoted to the Mother of God. One of his greatest contributions was the construction of monastries and supprting monastic reform.
🤍 𝟭𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿.
Bonaventure received his name when he became a Franciscan at the age of 22. In 1257 he was elected Minister General of the Franciscan Order.
In this position, he wrote his mystical masterpiece, The Soul's Journey into God, as well as two versions of The Life of Francis which became the official biographies of the Franciscan Order. These writings present Francis as a model of the spiritual journey that takes the follower of Christ through the stages of purgation, illumination, and union with God.
Bonaventure had a love of nature: "Just as you see that a ray of light entering through a stained-glass window is colored in different ways according to the different colors of the various parts, so the divine rays shine forth in every creature in different ways and in different properties. Creatures are shadows, echoes, and pictures of that first most perfect Principle... They are vestiges, representations, spectacles proposed to us, and signs divinely given so that we can see God."

🤍 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶, 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀.
Due to poverty and the death of her father, in 1902 when Maria was 11, she, her mum and six siblings had to move in with a family whose 20 year old son regularly made sexual advances at her. After another denied advancement towards her, he threatened to kill her if she didn't oblige him, yet she still refused him, saying "No! It is a sin! God does not want it!”. He then stabbed her 14 times in the neck. As she lay dying in hospital, she forgave her murderer. She is remembered for her commitement to purity and her courageous defiance to sin against God, even at such a young age.
🤍 𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗭𝗵𝗮𝗼 𝗥𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆𝗿𝘀.
Christianity first came to China in the 600s, and depending on it’s international relations, Christianity was either able to grow freely or forced to operate secretly.
Between 1648 and 1930, 120 Christian Martyrs died. 87 were Chinese born, ranging in age from nine to 72 years, and included children, parents, catechists, laborers, and four Chinese diocesan priests. The 33 foreign-born Martyrs were mostly priests or women religious.
Zhao was a Chinese soldier who accompanied Bishop Dufresse to his martyrdom in Beijing. Soon after his baptism, he was ordained as a diocesan priest. He was Martyred in 1815.
🤍 𝟭𝟭𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁, 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲.
Benedict was born into Roman nobility in 480, and lead an impressive and impactful life. He was a religious reformer, even well known in his time, and is known as the "father of Western monasticism" having established Rule that would become the norm for innumerable Christian monks and nuns; Benedictines give up material things, commit their life wholly to Christ and strive to live in harmony with others. Benedict performed many miracles, and regarded humility and spirituality was important for growth in holiness. His twin sister named Scholastica, also became a Saint.

Saints of the Week, Pray for us.

🤍 𝟮𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹, 𝗔𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀
Saints Peter and Paul are considered the foundational pillars of the Catholic Church. Peter represents the stability of the Church, and the office of the Vicar of Christ. Paul represents the mission of evangelisation that was entrusted to the Church by Jesus Himself. Their twin martyrdom reminds us that our faith must be both stable and mission-oriented.

🤍 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀, 𝗔𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲
Thomas doubted the Resurrection of Jesus, demanding physical proof of the wounds of Christ's Crucifixion. When Jesus showed him the wounds, Saint Thomas became the first person to explicitly acknowledge the divinity of Jesus.

🤍 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗹, 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆. Elizabeth was a Spanish princess who was given in marriage in 1288 to the King of Portugal at the age of twelve. She lived a life conducive to growing in God's love by exercising charity by befriending and helping pilgrims, strangers, the sick and poor. Despite her husband's infidelity, she remained a model of kindness with a deep sincerity for humankind's abiding confidence in God.

🤍 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗭𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮, 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀. His family was of nobility, and in order to teach him compassion for the poor, his mother made him her almoner. He practised as a physician for three years, then in 1527, he started studying for the priesthood. He was an early leader of the Counter Reformation, the founder of religious orders and a promoter of the devotion to the Passion of Christ, the Eucharist and the renewal of the religious life among the laity.

🤍 𝟭𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗱, 𝗔𝗯𝗯𝗼𝘁. In his youth, Romuald watched his father kill a relative in a duel over property but fled his home in horror he fled to a monastery. In the 11th century, he spent the next 30 years going about Italy, founding monasteries and hermitages.
🤍 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗴𝗮, 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. By the age of 11, Aloysius was teaching catechism to poor children, fasting three days a week, and practicing great austerities. Renouncing his right to the title of Marquis and to a vast wealth, he entered the Society of Jesus at age 17. During his early studies in Rome, he regularly went onto the streets to care for victims of the plague, but he himself contracted the disease, aged 23.
🤍 𝟮𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 - 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆𝗿𝘀. When King Henry VIII wanted to divorce his wife to marry someone younger, Bishop Fisher was the only Bishop in England who refused to sign this request. Henry had parliament claim that he is supreme head of the Catholic Church in England, and still Bishop Fisher refused to sign. For this, he was imprisoned for 14 months and without a trial, in 1535 he was condemned to death. Thomas More was a lawyer and friend of the king. As chancellor of England, Thomas also refused the divorce. Henry imprisoned him and tried to change his mind for over a year but Thomas stood firm. After suffering hunger, cold, and loneliness, Thomas was led to be beheaded. Seeing that the masked swordsman was nervous, Thomas said, “Be not afraid, for you send me to God.” Then he said to the crowd, “I die the king’s good servant, but God’s first.”

𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤, 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬.

🤍 𝟏𝟏𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞: Saint Barnabas, Apostle. Being one of the Apostolic Fathers, he is an important early Christian missionary who is mentioned in the New Testament. His story is told in the Acts of the Apostles and he is also mentioned in some of Paul's letters.
🤍 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞: Saint Anthony of Padua, Priest and doctor. Anthony was born into a wealthy family in Lisbon, joined the Franciscan order in 1220. He was a dedicated patron of the poor, and won great admiration as a preacher for his profound teachings of the Catholic faith. He is known as the patron saint for lost things.

Saints of the Week, Pray for us.

🤍 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲: 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆𝗿. A pagan reared in a Jewish family, he studied philosophy in what is now Turkey. He proclaimed his newfound Christian philosophy with the hope of converting educated pagans. Saint Justin was condemned in 165 AD for his efforts convincing Roman officials of the disadvantages of persecuting Christians.
🤍 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲: 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆𝗿𝘀. Born in 1806 in what is now Uganda, he encountered Christianity in his youth and longed to convert. Charles was chief steward under King Mwanga, a harsh and evil ruler who called for all the Christians in his court to be killed. Saint Charles led the Christians in refusing to renounce their Christian faith and for this, he was murdered.
🤍 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲: 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆𝗿. Born in England in 675, Saint Boniface was a often called the Apostle of Germany for his role in the Christianisation of the country. On his way to confirm some baptised converts in what is now the Netherlands, a group of armed robbers appeared who murdered St Boniface and his group.
🤍 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲: 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁, 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲. Saint Norbert came from a princely and noble family, yet with his strong faith, he was known for his deep devotion to God and for his commitment to living a life of holiness and piety. He founded the Norbertine Order in the 12th century, and built the order on the foundations of love and selfless sharing.
🤍 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲: 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁, 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. In 1816, he founded the Marist Brothers to bring the message of Jesus' love to neglected young people. Today, his passion, vision and work are embodied in the mission of the Marist Brothers living all over the world.

✝ 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤, 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬.

🤍 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐲: Saint Gregory VII was Pope of the Catholic Church until 1085. One of the great reforming popes, he dismissed clergy who had purchased their positions in the Church, and also attacked the acts of selling church offices and roles or sacred things.
🤍 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐲: Saint Mary Magdalen de' Pazzi, was born into a noble family in 1566 and was faithful to prayer and meditation throughout her life. As a Sister, her wisdom and love led her to many important positions at the convent.
🤍 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐲: Saint Bede the Venerable, a highly regarded priest and doctor, his writings were filled with great learning and faith, and he was regarded as one of the most outstanding scholars of his time. In 682, Bede moved into the monastery, where he spent the rest of his life.
🤍 𝟐𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐲: Saint Augustine of Canterbury, in the late 6th century, he was sent from Rome to England to bring Christianity to the Anglo-Saxons. He became the first Archbishop of Canterbury, established one of medieval England's most important abbeys, and kickstarted their conversion to Christianity.
🤍 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐲: Saint Paul VI, was Pope until 1978. He promoted the cooperation and unity among all Christian denominations, and was the first pope to travel more widely (even visiting Australia in 1970).

On 6th May, Radio Maria hosted our first Mother’s Day event, with a special Mass and Rosary celebrating the beautiful Mother’s in our lives, those on earth and those in heavenly peace, and those who raised us as their own 🩷

It was a beautiful day with some wonderful people, and we thank all our guests for joining us 💜

A special thank you goes out to Marisa - not only did she lead our Rosary, but she catered dozens of home made scones with home made jam and cream for us to enjoy! We also thank our listeners for tuning in and praying with us 🩵

Saints of the Week, Pray for us.

🤍 18th May: Saint John 1, was Pope until his death in 526, and the first to go to Constantinople reconciling the Western and Eastern churches. He was martyred for his faith, imprisoned and starved to death.
🤍 21st May: Saint Cristóbal Magallanes and his Companions. Saint Cristóbal was a Mexican Catholic priest who lived under an anti-Catholic government that made it a crime to receive baptism or celebrate Mass. He was killed in 1927, and his companions were 21 priests and 3 lay men killed over a span of 22 years.
🤍 22nd May: Saint Rita of Cascia, patron saint for abused women, mourning wives and impossible causes. Saint Rita became a wife and mother at only twelve years old in 1393 to a husband who had a temper and was violent. After the death of her husband and sons, she turned to her childhood desire of entering the convent.

Today, in the month of Our Lady, is the anniversary of Her apparition to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917.

Mother Mary spoke to the children, “Please don’t be afraid of me, I’m not going to harm you.” She asked them to pray and devote themselves to the Holy Trinity and to “say the Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and an end to the war.” 🤍

The story from Fatima is the story of our blessed Rosary and the importance of prayer.
Pope John Paul II wrote "the Blessed Virgin desires to exercise through this same prayer that maternal concern to which the dying Redeemer entrusted, in the person of the beloved disciple, all the sons and daughters of the Church.” 💙

The Fatima Prayer, as Mary told the children to pray at the end of each decade of the rosary.

O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy. Amen.

To our beautiful mums; those on earth and those in heavenly peace, to our mothers, grandmothers and aunts, to all the women who have raised us and loved us as their own, we give thanks to you 💜

We pray you all enjoy a special and blessed Mother's Day - may we rejoice in the wondrous and truest love that God bestowed on Mothers for us 🩵

O Heart of Mary, Mother of God and our Mother,
we pray for all mothers to be lovers and nurturers of life,
while being examples for their children.
Give them blessings to be loved in return.

We pray for their children, may they be faithful followers of your Son.
May mothers receive the dedicated support of their husband, family and
friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children.

We pray for mothers who have died,
may God bring them into the joy of His kingdom.
We pray for mothers who have lost a child, that their faith
give them hope, and their loved ones support and console them.

Give all mothers much joy and delight in their children,
so to sustain them through the trials of motherhood.
Give them the wisdom to turn to you for help and guidance.

Saints of the week, pray for us!
𝟭𝟯𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝘆: The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima - Marks the anniversary of the first six Marian apparitions to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima, Portugal in 1917. Our Lady appeared six times to Lucia, 9, and her cousins Francisco, 8, and his sister Jacinta, 6, between 13th May 1917 and 13th October 1917.

𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝘆: Saint Matthias, was chosen from among Jesus' disciples to replace Judas as the twelfth apostle. After receiving the Holy Spirit with the other apostles on the day of Pentecost, he left to preach the gospel in Judea and Colchis, where he was crucified.
