In August 2022, Shannon and the Clams' frontwoman and bassist Shannon Shaw’s world was turned inside out. With mere weeks to go until their wedding, the singer’s fiancé, Joe Haener, died in a horrific car accident in front of his family’s vegetable farm in Oregon. It was a devastating loss that hit Shannon & The Clams with cataclysmic force.

Amid this overwhelming sense of grief, melodies and lyrics began to flow out of Shaw. From the shock and trauma of that tragedy comes Shannon & The Clams’ latest album, 'The Moon Is In The Wrong Place', a powerful exploration of loss, time, love, and resilience that stands as the beloved garage band’s most ambitious, emotionally searing recording to date.

While on tour down under, the band stop by PBS for an intimate Studio 5 Live performance on Firewater - PBS FM. Tune in on Tuesday January 28 from 5pm to hear an exclusive set and conversation with host Claire Stuchbery.

This weekend, Star Cinema's fourth annual Eaglehawk Film Festival returns from Friday January 17 to Sunday January 19, 2025.

Since its inception in 2022, the Eaglehawk Film Festival has stood out with its unique approach, curating each year's content around a specific theme. Unlike traditional film festivals, which focus on showcasing new releases, Eaglehawk offers a refreshing alternative, diving deep into cinema history and presenting a carefully selected mix of titles from various cultures, eras, and genres.

This year’s theme, ALIVE, promises an exciting exploration of what it means to be alive across different times and places. The festival kicks off with the gripping bio-adventure Alive (1993), starring Ethan Hawke, followed by an eclectic selection of seven films spanning from the 1950s to the present, including a 1958 comedy, a powerful true story, and a sweeping Korean drama from 2014.

Thanks, Congratulations and Farewell to Susi Lanagan!

PBS listeners would have heard that February 6 will be a very special day for Susi Lanagan and What the Folk!. That date will mark the 20th anniversary of Susi’s program, but it will also be the very last episode of this wonderful, unique PBS radio show. With mixed emotions here at PBS, we’ll be going out of our way to make the final program on Thursday February 6 something very special. Susi has invited some of her favourite musicians to come and play live, and we encourage every PBS listener to tune in and help us celebrate Susi’s incredible contribution.

For this anniversary program local folk/goth project Dandelion Wine will be tuning their hammered dulcimers and bouzoukis for an intimate performance, and singer/songwriter Kerryn Fields will also perform a set to help us send Susi out in style.

We’ll all miss Susi dearly and really can’t thank her enough for what she’s given to PBS and to our listeners. Her on-air warmth, her passion for music, and her deep love for our community have brightened our Thursdays every week for 20 years. Now Susi is off on new adventures with a plan to travel and explore. We wish her all the very best and have no doubt that she’ll bring sunshine to wherever she lands.

Join Susi on Thursday mornings for the last remaining episodes of What The Folk!, and tune in for the final program on February 6.
