For Robert Towers, hunting meteorites is a “wonderful hobby” — but his strike rate is impressive, and he hopes the ancient space rocks could hold undiscovered clues to the origins of the Earth and life itself. 🌏🌌

Mr Towers has found more than 200 meteorites across the Nullarbor Plains in Western and South Australia — more than 130 of which he has donated to SA’s Museum.

He has now been recognised for his contributions to the museum’s collection with a commemorative medallion.

Arriving at Adelaide Airport, Power captain Connor Rozee said Sydney was "the better side on the night" but he was "proud" of his team.

"We didn't quite get there last night but our effort and intensity were right there and we're still a young side that's getting better every year so we'll look to get back and put ourselves in the same opportunity again," he said.

Ceduna just got a whole lot more colourful.🐟🦀❤️

The underwater scene is the brainchild of local artist and art teacher Frew-Ann Halbert who worked alongside Crossways Lutheran School students to paint this mural. 🎨

“I gave the kids a real free-for-all with the patterns on the fish… they had a fish each and did whatever they wanted,” Halbert told the ABC.

“It is always a special time coming back to Adelaide.” ❤️

Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia told ABC Radio Adelaide’s Deb Tribe she has a special connection with Adelaide and South Australia.

On 1 July 2024, Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, was officially sworn in as the 28th Governor-General of Australia at a Parliament House ceremony and it’s the first visit to the state in this role.

“My mum was an Adelaide girl, sadly she’s no longer alive but she was a very proud South Australian.”

“I started school here and I went to Netley Primary School and we spent a year living here with my grandmother near Glenelg when my father served in Vietnam.”

“My parents actually meet here in Adelaide. My mum was a librarian and my dad was a young captain. Their love story started here and I have a deep sense of affection and nostalgia for my childhood here,” Her Excellency told ABC’s Deb Tribe.

Have you ever seen a camera on the back of a bumble bee? 🐝🎥😲

We don't see bumble bees in South Australia, but the large earth bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) is widespread in Tasmania.

Now one university is using Soviet spy technology to watch these bees during their most intimate moments.

Find out more: https://shorturl.at/usORs

"We get a nice glue that isn't too stinky, and you give the back of the bee a little shave, as they are a bit hairy. And then you put a drop of glue on it and then you can stick this little micro transmitter onto their back," Lecturer in Entomology at University of Tasmania, Jon Finch told ABC Radio Adelaide's Narelle Graham.

“It’s a complete definition of stupidity really ... why you would continue to place yourself and other road users at risk by doing that, it’s just ridiculous, stupid, irresponsible behaviour.”

Massive fines are being handed out for motorists illegally using a mobile phone while driving. 🚗🤳

In South Australia alone, police have issued 68,252 warning letters to drivers using their phones behind the wheel during a three-month expiation grace period for five new detection cameras – that’s about one driver every two minutes. 🤯

The Dog and Cat Management Board have distributed promotional leaflets to more than 314,000 South Australian canines with an animated dog named ‘Buddy’ as the focal point.

The state government says in the first half of this year, 114 posties were attacked by dogs in SA, and that more than 1,000 posties are attacked across the country each year.

The campaign aims to share practical safety messaging to keep SA’s posties safe and reduce the overall number of dog bites in the state.

The government says free bumper stickers and collectible dog safety leaflets are also available from SA Post Offices.

📷: Thanks to Moo, Valentino, Tui, Kaiser, and Toffee for posing with their letters. 💖💖

Of the 72 bars and nightclubs within the Adelaide CBD that are listed on Google, 60 per cent of them are not wheelchair accessible or do not have that information freely available.

Organising a night out is exhausting work for young people with disabilities like Alessa — from checking the terrain, doorways, entrances, and adequate space for a wheelchair.

"Whyalla is a very important strategic city, not just for this state but for the country."

The story of Whyalla has been told and retold, and is often framed as a tale of a town and its steel plant. That is not an inaccurate picture, but nor is it a complete one.

While jobs are on the line, and the city's future is at stake, saving the steelworks isn't just about protecting a regional population — what happens in Whyalla could have broader implications for the nation. Download the ABC NEWS app and stay in the know: ab.co/abcnewsapp
