I was a little late for Mother's Day—I was too busy celebrating with the fam—but I saw article for the NY Times as I drifted off to sleep last night.

Takeaways:
💥 Women predominantly fulfil it
💥 Helps maintain family bonds and traditions
💥 Fosters family solidarity, identity, and well-being
💥 It contributes significantly to relationship quality and is a key to health, happiness, and longevity.

There is so much more to it, though, and I can't recommend this article enough - check out the full piece at or find 'The Constant Work to Keep a Family Connected Has a Name' in the NY Times.

It's always great to hear about the work of , and it was doubly great to learn that Barossa Valley's Schubert Estate had a winning show at Tasting South Australia at Foodex Japan.

Schubert Estate took top honours at the 2024 Sakura Women's Wine Awards, securing both the Double Gold and Diamond Trophy Awards for their 2017 Lone Goose Shiraz Viognier. The competition had over 4,000 submissions from 27 countries, with only 324 wines receiving the Double Gold Award and 61 attaining the coveted Diamond Trophy status. Schubert Estate was one of seven Australian wineries and the only one from the Barossa Valley to receive this accolade.

I got the opportunity to interview Matt Reynolds, Schubert Estate winemaker for , last year, and it's wonderful to hear about their success! Congratulations

Dr Lowitja O'Donoghue AC CBE DSG, has been farewelled in a state funeral in Adelaide today.

A member of the Stolen Generation, Dr O'Donoghue became the first Aboriginal nurse in South Australia. She founded the National Aboriginal Conference and played a key role in negotiating Native Title legislation. Dr O'Donoghue was made a member of the Order of Australia in 1977 and named Australian of the Year in 1984. Her legacy continues to live on through the non-profit Lowitja O'Donoghue Foundation.

On International Women's Day, I've been sitting in my house in Adelaide avoiding the heat and watching the coverage of Dr O'Donoghue's state funeral. It brought me to reflect on her remarkable work and about this year's IWD theme of 'Inspire Inclusion'. Dr. O'Donoghue's dedication to advocating for Indigenous rights and inclusion serves as a powerful example of the progress we can achieve. She will be remembered for dedicating her life to advancing Indigenous rights, health, and wellbeing. Donoghue was a formidable leader who embodied strength, determination, grace, and dignity. Her dedication to equality and empowerment should inspire us to take action and ensure that women from all backgrounds are included and valued.

May we inspire others, may we uplift women who know they can make a difference as she did.
Vale Lowitja O'Donoghue.

🔵 Effective website copy can transform "never heard of you before" visitors into fans, browsers into subscribers, and lurkers into clients.

🔵 Great website copy can improve visibility, generate leads, attract inquiries, grow your followers, and boost sales.

Right? Too rhymy?

Let me just get to today's tip.
𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆:
😄 Add some personality to your emails. Inject humour or showcase your brand's personality to make your content more memorable and relatable. Don't be afraid to show some character. It doesn't have to be a dad joke, use plain language or talk about the weather; just make it friendly and personable.

It's day eight, and it's all about being crystal clear with your clients and audience.

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗼-𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗖𝗧𝗔) 📣
Don't leave your audience guessing. Clearly state the next steps in your email—whether it's visiting a link, signing up, or engaging further with your content. Provide a clear call-to-action that prompts recipients to respond or engage further. This could be a simple instruction like "Reply to this email with your thoughts" or "Click here to join the conversation on our community forum."

It's day seven, and it's all about giving something to your email recipients.

🍫 In Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," when Charlie Bucket receives his golden ticket, he exclaims, "I've got it! I've got it!" This moment is incredibly special for Charlie, as he is filled with joy and excitement to finally have the opportunity to visit W***y Wonka's chocolate factory and fulfill one of his greatest dreams. Like Charlie, audiences respond well to excusive offers.

Although they are often used interchangeably, "e.g." and "i.e." have different meanings.
E.g. comes from the Latin phrase "example gratia," meaning "for the sake of example." It is used to provide examples of something already mentioned, similar to "such as" or "for example."
On the other hand, i.e. comes from "id est," meaning "that is." It is used to specify something that has been mentioned before, similar to "specifically" or "namely."

To prevent confusion between the two, remember that "e.g." means "for example," while "i.e." means "that is."

Many outdoor activities are popular in the region, e.g., hiking, camping, and fishing.
The museum showcases various forms of art, e.g., paintings, sculptures, and photographs.
The company offers various benefits to its employees, i.e., health insurance, retirement plans, and flexible working hours.
The hotel provides amenities for guests, i.e., a swimming pool, gym, and complimentary breakfast.

Welcome to day six of my tips and tricks for creating better emails. Today is all about you and your unique offering.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞:
👋 People connect with people. Add a personal touch to your emails by signing off with your name or your team members' names. It's a simple way to humanise your brand and build rapport.

𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭:
Instead of sending a one-size-fits-all email to your entire email list, use dynamic content blocks to customise certain parts of your email based on specific criteria. For example:
✂️Tailor product recommendations based on the recipient's past purchases or browsing history.
✂️ Customise the email greeting or introduction based on the recipient's demographic information or location.
✂️ Personalise the email content based on the recipient's engagement level with your brand (e.g., loyal customers vs. new subscribers).

𝐒𝐞𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Segment your email list into smaller, targeted groups based on common characteristics or behaviours. This allows you to send more relevant and personalised emails to each segment. For example:
🍊Segment subscribers based on their preferences or interests indicated during sign-up.
🍊Create segments based on the recipient's purchase history, such as frequent buyers or first-time customers.
🍊Segment your email list by geographic location or time zone to send localised or timely content.
By adding a few personal touches to your email marketing, you can achieve higher engagement and better outcomes.

ENCOURAGE ENGAGEMENT AND INTERACTION:
🗣️ 𝙒𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨? Invite your audience to share their thoughts or experiences. Questions are a powerful tool for fostering engagement and building community. In most industries, businesses incorporate strategies to spark conversations and engage with clients.
Using your subject line: Craft a subject line that encourages interaction. Ask a question or invite feedback, for example, "What's Your Biggest Challenge?" or "We Want to Hear From You!"

𝘼𝙨𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: Include open-ended questions to encourage recipients to share their thoughts or experiences. These questions should be relevant to your recipient's interests or pain points. For instance, "What are your top priorities when it comes to [relevant topic]?" or "How do you currently handle [specific challenge]?"
Personalisation: Tailor your questions or prompts to the recipient's specific situation or preferences. This could involve referencing past interactions or mentioning relevant details about the recipient's industry or role.

𝙁𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬-𝙐𝙥: Follow up on responses or engagement to continue the conversation and build rapport. This demonstrates attentiveness and a genuine interest in the recipient's input.

Overall, the goal is to create an environment where recipients feel valued and encouraged to participate actively, ultimately fostering engagement and building a sense of community around the brand or business.

I was very excited to be asked to contribute to a book for the University of Adelaide, my uni. For this 150th-anniversary book, Kate Holland and I took a trip down the University's memory lane to find inspiring stories of the people, places and things that made it what it is today. I can't wait to see the finished project later this year.

⏱️ Short on time? Chances are your prospective clients are, too.

𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: Acknowledge your mutual time constraints, highlighting the importance of efficiency.
𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲: Show you understand and empathise with your recipient's busy schedule and foster a connection based on shared experiences.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠: Address the common issue facing most clients of your industry and suggest a solution-oriented approach.
Position yourself as a solution provider by combining elements and offering benefits that vary based on your goals, audience, and email content.
