SERIOUS CRASH INVOLVING SEVERAL CARS AND A TRUCK

Police and emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash at Glen Osmond.

Just before 3.45pm today Sunday 24 July, patrols were called to the intersection of Glen Osmond and Portrush Road at the bottom of the South Eastern Freeway after reports a truck had collided with several vehicles.

Road restrictions are in place which is affecting Cross Road, Portrush Road and Glen Osmond Road.

Please avoid the area.

STOLEN CAR CAUSES GAS LEAK AT HACKAM

A stolen car crashed into a gas main causing a leak at Hackham this evening.

The silver Mitsubishi Outlander crashed into a fence and then a gas main in Cottage Lane, Hackham just after 5.30pm on Wednesday 20 July, The driver ran off.

The Outlander had just been stolen from the driveway of a nearby address on Main South Road, Hackham.

The fleeing driver is described as a man aged in his late 20s or early 30s, about 183cm tall, with dark shoulder length hair and wearing a grey and black jumper and dark pants.

The resulting gas leak caused the road to be closed for several hours while crews dug up the road surface to isolate the leak.

There were no reported injuries.

FOUR INJURED IN ONKAPARINGA HILLS CRASH

Four people have been taken to hospital after a Holden Commodore slammed into a tree and burst into flames following a suspected street race at Onkaparinga Hills.

Police say the station wagon left Piggott Range Road and hit the tree around 9pm - the four occupants escaped before fire engulfed the front of the car.

The 18-year-old Noarlunga Downs woman behind the wheel, and three passengers - a 14-year-old Noarlunga Downs boy, a 22-year-old Oaklands Park man, and a 50 year-old Port Noarlunga man - were taken to the Flinders Medical Centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations are ongoing but police believe the car was street racing with a second vehicle, possibly a Ford sedan.

POTENTIAL DAMAGING WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN

The South Australian State Emergency Service is at a heightened level of preparedness following forecasts of potentially damaging winds and heavy showers along the state’s southern coastal areas from late Saturday afternoon before reaching Adelaide in the late evening and also throughout Sunday.

Rainfall may be briefly heavy at times from Friday to Sunday, with expected totals of 10-30mm over southern districts, reaching 30-60mm for parts of the Mount Lofty Ranges and lower south east with isolated falls of up to 60-80mm about the Mount Lofty Ranges which may include small hail.

High flows are entering SA along the Diamantina River and a Flood Warning remains in place.

The SASES advises the following:
• Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
• Secure or put away loose items around your property
• Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe
• Monitor the local conditions by tuning into your local ABC radio or checking the SASES or Bureau of Meteorology websites.
• Conditions can also be monitored by following the SASES on social media (Facebook or Twitter).

Damaging winds across western SA will spread east this afternoon and overnight.

Weather Situation: A cold front moving across western SA will strengthen during this afternoon and evening. The front will continue to track east, reaching Adelaide later this evening.
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are occurring over the West Coast and southern parts of the North West Pastoral districts.

Damaging wind gusts developing with showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon.
Weather Situation: A cold front moving across southern WA this evening will strengthen on Sunday morning as it moves into western parts of the state. The front will continue to track east, reaching Adelaide during Sunday evening.

Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WINDS GUSTS in excess of 90 km/h with showers and thunderstorms are likely over the West Coast and southern parts of the North West Pastoral districts from Sunday afternoon.

HOUSE FIRE AT MORPHETT VALE

Just after 7pm Today (May 8th 2022) Metropolitan Fire Service crews were responded to a house fire on Elizabeth Road Morphett Vale.

On arrival crews found an abandoned house well alight and upgraded the alarm adding South Australian Country Fire Service Crews to assist with suppressing the fire. Crews have brought the well involved house fire under control however are being cautious due to risk of roof collapse.

Fire Investigators have been requested to attend the scene. South Australian Police are also on scene assisting with blocking the road and investigation. At this stage the cause of the fire is unknown.

Around 10.30am on the 27th November emergency services were called to Murrays Hill Road near Lyric Place after reports of a collision between a truck and a cyclist.

FATAL CRASH AT ALDINGA

A man has died following a fatal crash at Aldinga this morning.

Around 7.30am on Sunday 21st November, South Australian Police and Emergency services were called to Port Road at Aldinga, after a car accident which police say had slammed into a tree and caught fire.

The driver and sole occupant, a 68-year-old local man, died at the scene.

Major Crash officers attended the scene and are investigating the cause of the collision.

The man’s death is the 90th life lost on South Australian roads this year compared to 79 at the same time last year.

DRIVER ARRESTED FOLLOWING CRASH AT CLARENDON

A drink driver was tracked down by police last night after allegedly driving off after a crash at Clarendon.

Police were called around 12am on Saturday the 16th of October by a driver who had just been involved in a crash on Grants Gully Road, Clarendon. The other driver of the silver Holden sedan had driven off. The caller had followed the Holden and saw it collide with another vehicle.

Patrols attended and located the Holden at the intersection of Grants Gully Road and Chandlers Hill Road. The driver was asleep in the car and police removed the suspect from the vehicle.

The 42-year-old Dover Gardens man recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.250.

He was arrested and charged with drink driving, two counts of failing to stop at the scene of a crash and failing to provide details and drive without due care and will be bailed when sober.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident.

A 15-year-old boy is being treated for minor burns after a fire destroyed a home at West Lakes. Firefighters were called to the home at around 1:30am after multiple calls were made to authorities.

Police say it appears that a brush fence running down the side of the property was deliberately set alight, which led to the fire spreading to the rest of the house.

Neighbours and local businesses are being asked to review any CCTV they may have. Anyone who has knowledge of any suspicious activity in the area is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

FIRE IN PROSPECT

Police are investigating a restaurant fire at Prospect this morning.

Just after 4.30am Thursday 16 September emergency services were called to Prospect Road after reports a building was on fire.

When emergency services arrived the building was fully ablaze, fire fighters immediately got to work trying to bring the intense fire under control and protect nearby buildings. Within about an hour MFS got control of the fire, however the restaurant has been completely destroyed.

Fire Cause Investigators will be attending the scene this morning to attempt to determine what lead to the blaze.

UPDATE: PRINCESS HIGHWAY CRASH

Major Crash officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in the states south east last night.

At 10pm on Friday 30 July, emergency services were called to Princes Highway at Furner after reports of a crash involving a Toyota Corolla sedan and a prime mover.

Sadly, the driver of the sedan, a 19-year-old man from Craigmore died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 49-year-old woman from Victoria, was taken to the local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Traffic restrictions are still in place on Princes Highway, the road is expected to reopen about 8.30am this morning.

The man’s death is the 62nd life lost on SA roads this year, compared to 56 at the same time last year.

POLICE ARREST DRIVER INVOLVED IN HIT-RUN CRASH AT MORPHETT VALE

Following an appeal, police have arrested the driver involved in a fatal hit-run crash at Morphett Vale on Tuesday night.

Just before 9am this morning (Friday 23 July), Michael Henley attended Christies Beach Police Station where detectives from Southern District CIB and investigators from Major Crash, arrested him.

He is expected to be charged with manslaughter, cause death by dangerous driving, fail to stop at the scene of a crash and fail to comply with the Emergency Management Act.

He will be refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday 26 July.

SA Metropolitan Fire Service and SA Country Fire Service crews responded to a structure fire on Coe Court at Christie Downs overnight.

Firefighters were alerted just before 10:30pm and arrived to find the house fully involved in fire.
There were no occupants home at the time of the fire.

Five MFS appliances and twenty six firefighters and one CFS appliance attended the scene and using breathing apparatus and three high pressure lines took thirty minutes to bring the fire under control, and protecting the other nearby houses from fire spreading.

Fire Cause Investigators attended the scene and have determined that a candle was left burning unattended within the home.

Damage is estimated at $250,000 and asbestos is present within the home.

The rider, a 66-year-old man from Mitchell Park was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but sadly passed away.

FATAL HIT AND RUN AT MORPHETT VALE

Police are investigating a fatal hit-run crash at Morphett Vale last night.

Emergency services responded to reports of a collision on Flaxmill Road, Morphett Vale about 9.50pm on Tuesday 20 July.

A silver Ford sedan collided with a white Toyota Hilux and as a result the passenger in the Toyota, a 20-year-old man from Sellicks Beach, died at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old man from Morphett Vale, was taken to Flinders Medical Centre where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Ford failed to stop at the scene and was later located burnt out in a gully off the Southern Expressway at Reynella.

Flaxmill Road was closed to all traffic for about eight hours while Major Crash officers investigated the cause of the collision however the road has since reopened.

Police are asking anyone who saw the Ford or Toyota travelling on Flaxmill Road prior to the crash or anyone who may have dashcam, phone or CCTV footage to please provide their details to police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au

Bridgewater CFS seeks your help to find the persons responsible for significantly vandalising our new electronic sign this morning.

It is heartbreaking to see this happen to this equipment.This sign was installed as a community asset to warn the public in times of emergency & to promote fire safety messages etc

It was not the wind, as fixtures were snapped.

This occured today July 18th between 07:50 - 09:58 in the morning. Someone must have seen something? Please look at your dashcams for any footage.

FATAL CRASH ON THE EYRE PENINSULA

Sadly a boy has died following a fatal crash on the Eyre Peninsula yesterday afternoon.

At 4pm on Thursday 15 July, police were called to Pygery-Port Kenny Road at Port Kenny after reports of a single vehicle roll over.

An 8-year-old boy seated in the rear of the Toyota RAV4 sadly died at the scene.

A 15-year old boy also seated in the rear sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Streaky Bay hospital.

The driver, a 46-year-old woman and the front seat passenger a 47-year-old man both from Fulham Gardens received minor injuries .

Pygery-Port Kenny Road was closed between Mount Damper Road and Poochera-Port Kenny Road while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene. The road has since reopened.

The boys’ death is the 56th life lost on SA roads compared with 50 at the same time last year.

MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING NORTHERN SUBURBS PURSUIT

A man has been arrested following a pursuit through the western and northern suburbs overnight.

Just after midnight on Thursday 8 July, police spotted a black Holden sedan on Frederick Road at Seaton which was flagged as stolen. The car had been stolen during a break-in at St Clair on 27 June.

Police directed the driver to stop however he refused and the car was pursued as it headed north and turned into Glenburnie Street. It was pursued through backstreets before being lost around West Lakes Boulevard.

PolAir was deployed to assist with the search and patrols spotted it again heading north on Tapleys Hill Road about 30 minutes later.

The Holden was tracked by PolAir along Cheltenham Parade, Port Road and on to Grand Junction Road to head east. The stolen car continued to head to the northern suburbs via Port Wakefield Road and on to Martins Road. Patrols successfully spiked the cars tyres on Shepherdson Road.

The driver abandoned the stolen car in Alwyn Street a short time later and fled on foot however Police Dog Operations with PD Stoic were quick to arrest the man nearby.

Police will allege the driver stole petrol from a service station at David Terrace, Woodville Park during the incident.

A 29-year-old man from Maylands was charged with failing to stop for police, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving disqualified, breach of bail and a petrol theft. He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

Police are investigating a house fire at Edwardstown.

Police and fire crews responded to reports of a fire at Maxwell Avenue at 8.30pm on Sunday 4 July.

Fire crews managed to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring premises and extinguished the blaze, however, it caused significant damage to the property.

There were no reported injuries.
