The Switch - from the Zaluki shoe range
Footwear can make such a statement – drop a 👟 in the comments if you agree!
Umhlanga’s Sue Miles has a healthy obsession with stylish and comfortable shoes, so when she was left frustrated with what was available, she started designing her own range of shoes.
As a creative thinker, Sue thrives on being busy. When Covid struck, Sue pondered the prospect of delving into the shoe industry and the more she thought about it and researched her plans, the more excited she became.
“I canvassed family and friends and did some market research. I knew no-one in the leather or footwear industries; but several people were incredibly generous, sharing their time, knowledge and experience with me. So, I followed my gut and took the proverbial deep-end plunge!”
From her drawing board where she visualizes and sketches, with comfort in mind, to boutique stores and the online platform where she showcases her entire Zaluki Handmade shoe range, Sue and her equally dedicated little team work together every step of the way to create gorgeous footwear for women who long to make a statement that’s effortless, uncomplicated and unique to them.
Read Sue’s full story and discover her gorgeous range of footwear for women on our website (link in bio).
You're invited to the launch of Christina Foxwell's new book The Glass Angel: A guide to freedom, transformation and peace.
Yesterday morning we took a trip deep into rural Hillcrest with Co-ordinator of Hearts in Hands Foodbank Austin Maree and Connective Consulting’s Kim Griffith Jones, who is assisting as Project Manager, to visit the Isibukosezwe Creche Hearts in Hands are busy uplifting, and officially hand over the R13 000 raised thanks to generous sponsors and the incredible support from guests at our Get It Spring Fling hosted last month.
The crèche, which caters for more than 40 young children, is based in Mhlombe in the Embo Valley, and falls under the Hearts in Hands Foodbank ‘Building Hope’ project, through which they are dedicating time and effort to refurbishing the facility by means of installing retaining walls, structural improvements and installing a playground area to help these children build both gross and fine motor skills, along with core strength. The non-profit, charitable organisation also distributes toiletries, perishable and non-perishable food items to the crèche along with a number of other special projects they support each month including Asivuke Soup Kitchen they refurbed and uplifted last year which feeds over 100 children from the community every week.
We would like to extend our thanks to our event prize sponsors, as well as to those who attended our event and so generously donated towards our fundraising efforts for this cause. There is still so much to be done (sanding, plastering, painting, fitting the ceiling, electrical, plumbing, carpeting, proper sleeping facilities that are needed) and we are definitely going to be lending our hands to help too.
If you would like to make a difference by supporting the Hearts in Hands Foodbank ‘Building Hope’ drive, you can get in touch with Founder, Tracy Klokie on [email protected] or Kim on [email protected] for a detailed project plan and more info. Every little bit counts to making an impact for these little ones!

Dinner’s in the bag
We’re huge fans of Nando’s when we’re in the mood for takeout, but what we love even more is that we can DIY our own meals at home using their mouth-watering sauces and Bag & Bake range that are available at our favourite local grocery shops.
While many of you might be familiar with their bottled sauces, we’ve more recently discovered their Bag & Bake range (boasting Lemon & Herb, Medium, Hot, Garlic and two spicy new flavours) that give an effortless and unique flavour to any home cooked meal in just 30 minutes.
Honing in on the brand’s Afro-Portuguese fusion, the two new flavours – Paprika Citrino and Smokey Churrasco – transform chicken, fish and veggie meals into marvellous dishes packed with delicious flavours. The Paprika Citrino is sweet, smokey and infused with a cheeky, zesty lime twist and mild peri-peri, while the Smokey Churrasco is a savoury, oak-smoked umami flavour, perfectly balanced by subtle sweetness and a gentle kick of medium peri-peri.
You’ll find them at your local shops for around R24.99 each. Here’s to Putting the power of peri-peri cooking into your hands.
