The Grade Seven educator and the convenor of debating at Westville Senior Primary, Cheryl Franks, said that Luyanda Ndwandwe initially comes across as a shy and reserved learner, but when she steps into the debating room, she transforms into a commanding force with tenacious and dynamic words.
“Her ability to captivate and persuade an audience is nothing short of remarkable.”
Luyanda’s triumph was evident during the Inter-school Debating League in July where her team emerged victorious against Glenwood Preparatory, and Luyanda was awarded Best Speaker of the Day for her outstanding performance.
“Her dedication continued when she participated in the Durban Pinetown District Circuit Debating League at VK Naik School the following day as she led her team to victory in the first round of debates, once again, and earned the award for Best Speaker of the Day yet again. In the semi-finals held at Westville Girls’ High School, Luyanda’s debating team achieved the highest score of the day and went on to secure first place, thereby winning the competition,” said the proud educator.
