Three local pioneers of the hit educational television series “Reading Rainbows” – which aired on PBS and later on PBS Kids from 1983 to 2006 – wrote a book titled “Creating Reading Rainbow: The Untold Story of a Beloved Children’s Series,” that is now available for purchase both online and at local book stores.

An annual summer favorite will be returning to the Village of Williamsville this weekend.
The Glen Park Art Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, along Glen Avenue between Rock and Mill streets. Glen Avenue will be closed from Mill Street to North Cayuga Road.

**UPDATE**

A full closure on the portion of Evans Street between Belmont Place and Eagle Street in the Village of Williamsville will begin Monday, July 8.

A detour will be in place at Sheridan Dr and Main St directing motorists to utilize Youngs Rd.

The closure will be between the hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with an estimated completion date of July 19. The road will be open to local traffic and emergency services. The closure is for the purpose of construction of utilities for the proposed Blocher Home Apartments.

A jury found Andee R. Wright, 32, of Amherst guilty of one count of murder in the second degree. Jurors rendered their decision on June 18 after approximately two hours of deliberation following a six-day trial, convicting the defendant of one of two counts of murder in the indictment.

Lisa A. Noble, 44, also known as Lisa Prynn, formerly of Williamsville, pleaded guilty June 18 before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to all 11 counts in the indictment: Four counts of grand larceny in the second degree, three counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, one count of grand larceny in the third degree, three counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.

Alexa Friedman, of Clarence, is running for the title of Miss New York USA. The competition will be held from Friday, June 28, to Sunday, June 30, in Albany. Friedman, who graduated from Buffalo Seminary, hopes to win the title so that she can use the Miss New York USA platform to raise awareness about drug abuse. Her parents Becky and Dan Friedman own Fireplace Outlet on Main Street in Williamsville.

The Town of Amherst Veterans Committee reminds community members that applications for the 2024 Veterans Memorial dedication ceremony will be accepted until Friday, July 5. The memorial, located at 390 Mill St. in Amherst State Park, honors Town of Amherst veterans, living or deceased, who have served in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard, during any time period.
